Seriously??

With all this great snow (more today) there is the worst thing that comes after, yep MUD! Things are SO muddy. Our driveway is terrible - you drive up and slip and slide in your car all over in the mud. Yesterday evening Bruce and I drove up here and we got STUCK in our driveway. Who really gets stuck in their driveway? The road has been really bad but yesterday it was raining so it was terrible. I've made it out a couple times today so I hope yesterday was just really bad.

Rides Again

I have been noticing looking at my past 2 blog books and putting stuff on here that life is pretty much the same thing year after year. Kids just older and things a little different with the activities going on.

Yesterday was the Annual Pony Express at the Post Office. This is the "exciting" day at the PO if there is such a thing. Bridget's class and the other 5 grade class walked down there to learn a little about it. They went earlier than I thought they were so I missed them being there. They just talked to a couple of riders but had to be back to school when the rider came in and left again.

As you can see in this picture Kaylee had fun petting the horse of the guy that was waiting to leave the Heber PO.

Here is Bruce handing the mail bag to the rider waiting to take off.

Something that was a little different this year is they just rode out of Heber then they were loading all the horses up and hauling them down to the bottom of the rim. There has never been this much snow and they didn't feel it was safe for the horses or riders to be riding when there was so much snow on the side of the road so they couldn't get off the road at all. Also there wasn't anywhere for the horse trailers to pull off and pick up and drop off riders. They said this is the time this has happened - not riding the whole way from Holbrook to Scottsdale.

Enjoying snow

After the big snow of course comes the playing in it.
These picture are in reverse order. These first 2 pictures are taken in Forest Lakes. Sunday after church we went for a drive to see what 6 feet of snow looks like. It was unbelievable. We drove around a little and took a couple of pictures. That is a ton of snow.

Saturday of course we had to play in the snow. During the week the kids and Andersens Dad and kids found a fun sledding spot around the hill from our house. Bruce went over there with the kids Friday and they all loved it. Saturday all of us went. Bruce hung around home waiting for Kyi and Jorgena to show up and was fixing some tubes. The kids and I were over playing. A bunch of Parry's came to play too. All of the kids got cold and ended up going home. Bruce and I, Reece and Marinda and Kyi and Jorgena stayed and tubed down the hill a few times. The hill is pretty steep with a few jumps in it that weren't my favorite but it was still tons of fun. Reece has 2 big tubes that 2 adults can ride at the same time on - we were going down on those. It was time to go and Reece tied his tubes to his 4-wheeler and told Marinda and I to get on. He pulled us out by the bus barn in a little field there where his brothers made a track thing to pull tubes in circles. This was a blast. I guess I haven't been pulled on a tube for years and especially around in circles so you are trying to stay on the tube. It was a fun day for all!
Here is Dustin trying to help Tylinn on the sled and as he hops on behind her.

As I mentioned earlier these hills were pretty steep and it really wasn't a spot for a little kid to go down by themselves. Rhett took Kaylee up and was going to go down with her and he slipped and she took off. Kaylee was pretty proud of herself by the time she got to the bottom for going down by herself. She loved it, it was pretty funny.

Bridget with her tube ready for some fun. She used this tube all the time. She wasn't a fan of the sled board things the boys used.

I didn't get any pictures of Dustin or Rhett going down, they were going SO fast. There were the couple of jumps in the hill they would catch air lots. We did a few times on the tubes but nothing like them on these things. They loved it but I'm very surprised we didn't come home with any broken arms, legs, etc.

If AZ is a Desert, it's a white one!!!

We have had a snow storm like I have never before seen. Monday was Civil Rights day so the kids didn't have school. Tuesday we woke up to snow - the kids had 2 hour delay for school. Wednesday we woke up and there was more snow so they canceled school. It was a beautiful snow day. The sun came out and it was nice outside. The kids had lots of fun outside playing with neighbor kids. There was probably a good foot to 1 1/2 feet Wednesday. Thursday woke up to more snow so school was canceled again. About 10:00 that morning the snow turned to rain. It rained all day on Thursday. There was water sitting everywhere. With snow on the ground the water couldn't run anywhere, plus it was melting snow. When we went to bed that night in front of our house water was just about up to the top of our sidewalk. Thankfully it turned to snow in the night. Everybody knew this was coming to last night they canceled school for today (Friday). And this morning we woke up to a foot more of snow. It has been snowing all day. We have about 2 1/2 feet now and that is not counting what ever melted yesterday with the rain. Bruce has been able to get out every morning with the truck but the car and van aren't moving - they are pretty much buried.

Bruce dug a path up to the chickens and rabbits.

The snow is just about up to the trampoline. I was playing on it today and cleaned most of the snow off the top of it.

This afternoon thankfully Reece pushed the snow on our road and driveway so we could get the van out. If he didn't do that I don't know when it would have moved. Everything has been canceled (except the mail)and we have just stayed home. Tonight we are going out - I am ready to get out of the house. The kids have been really good but I am getting stir crazy. Yesterday I had to get out so after Bruce got home from work he took me on a drive and we got a movie to watch last night.

These picture were taken yesterday. Today the little car is pretty much covered. We have been waiting for a snow storm like this for many years. It has been fun to watch it fall and it will be fun to see how long this much snow hangs around. I am already dreading the MUD though!!

Mr. Speller

Last week Dustin's teacher called and said Dustin was the alternate for his class for the school(4-8 grade) Spelling Bee. Him and this girl in his class tied for 2nd so they did a spell off and the other girl got the word right so Dustin was the alternate (each class had 2 kids). I didn't think much of it because what are the chances of one of the girls being gone for the Spelling Bee. Well Thursday Dustin came home and said one of the girls that was supposed to be in it had been sick and gone from school all week so he was probably going to be in it. I was not a very good mom and told Bridget to go over some words with him once and that was fine. Well Friday sure enough I get a call from Mrs. Pinneo that Dustin was going to be in it. Bruce, Kaylee and I went and of course Bridget was there. Dustin ended up with a tie for 2nd place so I guess we are going to the County Spelling Bee sometime in February. A couple of the words he had to spell were pigeon, agricultural - we can't remember the other 4. The word he got out on was oblige, he spelled it with an a instead of an o. Anyway, he did really good and loved it when 4,6,7, and 8 grade were all cheering for him chanting his name - he got excited. Bridget's little friend Megan ended up beating him and winning.

I want to be a mom.

I like to write this like this down that my kids say or do so I have it for later.
The other day we got in the van and Kaylee didn't want to get in her car seat. She asked why she had to. I told her because I was the Mom and I said so. I told her when she was a mom she could say what happened.
Later that day she was eating lunch and asked why would there be 2 mommies in the house when she got big. I explained to her that she would get married and live in a house with her family. She got big tears in her eyes and starting crying and said "Mommy I don't want to leave you, I want to stay with you forever." Well I know this will change but I can enjoy it for now!

I'm afraid!

When we were in Mesa over Christmas Break I mentioned that we went to the visitor's center to watch the Joseph Smith movie. Love the movie but when Joseph is praying in the Scared Grove it gets a little dark and gloomy. My parents gave us Church History DVD's for Christmas and the kids have been watching those. It's pretty much the same thing when it shows that part.

Well last week for FHE Rhett read the scripture in James 1:5 - "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him." We were talking to the kids about this scripture - that if they want to know the church is true they can just pray about it and they will get their answer. Dustin was VERY quick to come back with - he didn't want to right now. I was kind of surprised so we asked him a little more and he said he was afraid that if he did that what happened to Joseph Smith with the First Vision would happen to him. Bruce and I got a pretty good laugh out of that but made us think I that we've never thought about it that way and a kids point of view on it.

Birthday Boy

Yesterday was Dustin's 10th birthday. It seems like we have been celebrating for the past 3 days. Friday I took treats into his class and after school we took the kids to ShowLow to watch the new Chipmunk Movie - those things are so dang cute. We don't do that too often with the whole family so the enjoyed that and a night on the big town of ShowLow. Dustin wanted to wander around Big 5 - he loves that store.
Saturday night Bruce and I took him to Red Onion for his birthday dinner. We love doing this with our kids. He got a huge ol hamburger and he thought he could down it but didn't quite make it.!

Yesterday was the "real" birthday. Mostly the typical Sunday except with presents, cake and ice cream.

He wanted a football cake so that's what he got. Marinda and the kids came over to share cake and ice cream with us. It seems crazy he is 10 years old and will be getting the Priesthood in just 2 years - he's very excited for that!

My due date with Dustin was January 1, 2000. Everybody just knew (or thought) that I was going to have the first Millennium baby. Well I knew different because I knew I would be late. Sure enough, January 10th I woke up and started having contractions. I had a Dr's appointment that day to set a day to induce me. It was all I could do to wait until my appointment and not just go to the hospital but I knew I could wait a little longer. The doctor checked me and said "let's go have a baby." We got to the hospital about 3:00 and he was born 6:08 pm. He was a big baby weighing 9lbs 6 oz. What was really crazy about the whole thing is my sister was in Utah in the hospital having a baby. Dustin was born about 30 minutes before Garth. I was due 2 days before LeAnne so it was only fair Dustin came first. Dustin was my biggest baby but the only one I started contractions with by myself (with out Pit). He has brought us 10 years of fun (not every minute but lots!).
10 fun things about Dustin:
1. He loves to help me in the kitchen. He is my biggest helper there.
2. He loves sports and is very interested in Football games and his sports cards. He loves to play football with his cousins and Clar and can't wait until he's wearing the uniform.
3. He loves the outdoors and loves camping.
4. He has a tender heart and doesn't like it when somebody is crying.
5. He's a smart kid.
6. Has the cutiest smile ever with his big teeth.
7. Likes to help his dad.
8. Mom's right hand man when Bruce isn't around.
9. He loves cub scouts and is excited to be a Weblo.
10. He is full of life and we love it!

New Year

Well I don't have anything too exciting to put on here about the new year. New Years Day Holli, Katelyn, Trevor and Melissa came to visit for a few days. The kids had lots of fun spending the night with cousins between here and Twila's. The kids rode their bikes to the church for some more riding. Bruce, Holli and I had fun playing the Wii after the kids went to bed - hopefully many more nights of that to come.

I love the chance for new years and new starts on things. The kids are back in school and we are back to the routine. I was dreading the first day back- getting up, getting kids up etc. but it is nice to have a schedule again and everybody getting enough sleep - that right there makes for a happier home!! I was sad when the kids left for the bus but Rhett took care of that with the nurse calling about 10:00 with Rhett with a small fever - so he got to come home and play with Kaylee. They want to them to stay home from school 24 hours after the fever is gone so he got to stay home Tuesday too - that was a 100% play day. I almost sent him to school but worried he wouldn't start feeling good and go to the nurse and them wonder why I didn't keep him home like I was supposed to.

Anyway life is good - back to school, piano lessons, scouts, achievements days, homework and everything else.

New Years Eve

Of course after all the Christmas festivities comes the fun New Years Eve. We spent our evening with some of Bruce's family. Mark and Twila were at their house here and David and Debbie and Family came. We had a yummy dinner then played and visited.

Bridget, Auti, Tylinn, Amber

Rhett and Dallin

Brocky, Kaylee, Jakey

After we left there Bruce was going to to go the church for the Mutual party. He found out there was enough help so he went to bed. The kids and I went to the Martineau's house for more food and games. I was having so much fun playing that I didn't even think about getting my camera out of the car for pictures. The kids had fun with all the other kids running around. It was great welcoming in the New Year. It's been a great 2009 and look forward to a great 2010!

Cousins and Grandma Nena

The Sunday after Christmas the kids and I loaded up for a trip to Mesa to see cousins and Grandma Nena. Usually after Christmas all the families go to Snowflake to Grandma and Grandpa's house for a while to continue the partying. They aren't there so off we went to Mesa. We stayed at Grandma Nena's house - we like to do that while we can. We left Sunday after church and went to the Ridings to eat dinner. After dinner we were visiting and somebody got the idea to talk to Grandma and Grandpa with the Ridings web cam. Mother and Dad were snowed in so we figured they would like something to do too. That was really neat. I was glad the kids got to see them. I think some of the little kids wondered what happened to them. It was fun to visit and Grandpa, of course, told a story - the kids favorite! There was lots of noise with everybody talking and things. It quieted down a little bit and Kaylee says "I love you Grandpa". We miss them but know they are where they need to be.

Monday the kids rode bikes and ripsticks around at Grandma's house then we went to the Ridings to play. Kelli, Holli and I went to lunch and did a little shopping. One of our reasons to go down there was to see the lights at the temple. I knew it wouldn't be the same after but we still enjoyed it and enjoyed being at the temple. We had FHE at the Ridings - Grandma Nena was at the siblings family Christmas party.
Here are the kids at the temple with Katelyn - Her and Holli went with us to see the lights.

Tylinn, Dustin and Rhett

All of us - Bruce stayed home to do what he wanted. He went in to work Monday morning then mostly was piddling around.

Tuesday the kids and I and Holli and Kids went to the Visitors Center to watch the Joseph Smith Movie. We've seen it before but I wanted the kids to see it again. It was nice to have our testimonies of Joseph Smith be strenghtened. After that we headed home!
