Phew!

I knew this past week was going to busy.  Turns out, it was insanely busy.  It started with Sharing Time on Sunday morning that I felt ill prepared for.  Of course it was ward conference so the entire Stake Primary Presidency was in Primary.   Then my dear son, Matthew decided to share some choice comments during my Sharing Time (no stress).
Monday morning started with a call from the realtor that someone wanted to see the house.  That's good, but not so good when you were tired on Saturday and Sunday and let the housework go completely.   I got some grocery shopping done, visiting teaching and had home evening on Monday.
On Tuesday I met with the Moving Co. so they could see how much crap we have to move.  Trust me, it is a lot!  Then I had my math class from 4-8:30.  Oh ya, and Layne took Hyrum skiing and wasn't going to be back in time so I had to scramble to find a sitter.
On Wednesday, I went visiting teaching, took Hyrum to get his kindergarten shots (not fun) and then took him to Arctic Circle to help him forget that now his little legs were sore.  That night, the carpet cleaners came to work on some brown spots that didn't come out from a few weeks ago and talk about the fix-up job on our ceiling that happened as a result from a small flood they caused.  Then I made some brownies for a Realtors' Open House planned for Thursday morning and Layne and I cleaned the house.
Thursday morning, Layne and I scrambled to get last minute clutter put away, I got the brownies sliced up and headed to Target to grab some last minute things for the Blue and Gold Banquet.  Then I headed to the church where my sweet presidency helped me clean out and organize our horrible Primary closet.  It looks sooo much better.  Then we helped set up for the Blue and Gold Banquet which we served brownies at. (Ironically, I had purposely delegated the brownie making to someone else because I knew I would have a crazy week, but ended up making brownies still for the realtors!)  I decided since I'm moving soon, I should take advantage of hanging out with my girlfriends, so I headed to my friend's newly formed book club.  It was nice.
Friday morning I went with a friend to the Rec Center to let the kids play.  I felt like other than skiing, Hyrum hasn't done anything fun.   It was a nice break from the other craziness from the week.  Then I worked on getting things ready for Matt's pre-birthday party (3 months early just in case we won't be here for his real birthday).   Just as I was feeling like I had it under control and could survive my Saturday, a member from the bishopric called to ask if I had music set up for the Stake Baptism on Saturday morning.  Oops.  I totally forgot and had to spend an hour texting and making phone calls.
This morning, Saturday, I took the entire family to the Stake Baptism.  I wanted to go since I will miss most of the rest of the kids getting baptized AND they are the kids I taught in nursery and Sunbeams.   The baptism was nice, minus my grumpy boys.   Then we came home and got the last minute things ready for Matt's party.  I have to say, it was so nice that Matt is a boy.  First of all, he didn't care about decorations or cupcakes.   He only invited 4 friends.  I was very surprised at that....even 3 months ago, he was planning on inviting an army.  But, I wasn't going to argue when he narrowed it down to 4.   I planned some science experiments and Layne helped them make an electromagnet!  They had rootbeer floats, yoda sodas (lime sherbet with 7-up) and chex party mix.   It doesn't get much easier than that.     I will try to post pictures.   Afterwards I crashed on the couch for an hour and a half........but I made it through the week!

Tangled Emotions

During his meeting with the guy in Northern Washington, Layne got a call from Rocky Mountain Power (what are the odds!).   Layne has been looking on and off at different jobs for the past 3 years or so.   I love it here, so I've been convincing him to stay all these years.   But, deep down, I knew that this job interview might be different, especially after they did a phone interview and immediately wanted to meet and interview him in person.   Too bad Layne is so charismatic and likable!   Of course they liked him and as one of my friends said, "He's handsome, he doesn't smell of smoke and he's competent.  He will totally get the job."
I wasn't surprised when they offered him the job.  He has been offered 3 jobs in the past year, but none of them could offer him enough money to make it worth it.   So, I was pleasantly surprised when they offered him more money plus a moving bonus, a yearly bonus and relocation benefits.   We both prayed about it.  Layne feels confident that this is the job for him.   I felt peace that if Layne will be happy, this will be a good move for our family.   Although I have to admit, the Salt Lake area is on my list of Top 5 Places I NEVER Want To Live.  Go figure.
We decided to break the news to the kids on Saturday morning.   That went about how we thought it would....Kennedy bawled and said she would miss all of her friends, Matt ran up to his room and slammed the door and Hyrum just kind of whined that he didn't want to move.   Once they calmed down we told them a few good things about moving there.  The best reason is that they will get to see their cousins (my brother's kids) more because they live nearby.   Then we made a list of all the fun things to do within the Salt Lake area like Hogle Zoo, Temple Square, Lagoon, etc.
Later that afternoon, Kennedy came up to me and said, "Mom, I feel just like the girl in Tangled when she leaves the mean mom that's not really her mom and she's so happy, but she still feels bad and sad."   I think that's a pretty good way to explain it.  There are lots of exciting things, and lots of hard things.  I'm almost kicking myself for talking Layne into letting us stay longer as now I feel like I've made even stronger friendships and know the community even better.   So...it is definitely a bunch of tangled emotions:  sad, excited, worried, nervous, relieved (that is in reference to my current calling!)
The good news is, we are all coping.  Kennedy is coping by writing down all 21 of her friends' addresses and phone numbers and promising them that she WILL keep in contact.  Matt is coping with denial.  He's been saying things like, "I never really liked this house, let's buy a new one" and "I'm glad we're moving".   Hyrum started unloading his dresser and telling us which shirts to put in the suit case.  All he cares about is that we bring his stuff.   Oh to be 5-years-old again!

The $10 Chalkboard

Layne mentioned that he really wanted a chalkboard to write scripture verses on and hang it somewhere the whole family could see it.  I found this $8 frame at Michaels, had my dad cut me the chalkboard (already with chalkboard paint on it) and glued it together with wood glue.  I think it's pretty cute.  Apparently it's not manly enough for Layne, he's thinking of making his own with just a plain frame.  Fine by me.....I will embellish his rectangular frame with little banners or something.   Anyway, the little piece of chalkboard I used came to be about $2 or less.....so, a $10 project and very quick!

Curse you, Blogger!

Maybe it takes a few months to add new photos once you've deleted a bunch off of your blog; I don't know, but now I can't get photos onto my new blog - it is some sort of malfunction.  So, I will post pictures here for now and maybe there too if I can get it to work.  I guess I should be happy to be able to post photos here now, but it was somewhat of a pain to start an entire new blog.   Anyway, here are some photos I never posted from Thanksgiving with my family.  The nieces made crowns for all of us to wear to one of their performances.   I LOVED that they made a crown for the 6-week-old.  I was so spoiled to get to hold that little chubby cuteness quite a bit while we were there and she is such a sweet-natured baby!

Since, it's January, I started evaluating how my year had gone and what I had accomplished.   All I wrote for my New Year's Resolution last year was a quote I had found, "If it is important to you, you will find a way.  If not, you will find an excuse."    I put together some photos of what we did last year...things that apparently were important to us:  going skiing with the kids, swimming lessons, soccer, my girls' trip, buying a piano and getting Kennedy in piano lessons, visiting Yellowstone, family camping trips, going hiking, growing a garden, making homemade suckers, participating in Kennedy's Pumpking Fair and making gingerbread houses.   I was a little surprised at all we did as a family last year.  It was a lot of fun!

I knew I also wanted to get some more sewing and crafting projects done last year and again, I was really surprised at how much I really did get done.   Here are most of my projects that I finished: toy bags, toothbrush bags, baby blankies, Easter dress, ties, rossette wreath, skirts, p.j.'s, car seat cover, ponies, and a leopard costume.   The crazy part is I still have at least 3 sewing projects started that need to be finished!!!

Physically, and with the help of my trusty camera, it is easy to see all I have accomplished.  Spiritually it is a little harder to see.  However, as I've pondered on my relationship with my Heavenly Father, I feel like this past year, maybe even just these past 4 months I have really learned to accept God's will.   In the past, I have tried to convince God that He should bless me with certain things or I try really hard to figure out WHY things happen as they do.  But recently, I feel like I have really come to TRUST that God does know what's best for me and I don't have to understand WHY things happen the way they do or WHY He would want me to be the Primary President.  I am getting better at accepting; not perfect, mind you, but better.
