Two left feet

No, not about dancing cause i'm pretty sure I have a good sense of co-ordination.
But when it comes to leaving the house and packing my running gear at 5am, I'm not so co-ordinated.
After 20mins of debating in my mind about whether to sleep in or carry on with running plans, I left the home and reached Upp East Coast to find that I had accidentally packed two different shoes of the same side.
There was nothing I could do about it. Even if it were different pairs, different sides, I could have gone on running.. Oh Well.. ...felt like a total fat-head. (:

Getting on my nerves

That's me taped up to lift the muscles from my pinched nerves
Earlier last week, I started feeling numb in my last 3 fingers on my left arm.
I recognised the feeling and sure enough, it was an old injury which decided to re-visit me.
Apparently it was a pinched Ulnar nerve which caused me to lose sensation on my fingers and disabled me from picking things up and using any form of force on with my left hand.
The cable ski-ing gave my old injury a final push.
I managed to meet up with an old friend from Sports Council, Gino, whom I didn't really see for over 10 years. I couldn't help but be corny and said to him while he was giving me treatment,: "Gino? Guess what?! You're getting on my nerves!"
Padumpum.
The hand is fine now and it's all thanks to his not so torturous physio sessions. (: No more cable ski-ing for me.

Being photographed

Shot this during the Vivienne Westwood Autumn/Winter 2009 Collection Fashion Show
I'm so used to being the photographer, the one that's out of the picture, behind the scenes that I guess it's really easy for me to overlook the fact that some people do shy away from the camera when it's pointed at them. Some feel uncomfortable, some suspiscious. There were even times when I would nearly get into an argument with the subject i'm photographing because all I want to do is just get the assignment over and done with.. So what? No one is going to recognise you. Just be natural.. Don't worry you look ok... Before I get into impatient mode, I have to remind myself that if I was on the other end, I'd feel a little conscious as well. Just something I was thinking about when I brought my son to the clinic which is located in the hospital and I had to get my temperature taken during this Swine flu period. The only time i've been to a hospital during this swine saga was when I had to photograph people getting their temperatures taken.
This time, it was my turn.
There wasn't any media around but I wondered how i'd feel if there was some photographer there just snapping general pictures with me in it.
Uncomfortable. Which then got me thinking a little more about the people on the receiving end of my lens.

Excluded as usual

It gets really frustrating when the ministries here in Singapore choose to ALWAYS exclude the foreign media when it comes to giving press briefings or conferences. Like today's big big news that was even on CNN for hours about JI terrorist leader Mas Selamat Kastari being arrested in Malaysia. Any smart journalist will know to call up the Ministry of Home Affairs to get a quote or more details or even just to get THE FACTS RIGHT. As usual... phone calls were left un-answered and messages were not replied. There is NO way we can work like this. This is just one of many cases. There are other instances when we see something happening just out the window, like say, a ship sinking.. we call the Maritime Port Authority PR office and the first thing they say is : "Could you please send in your questions via email and we'll get back to you as soon as we can." - which means they reply you the next day.
We've asked why we (foreign media) are always excluded and lied too when it comes to press briefings.. They can NEVER answer.
Turn on the television an hour later and we see S.Ramesh interviewing DPM Wong Kan Seng giving a press briefing.
SUCKS.
and in the words of a friend, NOT VERY CLASSY.

Malaysia Boleh!

I remember lifting myself out of the pool when my phone rang the other day (this seems to happen with such immaculate timing of late) and I was told that JI terror suspect Mas Selamat Kastari had escaped detention center. As unbelievable as it seems, since Singapore is known to be super vigilant when it comes to security; it happened.
There were so many different versions of the story.. We also heard jokes made about how he has probably died during torture sessions and his escape was a cover-up for police.
So I guess he's not dead and managed to make his way across the causeway to Johor.
Now that is amazing.
So more than a year later, Malaysian police confirms Mas Selamat arrest.
With co-operation with our city-state of course..
Malaysia Boleh!..
Aiseh! Power la!

Conversations with my 2.5 year old

We were sitting in a ferry enroute to Batam when Nate striked up a conversation with me.
nate: "Mama, nate nate sit in the boat.."
me: "Where are you going?"
nate: "Nate Nate sit in the boat and go to moon."
me: "?.. Oh.. ok. And what are you going to do there?"
nate: "Nate nate go with mama, dada, to moon and buy food."
me: "What food are you buying?"
nate: "Go moon and buy honey stars."
He was so poetic without even realising it... buying honey stars from the moon... heh. I figured he'd been watching his TV series "The wheels on the bus" where the bus takes a mouse to the moon, to find his home. And the Honey Stars part comes from his recent favourite cereal. (:
