Creative Friday: Holiday Planner

I confess:
I. am. a. planner.

It is not even Halloween yet, I have been thinking about Thanksgiving and Christmas for several weeks already. With so many festivities between Halloween and New Year’s Eve I feel the need to create a fun & cute place to write down my family’s plans for the holidays. Somehow jotting notes on the junk mail envelope just doesn’t work anymore.

Enter the Holiday Planner. A simple binder OR album (size is your choice) with page protectors.

I used the following MW Products to complete the planner:
Basic Grey: Theme Set – Jovial (BG123)
Basic Grey: 6x6 Paper Pad – Jovial (BG122)
Basic Grey: Chip Sticker Shapes – Jovial (BG130)
Basic Grey: Pops – Jovial (BG133)
Cosmo Cricket: Tiny Type - Black (CC010)
Cosmo Cricket: Tiny Type - Red (CC090)
Ranger: Accents – Glossy (RA043)
Fiskars: Border Punch – Threading Water (FK001)
Ranger: Stickles – Crystal (RA039)

Other items:
2 Inch Black Binder with pocket covers
Black Ink
Paper and binder clips
Ribbon

To begin, cut the chosen pattern paper to fit inside the front and back covers of the binder. This measurement will be determined on the type of binder you choose. Ink edges and decorate with Glossy accents, Chip Sticker Shapes and Stickles.

Cut paper to fit into the spine pocket of the binder. Decorate as desired and slip into pocket.

Choose what you need to keep track of for the holidays and create titled section pages. For mine I created one for gift giving, home decor and food menus.

I created pockets with coordinating paper on the back of the sections. Using the threading Water Punch I created a fun border to hold receipts and notes.

As I use this planner I may need more categories- and with this binder it will be easy to add and modify the sections. Insert coordinating paper in other page protectors to carry the color scheme through the binder.

For actual pages to compose my lists and ideas I plan to use the free printables from this website - there are lots of ideas for what to include in your planner at this site. I just had to make mine with great supplies you know! Remember to not go overboard- this is help you enjoy the holidays not stress over them :)

This is a quick and simple project- the idea can be used for planning other events (wedding, baby showers, etc). You may find this project may make a great gift too!

Creative Friday: Let's Get Spooky!

With Halloween only nine days away, let's create a fun home decor item for your house - haunted or not! MemoryWorks now has the Tim Holtz Seasonal Masks (TH018) and Tim Holtz Seasonal Salvage Stickers (TH016) in stock - just in time to make some fun holiday creations!

I created this fun door hanger using the "witch" mask from the Tim Holtz Seasonal Masks (TH018):

Supplies used:
  • We R MemoryKeepers Corner Chomper
  • Ink Blending Tool (RA012)
  • Tim Holtz Seasonal Salvage Stickers (TH-016)
  • Tim Holtz Seasons Mask (TH018)
  • Perfect Pearls Mist in Kiwi (RA049)
  • Distress Ink in Black Soot (RA011)
  • Stickles in Black Diamond (RA041) and Crystal (RA039)
  • Glossy Accents (RA043)
  • Non-stick Craft Mat (RA001)
  • Tattered Angels Heidi Swapp Crepe Paper Ribbon (Spring/Summer 2010 MW Catalog)
  • Tattered Angels Heidi Swapp Clear Stamp - Rockin' Renaissance set: "Book Print" stamp
  • Green polka dot ribbon
  • White tag
  • American Crafts Thickers, October Afternoon Mini Market Stickers in Black & Cream
  • Plain Chipboard (I used a thin scrap piece from 12x12 paper pad backing)
  • Circle Cutter (I used my Coluzzle, but the We R Memory Keepers Magnetic Circle Cutter (WR014) would work great!)
  • Art Knife WR017 (to cut chipboard to size)
Directions:
1.  Cut chipboard to desired size, use Corner Chomper to round corners. Cut circular hole for door knob in chipboard.

2.  Place witch mask (sticky side down) on chipboard, then use Ink Blending tool with Black Soot Distress Ink to ink around witch. Be sure to get ink in all the little spaces around the mask. Ink edges of chipboard piece. Stamp "Book Prink stamp" on white tag, ink edges.

3.  With project on non-stick craft mat, spray Perfect Pearls Mist in Kiwi (with witch mask still ink place) over project. Spray strips of crepe ribbon and white tag, as well. Let dry. Remove mask.

4. Add sticker letters for phrase. Add stickles and/or Glossy Accents to letters, as desired. Apply vintage witch sticker to white tag. Embellish with Crystal Stickles.

5. Accordian fold two strips of crepe ribbon, then adhere in a circle. Apply adhesive around door knob hole on chipboard piece, then adhere the crepe ribbon circle to the project. Add white tag with green polka-dot ribbon, tied in a knot.

October Guest Designer Thriller!

Our October guest designer, Rosann Santos-Elliot, has been busy creating lots of wonderful projects with this month's Express Kit "Thriller"!
Have a look:

"I love halloween so I had a lot of fun with this kit."

"The mini book is made up exclusively from the small paper bags. I called it Vintage Halloween b/c the pictures in it are all from my childhood Halloweens. As a child I was almost always a witch. As I got older, I tried to get a little more creative but the witch costumes are classic."

"I created tags from the kraft die cuts included with the kit. Some tags have other pics on them, other tags have journaling. I even used a few brads from the crate paper line. The orange and green were perfect for Halloween."

"Since Halloween is on a weekend, I am thinking Halloween parties will be going on all around town. I painted the card black and adhered the kit's orange ribbon to the bag. One side just has a guest's name. The other side is decorated and ready for trick or treating or collection of the pinata candy. I used the kraft paper die cuts to decorate the bag. I even embossed the bats. Using an embossing pen I drew a spider web freehand and embossed the web. You can also paint the bag completely white, adhere black ribbon, add some black eyes and a black mouth and BOO, you have a ghost place card bag."
"The layout and and card were quick and easy and basic. "

"The flowers were spritzed with mist and I used a black and white brad from the LUSH collection."
