Report
Science is the invention and technologies of China while Chinese art encompasses of fine art, folk arts and performance arts. This includes calligraphy, opera, Chinese music and paper cutting.
Chinese also invent the four great inventions which are compass, gunpowder, papermaking and printing. These inventions have helped many people.
The invention of gunpowder by the 10th century led to an array of inventions such as the fire lance, land mine, naval mine, hand cannon, exploding cannonballs, multistage rocket, and rocket bombs with aerodynamic wings and explosive payloads.
With the navigational aid of the 11th-century compass and ability to steer at high sea with the 1st-century sternpost rudder, ancient Chinese sailors sailed as far as East Africa and Egypt.
The contemporaneous Peiligang and Pengtoushan cultures represent the oldest Neolithic cultures of China and were formed around 7000 BC. Some of the first inventions of Neolithic, prehistoric China include semi lunar and rectangular stone knives, stone hoes and spades, the building of rammed earth structures with lime-plastered house floors, the creation of the potter's wheel, the creation of pottery with cord-mat-basket designs, the creation of pottery tripods and pottery steamers, and the development of ceremonial vessels and scapulimancy for purposes of divination.
Chinese calligraphy is an Oriental art. It is very much like painting. It uses Chinese characters to communicate the spiritual world of the artist. Through the medium of form, way of handling the brush, presentation, and style, calligraphy as a work of art conveys the moral integrity, character, emotions, esthetical feelings and culture of the artist to readers affecting them by the power of appeal and the joy of beauty.
Wax printing is a folk art popular among certain ethnic minorities in Guizhou and neighboring provinces.
Paper cutting is a traditional art in China which has been making its way along the route of the long history of paper. The kind of art went after the invention of paper in Han Dynasty, once became one of the main forms of arts, and was popular to the people of the time; even in royal families ladies were also judged by the ability at paper cut.
Most of the papers cut artists are women. The themes of their works usually include everything in people's daily life from dumb things to the surroundings. Familiarity makes them understand the real spirit of the art.
Reflection
Doing this project, we met with a lot of difficulties but persisting enables us to finish this project successfully. We did not agree with the time to meet up to do this project and we argue over the different themes we wanted to do. After much discussion, our team decided to choose science and art as our theme. Through research, we get to know more about the invention and technologies of science and art. It leads us back to the older days where ancient Chinese invent and use these things. Sometime thinking flexibly also helps us. When we do not know which the correct way to go is, we can think and remain open to continuous learning. When one of us gives a suggestion, we will respond with wonderment and awe. Habit of mind teaches us to be calm and respond intelligently. We had applied a lot of different habit of mind during this project work and give us lots of opportunities to gather data through all senses and finish our project.
