Here is a quick pic of us riding the train.
Nate gets awfully thrilled by the rides and is not shy to show it in
public. A little more of these until my permanant ride arrives. (:

Standalone picture of the day
Not too sure about this one
I'm not too sure about this compay's tagline, well kinda depends on what you need delivered...
I saw it on the way in from the car park on a delivery van.
"Tiger deliveries.. we pounce on the parcel."

Restaurant City
my restaurant!
I can't remember the last time I enjoyed playing a computer game so much.. Actually, i've never really been into computer games.. but this one's special.. It's a Playfish game on facebook. You can set up your own restaurant, hire your friends to work for you and decorate the whole shop yourself. You've got to make sure you earn enough money and spend wisely though. The next challenging thing is to try and gain as many ingredients as possible, well, actually, there's a tactic to it. You've got to focus on that one dish that you've started and try to complete it's ingredients by trading it with your friends who are also playing the same game on FB. Everytime you do, it increases your Good ratings and helps to reach another level, which then allows you to hire more friends or increase the size of your restaurant... Sheesh.. almost complicating but hey... nothing better than some self entertainment when you're sick at home! I can't imagine what conversations will be like when you meet long lost friends on the streets but been liasing with them on restaurant city..."Hey man.. so when you gonna trade me your sausage for my milk?"Friday, June 05, 2009
Germ hotel
I feel like i'm living in a germ hotel right now. I feel the urge to vacuum the whole place and sanitize everything in sight. Nate has passed on the bug to the hubby and he's got it a lot worse than I. I on the otherhand, am fighting this strain. I feel weak but i'm trying to do a mind-over-matter thing.. if it's possible... maybe i should pray-over-matter instead?

Of being a photographer
My take from the Esplanade Theatre this evening.. the Cullberg Ballet
When I was young, well actually until today, I would watch a musical and i'd wish I could sing like the actors. When I read about fireman saving people, I would wish that I could be a fireman. When I see naval divers diving deep into the sea, I'd feel like signing on with the navy the very next moment. When I see a teacher being able to inspire, I'd feel like teaching is a very noble job. Today, I saw ballerinas, the very strong-in-the-core type of ballerinas, I wish I was at fit as them.
The thing is, i've always loved trying new things. I love learning new skills and meeting people from all walks of life. And the one thing I cherish about my job is that, being a photographer, allows me to meet all these people. And they give you a sneak preview to the things that they do and experience. So I guess being a photographer allows you a sneak preview into the lives of others. You kinda get a taste of the other side of life. It humbles you sometimes, but most of all, it never fails to inspire.
I felt a little under the weather this evening as i'm fighting the germs passed on from Nate who was very ill over the past week. Part of me really wanted to call off the shoot at the Esplanade this evening. I didn't have to cover this. It's an art feature. It's not news sensitive but after a good session with Geok Mei where she rearranged a couple of my muscles and IT band, i managed to muster up the energy to go for the assignment. The thing is, i'm glad i've learnt how to switch mindsets. If i'm going to spend the time travelling to an assignment, I might as well make the best picture out of the situation. And it definitely paid off.
Not only did I get a taste of modern European ballet, I managed to get a shot i'm slightly more than happy with.
If you're into modern ballet, catch the Cullberg Ballet from Sweden. They are here as part of the Singapore Arts Festival 2009 performance and will be on June 5-6, 2009 at 8pm.

Sorry about the earlier post.
Mind your necks.
That's what you get when a not so tech-savy person (me) tries to blog from her phone..

Nate on the job
On sunday evening, I felt really bad leaving nate at home again after disappearing for 3 WHOLE days covering the Shangri-la Dialogue or rather the IISS Asia Security Summit, so I took him out for a quick job with me, enroute to dinner with friends. It was a candle light vigil for Myanmar's opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi held at the Speaker's Corner. I figured he could run around the park and watch everyone while I shot pictures.
It wasn't planned but Nate ended up wearing the supporter's T-shirt colour: Yellow. He even had the yellow shoes to go with it. During the shoot, he sat with an elderly man, watching the whole vigil, some thought the two were related.
It wasn't that hard having him around, but if I had a choice, I wouldn't take him along again only because it's hard to concentrate fully and not worry about where he was running too. Doable but not a preferable situation. Oh well. So much for balancing motherhood guilt. There's a shot above, taken by Don Wong of Today.
