Creative Friday: Summer Fun Top 10

Today, I'm issuing a challenge! Your challenge...to scrapbook about summer before it's over! Before the hustle and bustle of the new school year, the busy Fall, and then...(gasp!)...the Holidays!

A couple days ago I asked my kids to sit down together and come up with their "Summer Fun Top 10 from 2010"...a list of their top 10 favorite things we did this summer. From the "big" things like trips, to the "small" things like popcicles. Here's their list:

My task for this little project was to create a mini-album to showcase their list. I decided to create a "star" album - but, made it summer-style...to look like a beach ball in shape and colors.

Here's directions to create your own:

1.  Print or crop 10 3"x4" or smaller photos to go along with your top 10 list.

2.  Cut 10 6.5" x 4.25" rectangles out of three colors cardstock. I used red, yellow, and blue for a beach ball look.
3.  Score each of the rectangles in the middle (creating 10 3.25" x 4.25" cards
4.  Adhere the cards back-to-back on the edges only using a permanent, strong adhesive. The American Crafts wide double-sided tape works well. See photos below:

5.  Use Corner Chomper to round the outer corners of all the pages.
6.  Cut apart Fancy Pants Rusty Sun Journaling Cards and adhere one to each page of your album. Adhere strip of ribbon under journaling cards on front and back cover to create tie-closure for album.
7.  Decorate album pages, as desired, add photos, and add numbers for your Top 10 list. I used numbers from the My Mind's Eye Chipboard Alpha Stickers in Red and for the list items I used Cosmo Cricket Tiny Type in Red and Blue. I used Doodlebug alphabet stickers for the title on the front cover. I also added some Creative Cafe buttons throughout, for some added dimension. Here's the pages of my album....

See more pages from the album on the Memory-Works Idea Gallery on the main website.

Thanks for looking! And, I'd love to see what you create! Feel free to post a link to your album in the comments section!

Happy Scrappin'!

Product Wednesday - Spiral Flowers

You can never have too many flowers right? Well, I love all types and for scrapooking of course, there are so many ways to create flowers with paper we receive from MemoryWorks. I look forward to my MemoryWorks Express Kit each month so I can see what is there to help me create new projects!

I saw a segment on Teresa Collins blog regarding spiral flowers and fell in love with them, so I thought I would attempt to make them and share with you how to make your own!

Here are the instructions:

First I cut a 4 inch square and then rounded the edges from pattern paper. The circle shape does not have to be perfect. Just know that no two flowers will be the same and be one of a kind. I prefer using two-sided paper to get a colorful flower!
I then start at the circle edge and cut the flower in a spiral shape. There is NO right or wrong way. I know that for me I like to make a wavey shape as I go around the circle toward the center. It doesn’t have to be perfectly round or perfect edges. Remember it is your flower!
Start rolling the outside edge and roll tightly toward the center of the flower.
Let go of the flower and work the layers a bit. You can work the layers together so you get the right shape and size that you want. I also turn it over and kind of smash it a bit to get the edges to curl over the top. Put a bit of glue on the end of the flower to keep it from unraveling. Then using your favorite adhesive (I use liquid) you can put your flower on your projects.
The finished flower! I used a few embellishments that came with one of my MemoryWorks kits. Of course I added some Stickles for a little sparkle and came up with this Thank You card.
Have fun with these flowers... create your own garden today, with MemoryWorks products!

Happy Monday!!!

It's so hard to believe it's the last week of July - where has this summer gone?  I hope you've gotten to spend some time creating.

Here are just a few things that I have created using the July MW Express Kit:

I added Stickles to the flowers on these two layouts to give them a little bling.

This is a gift card holder created with a toilet paper holder.  Simply flatten the toilet paper holder and cover with your favorite patterned paper.  Then you can adhere a piece of ribbon all the way around the holder so you can tie it closed (you can also put the ribbon under your paper if you'd rather hide it).  Then embellish to your heart's desire!
I hope you have found some inspiration with us this month.  Be sure to follow the blog all week for some great projects and a sneek peek of the August MW Express Kit!

Happy Scrapping!

Product Wednesday - "Find the Travel Objects" Chipboard Book

Whether you are having a “Staycation” or an on the road “Vacation” we all need something to do while on our travels. Do you remember the “Where’s Waldo” books where there was so many things on a page and then there was a list of things to find on those pages? That is where I got my inspiration. I thought how fun it would be to have a book of objects for a child (big or little) to find while on their trip.

Trains, Planes and Automobiles.....

First I purchased a mini book from MemoryWorks (4x6 Book Kit). There are 8 chipboard pages to complete.

I covered each page with paper from the my recent June and July MemoryWorks Express Kits.

I added embellishments once I decided on what items I wanted to look for on my travels.

I created a pocket on the last page to keep scorecards/notecards so that you can keep track of the objects that you find. There are so many variables and it will depend on where you are going (or staying) as to what you want to put in your book. I even ran it past my grandkids to see if they would have fun with a book like this... they approved! Have fun making your “Find Travel Objects Chipboard Book".

MemoryWorks has an incredible assortment of fantastic papers, embellishments, and tools to create your book today! Not to mention each month the MemoryWorks Express Kit arrives at my door with coordinating papers, embellishments, etc. to create projects like this. There are endless possibilities you can create with MemoryWorks.

Keep on scrappin!

July MW Express Kit - Round III

Well, here we are three weeks into July already.  Have you come up with some great projects for your MW Express Kit for this month?  Well, just in case you still need some inspiration here are some great projects from our Guest Designer, Kelly Holbrook!

Here's a note from Kelly about her projects:
I love texture and dimension on my projects, so you'll see I use a lot of dimensional/foam tape, and I tend to 'junk-up' a lot of my edges.

I scrap 8.5x11, so when I get a 12x12 diecut...I usually trim of the decorative edges and use them on my pages, I like them better as page elements anyway.

On the 'Thank-You' card, and the 'Who needs the Beach?' page, I layered some of the flowers from the kit with punched out circles outlined with stickles and dimensional tape.
When I was arranging the elements on my 'fast getaway' page, the tag strings fell into a heart shape...I kind of liked it so I used some glossy accents to secure it there.
I scored and folded the background paper I used on the 'Thank-You" card, then sanded and inked the creases with walnut stain...then flattened it back out and secured it to the card. It was fun, and it just gave it a little something extra...
Also on the 'Thank-You'card, I hand-drew the leaves on the green cardstock from the kit and cut them out.

My altered project is a 2.5 inch binder that I purchased from Wal-mart. (I'm sure any office supply store has them.) I have 4 kids that I do albums for every year of their life...so this just helps me keep it a little bit more affordable, albums can be pricey. Plus, I can personalize it just a little bit more.

Thanks so much to Kelly for sharing her fantastic creations with us this month.  I hope you got some great ideas - I know I sure did!
