Update September 21, 2018: After receiving many supportive comments on my Copycats? post regarding design inspiration versus copying, I am ready to share this pattern again. Happy crocheting!!
* * * * *
I continue to crochet critters using my Blue Bunny pattern as a prototype. This time I've altered the pattern to make a bear. I made him a bit chubbier with slightly longer arms. He has a little round tail and his ears are totally different of course. Meet Boo Bear. He was happy to pose for photos last night before the sunlight faded. Isn't he a cute little bear?
Boo Bear is a shy little bear. I think it would be good for him to have some playmates so I plan to make more in a rainbow of colours. As always, I'll be sure to share photos as my bear clan grows.
I've included the free pattern for Boo Bear below in case you would like to make one too.

Hood
Use dark grey yarn and follow pattern for Head up to Row 24. Check to make sure hood fits head as and adjust tension based on fit. You may have to move up a hook size if the hood is too tight.

Finish off and cut yarn leaving a long tail for joining. Position on head as shown in photos above. After attaching head to body, I like to wrap the tail from the hood around the neck to cover joining stitches.
Ears (x2)
Use dark grey yarn.
R1 - 6 sc (6)
R2 - inc x6 (12)
R3 - (sc inc) x6 (18)
R4 - (2 sc inc) x6 (24)
R5-8 - sc around (24)
Finish off leaving 8" tail for joining.
Fold ear in half to form a natural curve and attach to head (see photo above).
Tail
Use dark grey yarn.
R1 - 6 sc (6)
R2 - inc x6 (12)
R3-4 - sc around (12)
Finish off leaving 6" tail for joining.
I just stuffed starting yarn end into tail but so it is only lightly stuffed then attached to form a neat little ball on his backside (see photo above).
Refer to photos of Boo Bear before joining ears, head, arms and tail. I like to pin the pieces in place to pick the most pleasing look before attaching.

hi just to let you know i think the pattern for boo bear needs looking at ( i could be wrong)
ReplyDeleterow 25 of legs/body i think the +4sc should be +7 otherwise you get 53 stitches not 56
great pattern though
The count changes slightly every time I make this. As long as you approximate the increases and decreases evenly on both sides and get the basic shape with an opening to fit the neck, it'll look great. Thanks so much for the feedback. I'm happy to know somebody is giving it a go. Send me a photo when you're done. I'd love to see it.
DeleteHow do i send you a photo?
DeleteSend me your photo via email to orphanme@yahoo.com - I can't wait to see it.
DeleteHola gracias por el patrón ,intentaré hacerlo y te muestro.un gran abrazo .
DeleteDisculoa tu tienes El patron, porque apenas lo vi pero ya lo quitaron dejaron solo la foto !!
Deleteps im not sure if there are any other sight miss calculations as i have only just started this pattern.
ReplyDeletejust thought i would let you know
I"m making another in chunky yarn and the counts are a little different than the first one I made. I think it depends where the legs join and the starting body count. Like I mentioned above, as long as you're getting the right shape, it'll look great.
DeleteI wanted to let you know I checked the math on those few rows in the body and made corrections. You were right, it didn't add up. Thanks again for the feedback. I'm still very new to pattern writing. It's nice to know somebody is trying it.
Deleteok then cheers and i will do, this is the first time for me trying to adapt as i go along as im not as clever as you lol.
ReplyDeleteive written out most the the lalylala insipation dolls that you have done and cant wait to do them.
boo bunny came out good and slightly taller but i think thats because i used dk wool lol
i was just wondering do you have any other tips for these sweet dolls apart from the inc and dec part for example
ReplyDeleteI use invisible decreases and crochet very tightly. I am currently using a 3.25 mm hook with chunky yarn for this bear. For the arms I don't usually count rows, just keep going until they look long enough then make the 2nd the same length. I keep the body increases and decreases near the hips in roughly the same spot without really counting. I make sure the hood is tight on the head and squish everything to make a pleasing shape. Sew the head on before adding the ears and face. I hope that helps. Enjoy.
DeleteAnd I use pins to figure out where to place the eyes.
Deletethanks for the tips and i will send pics once ive completed them lol.
Deletethanks for the free patterns ill keep checking back to see if you have any new ones. ive written down the bunny, the bear, the kitty and the lamb. just got to write out the piglet and frog ( which ill be doing next :) )
If you copy the text for the pattern and paste it into MS Word or some other application, you can print it out. I use the printed copy to check off my rows.
Deletethe other rows that i adapted were rows 27, 28, and 38
ReplyDeleteMade changes to make the math work for these rows. Thanks.
Deletethats ok glad i could help lol i would print them out but got no ink im currently writting out the piglet pattern and have made some changes as the math dont work out lol just to let u know

I love the lalylala dolls and was looking for a free pattern eventually if I can't find it free I will purchase the pattern but after reading this I'm not as enthusiastic about making her. So sad .
ReplyDeleteYes, too bad she was so protective of her creations. Still I admire her work. My email is orphanme@yahoo.com Send me a message if you would like some help with this pattern.
DeleteWhy can't I see your pattern?

As stated at the top of the post, it has been removed. Read 'copycats' post for full explanation.
ReplyDeleteQuel dommage de ne plus pouvoir voir le tuto , j'aurais moi aussi bien tenté ce doudou :( :(
ReplyDeleteI wonder if they contacted this person and complained to them too? http://www.zabbez.com/. I think that if you have five or more differences in a pattern or thing,(check your local patent office) it is your pattern not theirs and can copyright it for yourself.
ReplyDeleteI love the zabbez flower dolls too. He is very talented with his creations. Thanks.
DeleteI am not worried about legal rights since this is a hobby for fun; not profit. I did share another pattern recently (altered for chunky yarn) called Buster Bear if you would like to try that one.

(Sc inc + 2 sc) x6. It is a total 30 stiches but I have juste 20 stiches with 6 inc between row 27 (61) and row 28 (67). Could you help me?
Thank you 💕 ever so much for this wonderful pattern. I am a grandmother to be of my youngest & only son, his beautiful wife is expecting and all she requested was for a gift as this... I became very disheartened when I realized that I could absolutely not afford to buy this product or pattern! Covid has reduced many, including me, to survival mode. After a search of 3 months on patterns, crochet sites I had finally stumbled on your bear pattern.Thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart. I will send a picture of the finished product.xx
ReplyDeleteHello! I am not certain why a lot of people had problems with your pattern. I made it boo bear in one day with no issues at all. Love the bear and will make a great gift for my grandson!
