Since my Grandma Wertz passed away on the 8th of Febuary, I thought that I would take this time to write out my memories of her and post some pictures.
One of my favorite memories of my grandma is going to her house and having her scratch my back. She gave the best back scratches. I remember that she would have me come sit in her lap in her brown rocking chair and tell me stories or talk to me about how my life was going.

I remember that she was always working on some art project. She was always making something out of yarn. She loved to make afghans, doillies, yarn dolls, and needlepoint. Every time that we went up as a family she would always have us help her, or give us our own project to work on. My mom still uses the hot pads me and Sean made as little kids.

Another thing that she had handy every time we came up to visit was toys. She seemed to have an endless amount of toys. I remember that I couldn't wait to play with the ping-pong ball launcher. For those who are family reading, it was that ball launcher that had a yellow basket barreled thingy with the maroon bottom that you hit to launch the ball. I also couldn't wait to play with all of the plastic tubes and containers that grandma would save, to build a tower. I also liked to play with the angle that she would hang up at christmas time. She also seemed to have an endless amount of games for us to play. I remember spending countless family gatherings in the basement playing with the games she had.

I remember spending the night there with grandma and grandpa. When ever I spent the night grandma would give me a choice to sleep in the yellow or blue room. I remember mostly choosing the blue room. I have a lot of good memories spending the night at grandma's. I remember one night that I spent there, there was a big thunder storm. I don't know how old I was, but I know that I was still afraid of lightning. I crept into grandmas room where she was waiting for me. She let me crawl into her bed and spend the night with her and grandpa. She kept my mind off the storm by singing primary songs and nursery rhymes.

One great memory that all of us grandkids love, is that grandma always had treat for us. She would always let us take a piece of gum from the bear cookie jar. She would also have oreo cookies for us to eat. She also would never let us leave without having an ice cream cone or a bowl of ice cream.
Another memory that I have is eating lunch with grandma and grandpa. Grandma would always have a salad with tuna and cottage cheese, topped with italian dressing. Eating dinner was great too. She would always have spaghetti, pot pie, or beef stew for us grandkids to eat. I miss her meals that she made.

The last couple of years have been really special for me. I loved spending time with grandma. I liked that I was able to return some of the love care that she gave to me throughout the years. I loved to sit and talk to her about her childhood and her meeting grandpa. One day she shared with me one of her favorite songs titled I love You Truly. I was able to find it and brought it over and played it for her. She would sit and sing along to grandpa and then give him a kiss. When she started getting worse with her eye sight and mobility, I would help wash her hands before and after dinner. She would always thank me and tell me how much she loved me. That is one thing I will never forget, that she was always so thankful and appreciative of everything we did to help her out. I am so glad that I was blessed to have such a great grandma.
