Healthcare Day 5

Today, Zhang Jian talked about Liver.
Liver is on the right side of our waist. It is the largest internal organ in our body and weighs between 1.4 - 1.6kg. It has a wide range of functions, including detoxification. The liver is necessary for survival; there is currently no way to compensate for the absence of liver function.

Alcohol is bad for liver. Do not drink alcohol just before sleep time as the liver would have to work to detoxify the toxic in the alcohol. Liver rests between 11pm to 2am. Hence, it is best to have complete rest during this time for the liver to recuperate after a day's of hard work.

High cholestrol is one of the symptoms of poor liver. When the liver hardens, there is no cure for it. The only precaution is to prevent the liver from hardening further. When it gets serious, the blood has nowhere to go, the person would splurt blood. The blood of the patient is contaminated. One can die if in contact with the blood of the patient if the person's liver is not strong enough to purge the contamination out.

Today is my 5th session at the healthcare centre.

I learn a lot of things there. On my first time there, I learnt about how important blood is to our whole body. We must have clean blood in order for our body to function well. Blood is circulated around the body through blood vessels by the pumping action of the heart. Our heart is NOT on the left side of our chest. The heart is situated in the chest cavity behind the breastbone with its pointed end directly slightly towards the left and turned downwards the breastbone. It is suspended in a hollow between the lungs and it is kept in position by the large blood vessels which enter and leave the heart.

When we were young, our blood was clean and very fluid. This would not cause any clot in our blood vessels. However, as we grow, we eat all kinds of food, use all types of consumables, our blood is contaminated and it becomes a sticky substance and slows down the speed it flows to our heart. When this happens, there might be clots in the blood vessels. As the clots get bigger, it will results in blood vessels clogged. The clog will become bigger and bigger, and when one day the clot gets too big, it will burst the blood vessels because the blood couldn't get through the vessels. When the above happens, a stroke can happens. Therefore, it is important to keep our blood clean for the smooth flow of it to all parts of our body.

Green veins on the legs are also signs of blood clot in the vessels. This has to be paid attention to as it may result in burst of blood vessels, which can lead to stroke too.

The speaker talked about Liver on the next seminar. (To be cont'd...)
