Beatles - Thank You Girl/Do You Want To Know A Secret (1964) [Italian single - imported from USA]

Year of Release: 1964
Country: Italy
Label: Vee Jay Records
Catalogue number: VJ 587

[Tracklisting]
1. Thank You Girl 2:01
2. Do You Want To Know A Secret 1:58

[Review]
This 7" 45rpm record was pressed in USA as an export edition for Italy. "Record imported from the U.S.A." is stated on the picture sleeve, prepared by Bluebell Records, it has silver prints on colourband labels and a red "BIEM" import duty sticker is affixed to one of the labels. "Thank You Girl" is the A-side. This is probably a second pressing from 1964 (first pressings have a green sticker and a different font type and later pressings have black prints on yellow labels).

Here you have a transfer from my original UK mono copy of "Please Please Me" (-1N/-1N), that you can compare to the 2014 reissue. A close inspection reveals that this is a fourth pressing.
"The Beatles' Please Please Me album was rush-released by Parlophone on 22nd March, 1963 to capitalise on the enormous success of the title track which had been the group's second single and their first no. 1 in the majority of UK charts. Ten of the album's fourteen tracks were recorded in just one day - 11th February, 1963. The iconic front cover shot was taken at the then headquarters of EMI Limited at 20 Manchester Square in London's West End in early 1963 by Angus McBean. Given that the UK album chart in those days tended to be dominated by more 'adult' tastes such as film soundtracks and easy listening vocalists, it was a surprise when Please Please Me hit the top of the chart in May 1963 and remained there for thirty weeks before being replaced by With The Beatles." Here you have a transfer from my original UK mono copy of "Revolver" (-2/-3), that you can compare to the 2014 reissue. This is a second pressing. The version of Tomorrow Never Knows is the mono regular version (remix 8), not the early withdrawn one.
"The Beatles' seventh album was released in early August 1966. Following the release of Rubber Soul the group had embarked on what was to be their final UK concert tour and following a lengthy break, they returned to Abbey Road to record continually for three months. The first recordings released from these sessions, engineered by Geoff Emerick, was the single 'Paperback Writer' and 'Rain' and those tracks gave an indication of what was to come." [Review]
"Animals is the tenth studio album by English rock band Pink Floyd. It was first released on 23 January 1977 by Harvest Records in the United Kingdom and by Columbia Records in the United States. It is a concept album that provides a scathing critique of the social-political conditions of late 1970s Britain, and presents a marked change in musical style from their earlier work. Animals was recorded at the band's Britannia Row Studios in London, but its production was punctuated by the early signs of discord that, three years later, would culminate in keyboardist Richard Wright leaving the band. The album's cover image, a pig floating between two chimneys of the Battersea Power Station, was conceived by the band's bassist and lead songwriter Roger Waters, and was designed by long-time collaborator Storm Thorgerson." (from Wikipedia).
Here is a transfer from the 2016 reissue of the album, remastered from the Original Master Tapes by James Guthrie and Joel Plante, 180-gram audiophile vinyl cut by Bernie Grundman.
This is the first "Phase 2.5" vinyl transfer by McCannon, which takes advantage of a brand new Marantz PM6006 integrated amplifier.

[Review]
Released on Record Store Day 2015 (April 18th), the Honky Tonk Demos feature four songs that were part of the original demo tape Dire Straits recorded in July 1977 at London’s Pathway Studios.
These four songs made their way to the desk of legendary BBC London DJ Charlie Gillett. On July 31, 1977 Gillett played the version of “Sultans Of Swing” here on his Honky Tonk radio show that led to the group being signed to Phonogram soon after. With three tracks previously unreleased, this double pack, mastered for vinyl at Bernie Grundman’s, is a true piece of history. The Honky Tonk Demos is a tribute to the early artistry of Dire Straits and the remarkable musical passion of DJ Gillett, who left us five years ago in March 2010 (from http://www.markknopfler.com).
This rip was released on Record Store Day 2015, I thought I'd "refresh" it, moving it higher in my feed, as it's a very popular rip of mine.

[Review]
Here is a transfer from my UK mono copy of "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" (the umpteenth transfer available of this album). This is a first pressing (without "patents pending" on the outer sleeve), so that anyone can compare the "real deal" to the mono reissue.
"Released on 1st June, 1967, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, the band's eighth album became the soundtrack to the summer of love but its appeal is timeless. Work had begun on the recording in late 1966. In the Britain the album hit number #1 and between June, 1967 and February, 1968 spent a total of 27 weeks at the top during an initial chart run of 148 weeks. All of this, in spite of a BBC ban on 'A Day In The Life'. In the US, the album was released in exactly same way as in Britain... well almost. The high-pitched tone and the garbled speech embedded in the UK run-out groove did not appear on the American release. The album enjoyed a fifteen week stay at the top of the US Top 200 albums during its initial chart run of 88 weeks." (from thebeatles.com)
"You've never really heard 'Sgt Pepper' until you've heard it in mono." (George Martin)
This rip was made a few years ago, I thought I'd "refresh" it, moving it higher in my feed, as it's my most popular rip ever.

[Review]
Here is the first album by the Canadian group Klaatu, released in August 1976, renamed Klaatu when released in the United States but originally titled 3:47 EST.
Maybe you know the story. The lack of biographical details and a Beatlesque sound here and there helped inspire a rumour concocted by Steve Smith (february 1977) that the album might be an anonymous project by none less than the Beatles. So the song "Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft" became a minor hit for Klaatu in 1977 and the track was covered by the Carpenters that same year.
Here you have a transfer from the Capitol version of the album (orange label, mastered at JAMF) in redbook and hi-res format. Hope you'll enjoy it.
This rip was made in Jan 2012, I thought I'd "refresh" it, moving it higher in my feed, as it's probably one of my best rips ever.

Here you have a transfer from my UK stereo "2-box EMI" copy of "A Collection Of Beatles Oldies" (-1G/-1G). This is a fourth pressing (take into account this is not the best pressing available).
"A Collection of Beatles Oldies (subtitled But Goldies!) is a compilation album featuring a selection of songs by The Beatles recorded between 1963 and 1966. The album was released in the United Kingdom and Australia in both mono (catalogue number PMC 7016) and stereo (PCS 7016). The album only reached No. 7 in the UK album chart, perhaps because most fans already owned most of the tracks on other releases. However, the album continued to sell reasonably well, remained in print for many years, and was only deleted when the compact disc age approached (and made obsolete by the Past Masters compilations). It was also the longest album that the Beatles had released to that point, totalling almost 40 minutes of music." (from wikipedia)

Here you have a transfer from my original UK mono copy of "Beatles For Sale" (-4N/-3N), that you can compare to the 2014 reissue. This is a first pressing (variation A).
"Beatles For Sale was released on 4th December, 1964 just 21 weeks after A Hard Day's Night. It was their fourth album release in less than two years. Beatles For Sale had been recorded on seven days scattered between August and October when their schedule was crammed with stage performances in the UK, Canada and the US and well as radio and television work. Given the lack of time it was not surprising that the group reverted to the 1963 formula of eight original songs and six covers. The album hit the UK number one spot and retained that position for eleven of the 46 weeks that it spent in the Top Twenty." (from thebeatles.com)
