Mother Instincts

Ah Meng Junior, born in december 08 clings on to mother Anita
Ok. I've gotten complaints from my friends before over my tendency to compare my motherhood experiences with the monkeys at the zoo.. Let me qualify that i only do this because i get a lot of assignments at the zoo (haha) and everytime i shoot a baby monkey with its mother, i can't help but notice the similarities between all the maternal instincts and actions portrayed in front of me, and my lens.. They have a bond with their babies.. I guess when it comes to the protective maternal instincts, don't we become somewhat animalistic sometimes?

9 day old hawk monkey clings on to his mother

SO now moving on, I was at the zoo yesterday taking photos of brand new babies (orangutan and hawk monkey). They were extremely cute and as i was leaving my assignment, or rather leaving the zoo, i saw a taxi dropping off a family. Mother and young child and daddy.. i thought to myself "how i wish i could have taken nate along" I was thinking about it all day whilst at the zoo... wonderful weather, nate would love the zoo... yadda yadda when the lady called out to me... I didn't think i knew her but i waited just in case it was a mother i'd met before on assignment. It wasn't. It was indeed a fellow blog reader (who reads this blog) Louisa (sorry if i spelt it wrong) all the way from the UK... She's been reading nate's blog for a while and I never really thought i had any readers outside my circle of friends. All i can say is it was uber cool.... Thank you for saying hi louisa.. Kai, your son is so lovely. I think it made it all real for me that there is this whole community of mothers out there who read each other's experiences in writing etc. (ME INCLUDED) to find comfort or inspiration or just to pass time... So if you've been reading this blog, please do do drop me a line. I would like to meet you and get inspired by you! Hope you enjoy your trip here L.!

No punn intended

I went to the Zoo today and saw this... Nice Chinese New Year Feature, I thought to myself... and then... i had to restrain the urge in me from writing "Three men de-flower a cow.... in Singapore on Thursday Jan. 29, 2009..." in my AP photo captions.. of course if I were to do that, i'd be jobless right now .
pa dumpum.

Crowded new year

I've seen heaps of pictures from times like this but i've never gone to shoot it. It's amazing. Thousands of people go to the temple and wait to stick insence sticks into and urn, which is believed to be auspicious among Chinese Buddhist people. I had to work on the eve of Chinese New Year this year so i thought that this year, i'd do something i've never shot before. It made for some energetic pictures plus my sinuses got cleared from all that heat and ash. Ahhh i love these 30-seconds-of-madness-after-an-hour-of-waiting type of assignments.

End to the Flyer drama

Remember the other day, just before xmas 08 when people were stuck in the Singapore Flyer?
Well folks, it's working again and this is a shot of the giant observation wheel working again on the first day of the Chinese lunar new year.
Happy New Year peeps, God Bless You.

Wung Yew and gang organised a 100km ride round Desaru last weekend and it was awesome. The rolling hills left most of us tired but satisfied. I took my e-112 out for a spin and i am loving its aero position. The weather was beautiful and the breeze made training more fun riding upwind. New friends were made and most importantly, everyone was safe while having fun. (: I felt so good after that long long ride, made it home on time for work and reunion dinner.

Since Christmas

I realised i've not updated this blog since Christmas.. I've had so many things to say and write about but so little time. So now as i sit, feeling like a beached whale after a pretty extended and heavy Chinese New Year lunch with my very much extended family, I've decided that it's prolly the best time to look back on the past month and start digesting on all that's happened.. (:
Our Christmas celebrations were generally quiet with the usual Xmas eve dinner at Bryan's followed by Xmas dinner at my grandma's where we celebrate my aunt's birthday, that very same night. We've had a few long riding sessions with the gang and my training regime has kicked back into action.. After the low season, i can feel the aches and pains and everytime i start training i wonder why i do it. But when i'm finished, I'm glad i did it. Work's been great and I'm trying hard to be creative and really put in my best at every assignment i go to. I figured that if i'm gonna spend time doing something, might as well do it well. Friends have gone thru trying times, and i hope we've been able to comfort them when in tough times. It makes you think about your own life, your own story, your own life decisions. I've learnt that we need one another, and sometimes in our own trying times, we strengthen each other along the way.
There's been a lot of eating these couple of weeks. All the festivities are not helping the fat value. heh. But all in all, there has been a lot of merry making and catching up with family and friends.. I look forward to the festive season, every year. Though similar, people change, people grow and life becomes more interesting. It's not the celebrations in itself.. its the fellowship which i really treasure. ..As for now, i am distracted ... by more new year goodies and will follow up with more posts later.
