The McLaws Reunion was at Busby Ranch in Overgaard again this year. Friday night we went to Mark and Twila's to visit with some of Bruce's family and some of Uncle Buds family. Saturday we got there for lunch then stayed through dinner. It rained and everything was SO muddy. We did manage to get some pinatas made and broken before it started raining. Here are some pictures from the day -

Celebration
The Pioneer Day Celebration in Snowflake this year was very strange. For starts there was a McLaws reuion this past weekend so we knew we were going to have to try to juggle between the two. We were going to have 7 extra kids on Friday so I decided we wouldn't even attempt to go to the Flake stuff - rodeo and lunch. Well those families had different plans that I found out about Thursdays so I decided to take the kids and go over there for a few of the festivities. We didn't get there until the rodeo was almost over so we pretty much said hi and left. We went to the lunch and it was nice. After that we went to Rex's house to visit for a while. That night we went to the McLaws reuion. Saturday we headed back to Snowflake for the parade. We didn't want to attempt to be there at 8:00 sharp for the races so we just missed those this year. The parade was good - as usual. I was hoping to see some old friends from high school but didn't manage to run into any this year. That is usually one of the best parts about going.
Here are the kids waiting for the parade to start:
It was fun while we were there but missed my mom and dad and their house being there. Usually that is the meeting ground for everybody and they have their house rented out while they are on their mission so we resorted to brother's houses.

Backpacking with YW
We were lucky enough to get asked to go on a backpacking camping trip with the YW. Several YW leaders were going to be out of town so they asked us to go. I have never been backpacking before but I love camping and I love hiking but wasn't sure how this would go.
Bruce getting his pack ready.
Us at home getting ready to head out the door.
Bro and Sis Taylor - the other couple that went.
The girls at the parking spot packed up and ready to go.
Lets go!!
We didn't take the camera on the hike with us because we figured it was going to rain and I didn't want to worry about it. I so wish I would have. It was SO pretty. We hiked up Horton Creek which is at the bottom of the rim by Christopher Creek. We headed out about 2:00 on the trail. We hiked about a mile and set up camp. We camped right by the creek and I LOVED the running water the whole time but especially at night. It rained on us just after we got there and got our tents set up. For dinner we had chicken and instant mashed potatoes and pudding as a treat that night. We had a program around the fire and went to bed. It was much enjoyed not having any kids to worry about - Bruce and I just hopped in our bags and went to sleep (but we did miss them). The next morning we had our instant oatmeal and hot chocolate and packed up camp. We got our day packs out and ready with trail mix and our bagel sandwiches and apple. We left our big packs and headed up to the top of the spring - about 3 miles. We got to the head of the spring and played in the water a little. The water was really cold up there. After lunch we headed back down the trail we stopped along the way to play in the water. There were very pretty waterfalls along the way. We got to our packs put them on and hiked back down to the cars. We had a blast. We had so much fun we are taking the kids in a couple of weeks. One thing I loved about it was how simple it is. When we go camping it takes an hour to get everything loaded, forever to set up camp and forever to take down. When everything you have is on your back it is all fast.

So cute???
Fishing
Last Saturday we took our kids to Willow Springs for a "real" fishing trip. By real I mean not catching fish every few minutes like at Twila's the week before. Actually Rhett and Bruce were the only 2 that caught any and they were so small we threw them back. We had a nice afternoon going even though we didn't eat fish for dinner (they were all counting on that). We got rained out so we left - that was another good thing. Here are some pic from the afternoon:
