We've moved!

About 3km up North. And no, i'm not about to publish my address on the internet but those of you who used to send me stuff at Tagore Ave, we're terminating that address from now.

Old Upper Thomson Road

I wanted to blog about this on Sunday last, but didn't have the time til today when i flipped open the copy of Straits Times and saw an article about yet another car crash.
I run a lot through Old Upper Thomson Road and am loving that route... less and less each day. It's actually a really awesome route to run. In and out, takes you about 7km and if you want to do hill training, you can just break a left, if coming from Casuarina Road and enter the reservoir which gives you good training.
Unfortunately, it has become a rather dangerous stretch to run on. Firstly, there are too many monkeys hanging around the area because people REFUSE to read the signs which say "Stop Feeding the Monkeys". These monkeys have been known to bite children and chase runners because they expect to be fed. Everytime i approach 20 of them sitting on the road I have to say a prayer, that they don't chase or bite me.
Secondly, everyone thinks they are Singapore's Formular One driver. Seriously, it's become a danger zone.
Last Sunday, I was running back through that route from Casuarina Road and I got a small shock when a YELLOW HONDA JAZZ driver whisked past me very quickly. A little to quick for a one lane winding road. I shook my head and brought my heart rate down and after i turned the corner, i saw that same YELLOW HONDA JAZZ crashed into the trees. The driver was unhurt and was being helped out of her car. Good thing for HER. But i really wanted to tell her off when I heard her saying to other drivers who stopped to help her: "These roads are very slippery hor?" HOW DARE she blame the roads. I wanted to tell her that she was quite stoopid to be driving at that speed when the roads are wet from the rain. If you don't value your life woman, don't put others in danger. What if there were children or old people taking walks through there?
Today when i opened the papers, i saw news of 2 poly students, backseat passengers who died because the car that their friend was driving, skidded. I can't comment on who's right or wrong of if they were speeding of if it was an honest error of judgement but all i can say is accidents seldom happen unless you allow them to happen.
So these two incidents in less than a week is making me think very hard about changing my training route.
Sigh.
Roads like these are hard to find in Singapore now.

What a bummer

Never try to change your rear tyre tubes when you didn't plan on doing it in the first place because you end up with a twisted tube which translates to frustration and then more mess and another punctured tube. Never i repeat, change the tubing on impulse when you don't have too. Even if you've done so before in only a couple of minutes. Messy. oo.

Fever

Is it me or is the Facebook Fever cooling off?

Thank you aunty Lesley

Hi les.

Thanks for all the tops you bought Nate, including this Christmas Prezzie.

Did you realise all the tops you bought him are of the same shade of green?

And doesn't he look like 2 different persons here?

Paint me a butterfly please.

After about 10 years of thinking it through; i finally did it. With the support and blessings of my Hubby of course. So what exactly am i talking about..Well. I finally got my tattoo. Yes it took me 10 years to think about it and to make sure i wasn't just doing this on impulse. It also took me about 10 years to grow a little more and decided what kind of object i could live with for the rest of my life. Some people do it for feng-shui reasons or beliefs. I did it cause I love graphics and the arts. And I love patterns and have always been interested in ethnic things; shapes and forms through pictures and self-expressions. Also coupled with a bit of vanity and maybe 20% of rebellion. At first i thought a pixie would be great. I love pixies. They're playful, pretty and magically mysterious but i decided that i can't really ever get used to having someone's face or a face tattooed on my body. So it wasn't. I've always loved the beauty and gracefullness and intricate designs on the wings of butterflies and the whole metamorphosis of the butterfly from a caterpillar- process is just too cool a concept to ignore. Anyway so with a little bit of research and a lot of luck and advise of a good friend, Rashmi, i got an appointment with a really talented artist and got it done.
It was painful. Like a very bad sunburn (but that's the after effect)Painful but bearable. Halfway through i did ask myself why i was doing it... but only cause at some points the pain was quite acute. But when it got to the colouring bit, i was either numb by then, or it was really less painful.I initially wanted one on my ankle but decided on the right shoulder instead. yay.Terence was there with me, to document the process of course and give me moral support.I love every bit and detail of it and i don't regret one bit! Thanks for the snaps, Terence.

HRMed (pretty petty little trivias of human life)

So my husband who is ever so generous bought me two gifts this year...(maybe he starts to pity me after watching me give birth or something ... i dunno). He got me a heart rate monitor for my active lifestyle and another camera. The canon Ixy. I am so ever greatful and he has to know that presents or not, he's always my number one love. I felt a little torn when i received the ixy only because it hasn't even been a year since I got the Canon Ixus 850 IS from him as a birthday pressie. And i still love it. He wants to use that now so i don't feel too bad like i'm ignoring it.
Having said all that, I can't wait to see the advantages of heart rate training. At least i know i'm not over training or under-training. Necklaces and jewellery are nice but gadgets are cooler. I'm such a gadget freak. yay.
