Summer?

This has been our weather for over a week now. The clouds just hang there at the tops of the mountains. The sun doesn't break through and it's been COLD! BUT it's not raining which is so unusual for this type of weather. And the clouds are staying high enough that it's still plenty bright and we can still enjoy the greenery (now that things are actually green) on the mountain sides. Interesting summer...at least I'm not too hot and missing out on all kinds of fun things because I'm so pregnant! :)

FINALLY!

I've updated my blog - below you'll find almost twenty new posts! I guess it isn't so bad that we woke-up to rain this morning. I've gotten much-needed laundry done too...now I think I'll have a nap! :)

Harbor Rats

When ever I suggest a walk or an outing this is where they choose. They love to be down by the water and walk the docks looking at the boats! Above Corey is sporting his latest run-in with the sidewalk.

Memorial Day

We had grand camping plans for Memorial Day weekend but with the WET weather we decided to hold off (I just don't know if I have it in me to entertain the kids in tent all day at this point). The weather turned beautiful on Sunday though, so we headed to Squirrel Creek for the day Monday. The little raft turned out to be a great impulse buy on our last trip to Anchorage - the kids had soooo much fun paddeling Dave around and around in circles.

And of course there was fishing, because, well that's what we do. Corey stayed glued to Tyler's side out on the little island. I've never seen a two year old pay attention to one thing for so long. He was just watching and learning and was thrilled when they hooked a few lake trout. The one above was really yummy!

It was nice to see and feel the sun. We all came home with some color on our cheeks (some more than others - my mom was fried). And I've pretty much decided that Mondays should be considered part of the weekends. Saturday you use to recoup from work the week before then Sunday is the Sabbath - it would be really nice to have Monday to play every week!

Happy 26th Birthday to Me!

I've been researching SLR cameras for almost a year now and finally settled on the Nikon D40. I purchased a kit that came with the standard 18-55 mm lens as well as a 55-22 mm VR Telephoto...kit lenses are probably not for a professional but I've been VERY happy with mine! Now I'm saving for a Macro - my fave!
*Actual Birthday pictures to come later!

Grandpa & Grandma Petersen

We were very lucky to have a visit from Dave's parents in mid-May. We hadn't seen them since before they left for their mission to Ghana almost two years ago. I was nervous about the weather since it was predicting rain, which it did for the first two days, but afterwards it was beautiful! With the late start we've had on Summer things weren't very green yet, but we still had a good time showing them around our small town.
The kids were very spoiled by all the attention and are still asking when they're coming back to do puzzles, play play dough, go on walks to the 'boat' park, and the beach. They were so great to play with them while I was able to get some much-needed work done for the apartments! Karen also sewed Corey's quilt that I'd been in the process of for some time. What was a pile of flannel blocks (I guess I did have four of twenty rows sewn) when she arrived was complete and on his bed before she left - she's amazing! And Corey is so proud, showing everyone that comes over!
They participated in our local clean-up day and picnic where Karen won a drawing prize and treated us all to ice cream cones with her gift certificate. She also won a certificate to the local health food store for a smoothy - which she gave to me for some 'me time.' I haven't used it yet, but have a feeling I'll need it sometime in the next six and half weeks until this baby comes!
Below you'll find the pictures (LOTS - my new camera came while they were here) from their visit. Also, I have to mention - please excuse the messy bookshelves behind our dining table; we had just put them together and were waiting for one more to arrive...they do not look like that now! :)
