Oh my, I can't believe it!

With Bridget turning 12 comes Young Women's! Well last night was her first night of mutual and it was combined with all 3 wards and was the annual Halloween Dance. So yep, I dropped Bridget off at the church for her first dance. The theme was Disney so she decided to dress up as Minnie Mouse......

She was way excited, I was excited for her too but it was REALLY strange. It was even crazier when we walked in to get her (a little early of course so we could check it out) and saw her dancing with a BOY. She had a blast dancing the night away and couldn't stop talking about it last night and this morning. What a fun time in life.

Wrestling

Dustin is wrestling again this year with the Jr. High. He seems to really be enjoying it again. Tuesday they had their first meet against Holbrook. They didn't have anybody for Dustin to wrestle so he is wrestling Lyle - one of his friends here.

Pumpkins

Last night for FHE we carved our pumpkins. So much fun!! This is Kaylee doing her I want to carve a pumpkin dance (see below but I don't know why it's sideways). Tyllinn was a trooper and planed out and carved her whole pumpkin by her self. Kaylee had a good start at it. The kids had lots of fun doing this.

Five little pumpkins setting on a gate. The first one said, "Oh, my it's getting late!"
The second one said, "There are witches in the air."
The third one said, "But we don't care."
The fourth one said, "Let's run, let's run!"
The fifth one said, "Isn't Halloween fun?"

Then Wooooooo went the wind
And out went the lights.

And five little pumpkins rolled out of sight.

My Friend Dezi....

This is Bridget posting this.
My great friend,Dezi, is who I'm going to talk about. She had the same birthday as I did, October 21,1998. We had a whole lot in common. Some of the things we had in common were: our favorite color (purple), favorite food (Chicken with Rice),favorite animal (dog),and more things. I was going to have a little birthday party with her and more friends, but she didn't make it due to Leukemia and Crones Disease. Even though I did not know her for that long, I knew she was a great example to anyone and tried to make everyone happy. I'm thankful for that I got to know her.
In the first two pictures, that is her Paris Party that one of her Dr.'s put on for her. Why this dr did this is because Dez had always wanted to go to Paris. The Dr. was going to take her there but she was too sick and didn't feel good. There, what they did was have those little Paris hats and have Paris food. They also had this artist come to draw our picture like in the streets of Paris. Another thing they had was these cute little bags with Paris things in them, and there was the "Eifle Tower" there in the "streets" of Paris. They were showing Ratitoi, because it is based in Paris. This was one of her last days here.
The third picture was her somewhere in Utah getting ready to sing the song "The Climb" by Miley Cirus.
The last picture is about when my mom and dad went with the Young Women on a hike. I needed a place to stay so I stayed at Marinda's house and Dezi was there. Since there was a bunch of girls there we decided we would paint our nails (also because we had a PRO Nail Polish Painter there). Dezi, Marinda, and I, painted the little girls nails. After that, Dezi and I decided we would do our own nails, so that is what we did.
I'm thankful that I got to know Dezi and spend some time with her.

Suprise!!

With it being Bridget's 12th birthday I wanted for her to have a little celebration. I decided to do a little suprise party for her. Friday about 4:45 Bruce took Bridget to get a movie and some soda for the homemade pizza we were making for dinner. I had called and had 4 of Bridget's friends arranged to show up at 5:00. Bruce and Bridget came home and the friends were hiding in the pantry. I told Bridget to put something away in there so she opened the door and out popped Megan, Sienna and Torin (Kesiah couldn't come until later). They yelled surprise and Bridget started laughing and asked them what they were doing here. They told her they were here for her party. I didn't know for sure which friends to invite so I hope nobody got their feelings hurt.

We made homemeade pizza. Bridget and Sienna with theirs.

Megan and Torin with theirs.

Playing the Wii waiting for their pizza to cook. Bridget was SO excited as you can see from this picture.

Chow Time!

Afer they ate we watched "Your So Cupid." It was perfect for those girls. The finished the movie and played some games then it was time to go home.

Bridget loved it and it was nice it was a suprise!

Bridget's Birthday

Bridget's 12th birthday was Thursday. She woke up with a big grin on her face. The kids all got ready for school fast so Bridget would have time to open presents before school. Bridget is wearing her black Paris hat and necklaces in honor of her friend, Des, who died a month earlier that they have the same birthday. She was really hoping to share a 12th birthday and party with her.

She was SO excited when she opened this Ukulele. She hadn't asked for one or anything so she was super surprised.

All the kids with Bridget.

I made cookies to take into her class. Here her and Megan are passing out the cookies to the class.

A class picture with teacher Mr. Starkes.

I checked Bridget out of school early so she could go to Showlow with me shopping. We had lots and lots of fun. Here we are at JCPenney's hoping to find some deals but it didn't happen.

Bruce missed out on the birthday dinner with us. Bridget decided to go to Denny's and as you can see she is thrilled - especially with her chocolate milk shake!

We got home and had candles and soggy graham crackers (aka Graham Cracker dessert but Bruce calls it soggy graham cracker so that's just kind of stuck). My kids are finally learning there are lots more yummy treats they can have for their birthday then just cake and ice cream. We looked at the mail and she was excited to find a birthday letter from Grandma and Grandpa Flake and enjoyed reading them.

Blowing our her candles.

Happy Birthday Bridget - we love you and are SO glad you came to our home to be our daughter!!

My Little (always will be) Bridget is turning 12 tomorrow. I can not believe it!! Tonight some of the Young Women came to Heart Attack her bed while she was having an interview with the bishop.

She was very pleasantly surprised.

She is looking forward to the fun times of being a Beehive. She was way excited to get a temple recommend tonight to do Baptisms for the Dead - hopefully we can get there soon to do that. Happy Birthday tomorrow dear Bridget!!

Hmmm

Flake Family Reunion

FYI - This post is way longer and way too many pictures then most people will care about. It is this detailed for my parents and LeAnne who weren't able to go.

This past weekend we were able to go to the Flake Family Reunion with my brothers and sisters and their families. This is where it was:

There were cabins there for all of us to stay in. Most of them had 2 families in them. There were 2 big dorms that was lined with bunk beds - one for the girls one for the boys. Here is Bruce enjoying his bed:

One of the best things about reunions is playing games. Porter, Rhett and Austin agree.

Bridget and Melissa were together the whole time and loved every minute of it. They were great errand girls and great to stay at others cabins with little kids so the parents could come to ours and play games. They had their own room here and loved it. They are 2 very good girls.

Like I said before one of the best things about reunions are the games. This is true among the adults. To add to that is all the junk we get to eat while playing games.

Katelyn, Nena, Kaylee and Tylinn try to get a 1000 piece puzzle together in Scott and Kelli's cabin. Unfortunately they weren't too successful.

There is a huge beautiful football field we played and played on. Tylinn is getting ready to throw the Frisbee.

And of coarse there has to be football. Clar is so good to play with all the little kids and they all love him for it. Later that day there was on with a bunch of adults and some of the smaller kids kind of got clobbered.

Bruce and Rhett posing for a picture.

Bridget and Melissa again.

Tylinn and Trevor

Saturday morning we went for a hike along the creek. It was nice until the trail disappeared and we had to turn around. Scott and Reed helping Tylinn cross the creek. Tylinn had a little mishap later that day and was swinging over the creek - her hands slipped and she fell in - all the way in over her head. Thankfully Rex was there to save her. It wasn't very deep but she was scared and freezing.

Scott checking out where the trail goes.

We took the wrong trail and had to go up so some of us took the cross country way instead of going back and around. It was kind of funny watching Tylinn and Austin trying to get over this huge tree that was down.

Bruce with Dustin, Rhett, Tylinn, Austin and Kaylee.

Some of the crew that went hiking.

After we got back from the hike Bruce and Shawn took of for a little hiking (or a lot I guess) and a little fishing. They caught quite a few but were a long ways away to pack them back.

We played some outside games on the football field. This one we each had a balloon tied to our waist.

With a tack on our nose we were supposed to try to pop each others balloons. Kaylee and Jordan are waiting for the game to start.

It was pretty funny watching every body. I didn't want to pop anyone's balloons because I didn't want the balloon to pop in my face. Tylinn is ready for the fun to begin.

The football field is at the base of a hill and there are georgous trees all around. It was picture perfect - or better. A lot of the trees had started turning colors so it was prettier now then in the summer when it was all green. We had lots of fun taking lots of pictures down there. Here are some of the pretty leaves.

There were crafts or as Kaylee would call it craps for the little kids to do that Jami, Jill, Kami and Kristen did. Here Kaylee is with her cute ghost and bat she made.

Tylinn was super excited about the Halloween coloring pages they had for them to color.

It was hard to get the whole group together for a group picture but here is the one with the most people in it. We took one earlier in the day but more came later.

Bruce and I with some of the pretty trees.

Reed and Will and wives with the help of a few other cooked a DELICIOUS dutch oven dinner Saturday night for us. Dad taught them well and would have been proud. I don't know if it tasted so good because I haven't had it for a while or if they are just really good but it was GREAT! Stake, potatoes, biscuits gravy and salad - the usual dutch oven dinner. Oh yeah and peach cobbler for dessert. Reed putting a pot on the fire.

Will and Rex cooking the steaks.

Rex and I were in charge of the program Saturday night. Our kids did a little play about some greedy brothers. Bridget was the king with her rotten brothers that worked things out and ended up treating each other right.

Scott reading the poem called "The Field". I need to post that on here so I have it in my book. He did a great job writing it and I think it is how the whole family feels.

The audience during the program.

For part of the program we played a game called Guiness Game of Family Records. I split the family into 4 different groups. The first thing I did was to see who had the longest thumb. Each table would find the longest in their group and come to the front and we would pick the winner out of all them. I didn't realize I had so many that Todd would win: tallest, longest thumb, jump the farthest and a few others. I guess most of them were for tall skinny people and there aren't lots of those in our family so Todd won quite a few. Another one that we did was the longest tounge. Tounges are gross especially when you are trying to judge the longest one. The final 3 where Madi, Mellissa and Jill. It doesn't look like it from this picture but Jill won this one.

Saturday night while we were playing games there was a knock at our door and we opened it to this:

Trick or Treat is all they had to say for themselves! I'm suprised Dustin and Rhett did that - they usually won't let anybody see them with their shirt off but it was pretty funny.
It was a fun reunion and of coarse the kids loved every minute of it. It was too short with starting Friday evening and leaving Sunday morning but I guess that's how it worked out.
