August 18 and August 25, 2006

Here is Leslie's Buddy with his knitted dog bone!
Leslie knitted a dog bone for Buddy.
She's got it! I (the teacher) haven't even completed the one I started and my student is now knitting them in no time!
These two are my newest scarves thanks to Leslie's (volunteer & knitwear designer) inspiration.
this is the throw blanket with the size 35's!

She is knitting - it took a minute but she's got it and I wanted to capture it on the blog for her to see!

Here is Leslie inspiring us to make a sweater. She was asking the group if she should put a fuzzy yarn around the collar. The group mostly agreed to keep it off, the sweater is beautiful as is!

Our graduate client now turned volunteer at this knitting group is now doing cables!

This is a photo that inspired the words "WHAT A DIFFERENCE"! She loves her washcloth because it shows her her progress.

THE WORDS FOR THE WEEKS: WHAT A DIFFERENCE

These words are at the suggestion of one of our newest clients who said this as she displayed her first washcloth (first project) against one of her many scarves! Our clients have discovered size 35 needles thanks to someone who sent them on to us. They are creating many different and beautiful projects. The size 35's and doubled homespun yarn can turn out a beautiful shawl and scarves quickly! There is so much knitting going on and it is so difficult to capture it on photos because there is so much being created. One of our staff is moving on and the clients are working on a poncho for her. Each of them is knitting some rows so that when she leaves she can remember them and they are sending her good wishes as they knit this gift for her.

August 4 and August 11, 2006

The words for the past two weeks: New clients, Fast Learners, Purling, Persistence

We had a picnic in a park on August 4. Those who didn't swim brought their knitting with them. Those who did, didn't come out of the pool - it was that really hot week here in Philadelphia. We knitters didn't move from under a tree (it was that hot!)

On August 11 we had several new clients learning to knit. Here are some photos of what has been happening in the Interim House Knitting world.

Zelphia showing the clients how to make an intricate shawl! Zelphia has inspired so many of the women to make beautiful shawls!
We have a knitter who loves making scarves!

This handbag was inspired from the diagonal washcloth design. our client figured this out without a pattern.
One of our new knitters displaying her first project: a washcloth which I encourage everyone to start with.
This is Zelphia modelling a shawl made by one of our clients! They designed this pattern!
Our crocheted afghans are always popular!
Zelphia with the shawl again! She came with the perfect outfit to match it.

The diagonal washcloth pattern knitted into a baby blanket- above.

This is a scarf with different pieces of novelty yarn that was donated.
