To all the towns I've lived before

Today is August 31. August. This morning I had to turn the heat on both downstairs and upstairs. I'm wearing a sweatshirt and I'm still cold. This is part of the reason that after over two years, Washington still doesn't quite feel like home yet.

First Haircut!

Matt can't stand babies with mullets. We both have our pet-peeves--I particularly dislike the use of the non-word irregardless--and Matt's biggest is when parents won't cut the shaggy mullets off their babies.

Audrey has never had a mullet. This is probably the reason it has taken us longer to finally get her hair cut than it might otherwise have taken. But for some time now Matt and I have been thinking that it's time for Audrey to get her first haircut. As long as we could keep it behind her ears she looked fine, but no matter how many times we tucked, it seemed she was looking more and more Beatles-ish. Also, though you couldn't tell when her hair was dry since it has a little curl to it, when we brushed it out when it was wet the left side was considerably longer than the right.

So on Monday Audrey and I both got our hair done. Neither of us cried or pitched a fit and I think everyone is happy with the results. Thanks Nadine!

This is a before picture.

Nadine has done this a few times so she knew that it was best to leave hands uncovered. I thought it was hilarious that Audrey sat with her arms straight out the entire time.

Here is an after shot. Her hair is still wet and it was only a tiny trim, but in future posts you might be able to tell that it isn't so shaggy. It sure does look a lot better when she wakes up in the morning now!

Please Don't Feed the Monkey!

On Saturday we took Audrey on her first real trip to the zoo. She went at Christmas for the Zoo Lights, but this was her first actual trip getting to see the animals. While we were there, Matt and I realized that this zoo is kind of lame. There aren't many animals, it's built on a huge hill, the animals they do have are hard to see, and they don't sell chocolate-covered frozen bananas. But for a one-year old and her hot and tired parents, it was just fine.

One of the highlights of the trip was the stuffed elephant we got her from the gift shop. She was very cute while we were picking it out. Every animal we presented her with she would hug and carry around; sometimes she would carry three or four.

Audrey was interested in the goats, but wasn't too sure about actually feeding them. She had a death grip on the food pellet we gave her.

The other highlight of the zoo was the splash park in the children's section. She loved it! Oh how I wish we had a splash park somewhere near our house.

Trying to get a better view.

This Beluga whale was hilarious. She (he?) was totally laying out. I guess even the sea creatures feel it's necessary to take advantage of the occasional sunshine.

Welcome Home Pops! From Munch

Hi everyone! This is Audrey. I wanted to do a post on the blog for my Pops and Mama said I could. This past week my Pops has been in California river rafting with the scouts. He and Uncle Kiff both went. And Aunt Jill and Macy left to visit Macy's grandparents so it was just Mama and me at home all week.

We kept busy running errands and shopping. I also got to have a swimming party and face my carseat forward. All week I even got to ride in a car with air conditioning. We had a good time, but I really missed Pops. Mama said he left for a week last year too, but I was only two months old so I don't remember. She also said that I didn't remember him when he got back and was a little scared of him. I don't know about that. How could I forget my Pops?

But last night he came home and was here to get me this morning when I woke up. I'm so glad you're home Pops! I love you tons and tons!

Today I helped Pops do the dishes.

Mama and I played outside on the days it was sunny and not cold or raining. I'm holding a rose petal under my neck. They're pretty neat, but I prefer dirt and rocks.

While Pops made lunch today, I played with dirt and rocks. So fun!

Hi Macy! I really love your chair and carry it around the house any chance I get. Mama and Pops might need to get me one of these. Thanks for letting me play with it while you're gone Macy! I miss you!

This is a picture from the first time I went swimming in my pool. I just love my handsome Pops. He takes such good care of me! I'm so glad he's home!
