How we roll

Took Jacob bowling.
He learned from the MASTER bowler himself...aka DAD
Took time in between bowls to do some break dancing and spinning and made sure all the balls were always moving on the racks.
He's so entertaining, I have fun wherever we go!

Holt Family 2014 Olympics

Tonight might have been my favorite Family Home Evening yet. It was the Holt Family 2014 olympics opening ceremonies....we had a lesson on keeping our bodies healthy and strong, marched around the coffee table singing the olympic tune (jacob is a nut)...and competed in 2 events; Push-ups and Ping Pong. Jacob won gold in both out doing both of us with 23 pushups and 3 of the cutest serves I've ever seen. We are trying to think of other events we can compete in as a family this week....any suggestions?

Kids Were Here

Today I came across a cute group of photographers that have a project called "kids were here". They basically just try to capture evidence of children being present. I kind of love the simplicity of the concept and the insight it gives everyone of what living with a child is like. I can appreciate a good mess when it comes with good memories. So here is my "kids were here" for today. Or rather...Jacob was here.
{Under our dining room table. After lunch I put Jacob to sleep and came back down to clean up...I felt like old McDonald and I were both thinking the same thing and it made me giggle}

SNOW DAY 02.01.2014

Saturday was the perfect snow day!
It all started when Jacob let us put on all his snow gear...even a hat and gloves. This NEVER happens which results in cold hands and coming in soon after he's touched the snow a few times.
It was nice & warm outside and the kind of thick big and beautiful snowflakes that makes you feel like you're in a winter wonderland and the snow is actually cotton balls.
Dave didn't have work so we set out as a family to clear the drive way and side walks.
We built snow hills in the backyard for Jacob to climb.
We made snow angels.
We played on the swings & sent Jacob soaring down the slick slide into a snow pile...which he absolutely LOVED!
I got Dave good by dumping a snow shovel full of powder on him when he was distracted, and then he  got me back by plowing me into the snow.
(but it was one of those days when you kind of want to be thrown into the snow)
And Jacob worked diligently loading and unloading his snow plow his aunt Angi past down to him this summer.
After a few hours we came in and sipped hot chocolate together, put Jacob down for a nap and had a nice cozy Office marathon on Netflix.
It was perfect!

Jan 28 2014

Well school has been cancelled the past two days due to sub zero temperatures...again.
Apparently Jacob thinks this means naps are cancelled too.
Since we're not up for leaving the house and risking frost bite we've kept busy watching John Deere movies on Youtube, playing with play dough, reading books & taking nice long baths. Jacob was watching the shadows from the trees blowing outside for a long while and I just curled up on my bed reading a book enjoying a moment of peace and quiet.

I hope I never take these sweet little moments for granted.
Jacob really is my JOY!

What he's saying these days...EVERYTHING, but here are some of our favorites;

He sings Jingle Bells & E-I-E-I-O
John ear (deere)
eyes, ears, mouth, nose, head, toes, shoulder, knee & BELLY BUTTON (which is always the grand finally and said really loud with a smile while he lifts his shirt.
tractor, Combine, choo choo, trucks, school bus
Oh WOW
Oh Dear
Oh no, what happen?
You okay?
HEEELOOOO
where are you? (pee-a-booing or in the morning when he wakes up)
Where's Jacup?
woo hoo
Momeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
BYE YOU ( hid response when I say I love you. Don't know why he always says it this way but he does)
He repeats just about anything you say or anything he hears but these are our favorites.

Last night for FHE we sang B.O.M. stories and for the rest of the night he carried around his little book (aka held his hands together in front of him like an open book just like we did during the song)

Bookworm

Jan.2014
Jacob is a bookworm.
We spend a lot of our cold winter days bundled up in a blanket reading books together in the sun room.
At least I have a warm & happy heart even though I live in a state that has been colder than Alaska and Russia these past two weeks.
(try 30 below and blustering winds)

Frist Official Hair Cut

1.18.14 Jacob stared at himself in the mirror for a good twenty minutes smiling and giving himself kisses while I snipped away his little long wispies. I was shocked he did so well & am so glad bed head won't be a crazy mess anymore on the back of his head anymore. He even stood against the wall and said CHEESE after so I could capture the moment and he could see himself in the camera again.

13 months

Jacob is 13 months now.
He likes dirt, tools, dad, roaming outside no matter the temperature, and more dirt!
When we're outside he picks up sticks, rocks, dirt clumps waves them around and squeeks and flaps his arms.
It's my favorite!
I can't wait for it to be warmer weather all ready so we can live outside.

Here  are some pictures of Jacob and Dave enjoying 42 degree sunny weather ( it felt so warm, pathetic right? ) and getting the yard prepped for planting grass seeds this weekend.

Jacob is at such a fun age of exploring and observing and running so we can chase him.
Love him more and more each day.
