January 25, 2008-still working on blog set up-photos only

Here is a turtleneck that Guy is modeling. I am thinking how much fun it would be walking him wearing a matching poncho! Maybe some day..............
Lucia is starting the sleeve of a sweater. It is a difficult pattern and she says we will be seeing it over the next months, target date: fall.
This is a belt to the Einstein coat. It is a short row stitch that my camera didn't pick up from the angle I shot it.
Zelphia took time on Martin Luther King day to knit premie hats for a hospital. And teaching us how to help out as well.
Above: a baby blanket and below is a scarf by a new knitter purled so she can do both.

Yeaaaa! she finished the socks! She is starting another pair below.

Zelphia is showing us a scarf she finished.
The following two photos are the same scarf before we pulled out the fringe down either side and after.

Above: she finished her first scarf and below, working on socks.

Above: a hat and scarf. Below: a very classy felted bag.

Above and below: before felting.

Above: two finished and felted handbags.
Below: After we took the bag off the needles no one could imagine that it could turn into the very cool handbag below it.

Here is Leslie, one of our volunteers, showing us a beautiful scarf she has created.
Above: working on a bag. It is growing each week. Below: This bag is now felted but the photo isn't here yet. It turned out beautiful.

Above: Zelphia our volunteer and our client are showing us their Einstein coats.
Above: felted slippers. Below: socks in progress, and on circulars! This is our outpatient client who comes back to help the new knitters.

Above: a hat and scarf. Below: this is a project by Zelphia.

Above: Zelphia's socks. Below: Zelphia finished a beautiful lacy poncho with mohair. Zelphia is a volunteer who comes each week.

Our outpatient client above is working on socks. And below: Lucia, a volunteer, is showing us her daughter's "graduation" socks. Congratulations to her on her graduation.

Above: a new knitter. Below, Michelle, our intern, is showing us a scarf she is working on.

Above: Michelle finished her scarf. Below: a client finished her hat and scarf and was thrilled to learn how to make fringe.

Above: Lucia is teaching a client to make a sweater for a child. Below: those socks continue to make progress.

Above: another lacy project by a client.
Above: a scarf by a new knitter. Below: one of our volunteers, Maryanne, who only comes when she can get off from work(we miss you), finished this little sweater for her niece.

Above: The washcloth is finished. For a first project, everyone knits a washcloth.

We all laugh when Yvette(who works here) comes into the group and wants to model everybody else's work.
I am presently working on the blog layout. Sorry if there is any inconvenience as I figure it all out . I am posting our newest group photos. So many beautiful projects: coats, socks, sweaters! And so many beautiful colors and combinations of yarns. More to be posted.........

January 11, 2008

Above: she is a new knitter who really has found knitting to be a help to her in early recovery. She has only been here two weeks and she is already on scarves.

Below: this is the blanket that we make here with bits and pieces of yarn. Each row is a different yarn. This client has cast on 125 and is doing it in a p1, p2tog, stitch and it is turning out to be just beautiful. It seems to go faster with this stitch than the garter stitch.

Above: Leslie our volunteer brought in a blanket she made for her daughter many years ago. she is showing the clients what intarsia is.

Below: a client's first project! Everyone does a washcloth before moving on to yarn projects.

Above: I am into making dog clothing! It is a great way to learn different stitches and figure out patterns. And it is rewarding if you have a small dog because you see the results quicker. Guy, always needs a sweater for his two long walks a day.
Jean, our volunteer, is showing the clients slippers she made.
Above: Our client designed a pattern by mixing knitting and purling. Below: Maude who works here is joining us for some of our knitting group today!

Below: Michelle is showing the clients scarves she is making. Michelle is an intern here for this year.

Above: our client is trying all kinds of patterns from our pattern library! Below: another client is making a handbag.

Above: Lucia and below Zelphia and below Jean. Our volunteers come each week to knit with and teach the clients.

Above and Below: Our client (outpatient) four years clean and sober! (yeaaaa) completed her "Einstein" coat. It is absolutely beautiful.

Above: look at what our client did with bits and pieces of sock yarn. they are the very best socks. what a great idea. She is having such fun now that she is a sock expert.
Below: Stephanie is showing the clients a project she is working on. She is a volunteer.

Above and below: handbags that will be finished and felted.

Above: Lucia is working with a client on a child's sweater.
Below: Our client finished her short row scarf. It is a gift for a friend. It is beautiful.

Above: we are watching for the mate.
Below: almost ready for felting.

Above: another hat with beautiful pom pom yarn. Below: our client has worked so hard on socks, double pointed needles, and has loved this sock yarn. These socks will be very special she has worked so hard and consistently on them.
Below: a new knitter. This is her first lesson.
Thanks to everyone who has written and thank you for all of the very kind notes. I read the notes during the knitting group and I show the clients our blog. What a great way to learn about the world and computers for many of our clients who have not had this exposure. One of our clients was telling me that she was at an appointment waiting, having her knitting, and having people admire what she was knitting. She said someone began telling her how knitting helped her through tough times. And so many of our clients tell us how it helps them. Thanks to everyone and we appreciate your kindness to us here at Interim House.
