signs of fall

fall
rain pelts at my windows
it bounces and spatters on the ground
puddles form all around
it’s perfect for jumping in and splashing

fall
wind rustles all the leaves
that cling so ferociously to the trees
while multi-colored leaves already
lay haphazardly on the ground

fall
pumpkin-filled porches are everywhere
children excitedly deciding on their costumes
while the scent of cinnamon and clove
wafts ever so gently on the air

fall
it’s a time to snuggle ‘neath the warm blanket
for savoring the glow of the fireplace
with a book in one hand
and a mug of warm tea in the other

oh yes,
I do love
fall

wind in the willows

the willow branches sway
and blow haphazardly
as fierce gusts of wind
blast through the trees

leaves and small limbs
litter the ground
and surrounding area
as the wind continues
to shake and bend the trees

farm animals are
hunkered down safely,
in their barns

the autumn storm
has arrived just like
it was forecasted
leaving debris scattered
across the lawns and
nearby neighborhood

but, inside the old farmhouse
there is a soft glow
from candles burning,
the warmth of the fireplace
and the scent of soup on the stove
which makes coming in from the storm

a safe haven

bountiful

life on a farm especially this time of year
can be a bit crazy!

there are fields to mow
and grass to put up, manure to get out
and corn to harvest and...

the list goes on and on!!

there are times that i barely see my husband...
this is the season i refer to as
my 'widow season' on the farm
because he works from the time the sun
comes up until it gets dark.
(or the work is done, is it EVER done!?)

today in fact, he was up at 3:30 am and said he will be
going until midnight...
yes, this is the life on a farm!

but, there are blessings living on a farm
that totally outweigh all of the other things.

raising a family on a farm is the BEST!

(these last three photos were taken this summer-before jack moved to vienna)

my husband was raised on the farm
that we now own-

and so were all three of our daughters!

yes, the best place to raise kids. :)

so the other day while he was working,
my daughter and i went out on the RTV
and checked the corn, blackberries and
a nearby spot that has overgrown
pear, plum and apple trees
just waiting to be picked! :)

my daughter picked a whole lot more
blackberries than i did!
i was more concerned with all the pokey stickers and
of course the cobwebs! :(

she even crawled up on the back of our RTV
so she could reach the pears, plums and apples!

and then after we got them home
we washed them and feasted
on a wonderful assortment of farm grown food!

the corn this year is some of the sweetest we have
had in a very long time. It was so delicious!

and the abundant yield of the seasons;

fall is starting to show up in all the retail stores,
while here in the pacific northwest
i feel like we are still enjoying the sunshine!
it takes so long to get here and then it is fall!  ha.
i am not sure i am ready for it yet!

school has begun; i hear the football players
practicing next door at the high school...
with school starting it is a sign that fall is on its way!

it also means i will be hauling out the fall decor,
cozy blankets, scarves, sweaters and boots too! ;)

are you ready for fall?

fall is a time

fall is a time
to haul out the
warm & cozy clothes

sweater- Gap (thrifted-value village) brown top- (thrifted-value village) white tank (mens hanes) belt-Gap (old) skinnies- (JCPenneys) oxfords -(thrifted-salvation army)

check out the awesome oxfords
these are my 2.99 ones-
i pretty much have been wearing
them every. single. day!

fall is a time
for pumpkins
and little boys
who get excited
when granny pulls over
at the stand along the road,
and he gets to pick his
own pumpkin out!
(he also picked out his new dinosaur boots!)
fall is a time
for taking little ones
to the library
finding books to savor
while sitting in granny's lap

fall is a time
for playing on the farm

and most of all
fall is a time
for love
and thankful hearts!

i hope you have
something that
brings a smile
to your face today!

be blessed,

colors

through the window
the colors of fall
burst forth-

all the warm colors
of autumn-
burnt orange
yellow & golds
magenta red
dark brown
shades of
greens and dark purple

there is a scientific
reason the leaves
change their colors
but, for me it is just
the magic of fall

crisp leaves hanging
for dear life on a tree,
blowing in the wind
dancing around
the ground-

how lovely,
is this autumn day!

Fall. Oh how I love you.

Fall. Oh how I love you.

Call it what you will
Autumn, Harvest or Fall
I love it all
the colors, the smells, the textures, the food & candles.

The deep reds, rich purples, dark greens, chocolate browns, burnt orange & goldenrod yellow.
Oh how I love you.

Bowls with apples & satsuma oranges
Pumpkins everywhere, cinnamon spice scented candles
trees with their leaves turning colors, dishes filled with candy
popcorn balls, carmel apples

the fireplace, the warmth and the glow...
homemade cookies, hot apple cider, hot chocolate...spiced tea
how could you not, just love Fall?

I love fall
my family getting together
crockpot dinners
laughing
living & loving life
visits with my grandsons
snuggling with a blanket in the evening
cozy socks
fuzzy scarves
what is there not to be thankful for?
what is there not to love?

Fall. Oh how I love you.

What about you, do you decorate for Fall?
If you do, how soon do you start decorating?
What is your favorite season?
