The Misadventures Down Under: Dae Jang Geum?

Had a productive afternoon in the library eating lecture notes. :)

Dad decided that I was malnourished and underfed ever since I came over to Melbourne actually I gained weight and that is not only because the gravitational field here is stronger... so took me out for dinner at Dae Jang Geum, a Korean restaurant in Chinatown. Had gotten lots of positive feedback from friends about the food there, and always wanted to try. But there was no menu on display outside the restaurant so I could never view the price and never had any courage to walk in... ._____________________.

 I like the wallpaper ^_^

We ordered japchae (glass noodles) , dolsotbab (direct translation: claypot rice?) and pajeon (pancake)

The rice came with some side dishes.

Sorry for the crappy photos but other people tend to look at you one kind once you whip out your phone camera etc... Or maybe it's just me being paranoid ever since I saw some stalker take photos of people photographing food... (Must... Get... Over... Paranoia...)

Oh well. The food was good, service was good, and price was much more reasonable than expected. Japchae was chewy and umami! Yes, umami is a taste, referring to pleasant savoury taste, I learnt in physiology :) Saved me from a recent memory where the japchae I had was really peppery :/ Pancake and rice were, OK. I think... They could do better with slightly more seafood in the pancake. And now I know where to go when my naengmyun cravings hit ^____^ Was surprised that they sell naengmyun here at the cheapest price among all restaurants I've surveyed...

I'm full ^___^ *Hic!* And I'm going back someday.

The Misadventures Down Under: Starchase at Burch & Purchese

Dad's here again :)

He reached Melbourne at midnight yesterday (or today? I have absolutely no idea which day midnight refers to... :/) , so I assumed he'd have no time to get breakfast things and bought a loaf of bread and some fruits yesterday to spring a surprise breakfast on him. That turned out well (Y)

After breakfast I dragged dad to South Yarra because I got scoop that Kylie and Julia from Masterchef were going to be at Burch & Purchese in South Yarra baking some sweets! :D Really really excited. Kylie and Julia were the "Dessert Queens" of Masterchef Australia 2012, and I would soon be sampling what they're baking *Squeakkk* Who doesn't love desserts? Especially when we're talking Top 6 finalists in Masterchef here, and Julia was the runner-up. I also heard that Ben and Andy were going and actually that was the main point (=.= Crap I am so going to hell for this...) It was a rainy blustery day...
*Siaozhabo mode on*...

Burch and Purchese is run by Darren Purchese, a really famous chef who knows his sweets.

So when we first stepped into the quaint little dessert shop, the first person I spotted was Kylie *starts to hyperventilate*
She was handing around a tray of dainty jammy doughnut pastries. The pastries were light and crunchy, and the cream topping was really light and fluffy. Not being a fan of cream, well, that changed my point of view. xD

Kylie is sooo PWEEEEEDYYYYYYY T________________T (Please kindly ignore my herpderpdurr face which I really wish to mosaic but am lazy to...)

The shop was a really nice, little and quaint... And today it was filled with people (Judging by the looks of the  sweets sold there reckon it'd be always this full...)

Tower of meringues standing on the counter... :9

Those cakes... (Must... Refrain... Self... From... Smashing... Glass...) *Looks at price tags* Oh... (Must... Refrain... Self... From... Smashing... Glass... Even... More...)

So I was going to walk to the back when I spot Julia handing out macarons :D

Those macarons... Insane... I used to think macarons were sweeeeeet little things which could dry up your throat due to the excessive sugar used, causing your throat to become dry due to the hypertonic external environment... Dafuq I just said... O.o Anyway Julia's macarons were just right, crunchy outside, chewy inside, and a nutty fruity filling :D Awesomeness... (Once again, please kindly ignore my herpderpdurr face which I really wish to mosaic but am lazy to...)

P.S. Julia is really tall... She had to bend down for the photo. Sorry Julia...

Sneak peek in the kitchen! Ooh, there's Darren Purchese with the blue piping bag.

After snapping some photos around we went back to the CBD. (I would have stayed there all day if dad hadn't pulled me out... I loved the little shop T_T and I wanted to see Ben and Andy in person ahahahaha...) Well, it was really really awesome to see Julia and Kylie in person, and to taste their creations as well, really inspiring too.

Dad said if I wanted to I could open a little dessert store next time. Yeah dad... Yeah... One moment you're asking me to open a pharmacy, another you're asking me to open a bakery... =.= But I'd much much rather run a bakery than a pharmacy... Oh no wait much much rather? "Much much rather" is an understatement. A very understated understatement...

So, my starchase ends here. Didn't get to see the champ? Doesn't matter. Had dessert xD

The Misadventures Down Under: First Taekwondo Training

我们大学只有一个奇奇怪怪不像篮球场也不像足球场,小到阳光普照,风和日丽的篮球场兼足球场 =_________________________________=

(今天才知道没有运动那么久,stamina 滚进沟渠了,一字马也开不了 T__________________________________________________T

The Misadventures Down Under: Random...

I am bored and I don't want to sleep...

Why so bored? Assignment not finished, presentation haven't done slides... They say the degree of boredom has a linear relationship with the amount of things to do and both increase proportionally... =____________________________=

This is miserable...

Hayden Quinn.

Google...

Cleo's Bachelor of the Year.

BACHELOR

*megusta face*...

Oh... Sorry...

屁股,我们哪里酱肤浅 =_____________________________________= 不过他屁股很翘是真的……

我想发扬我们炎黄子弟流传两千年的……(讲不出了)=_________________________________=

Much ado about nothing?

So... Ends a nail-biting game full of suspense. Once again Lin Dan nabbed gold and our Lee Chong Wei got silver. That moment he knelt on the court, I believe many (Yeah, apparently not all) fellow Malaysians shared that moment, what our badminton star was feeling...

During the medal presentation ceremony...

When he tweeted: I'm sorry

It was heartbreaking... I cried.

He did us proud no matter what. He was recovering from surgery, yet battled it out right to the finals and got this close to beating long-time rival Lin Dan. Once again we have witnessed such a close game which kept us all on the edge of our seats (I almost tore the sofa up...) and gave us so much hypertension tachycardia palpitations etc etc etc...

We're proud of you Lee Chong Wei! :)

And yet, there are some people who worry more about the public holiday and the free ice-cream, passing around rude remarks about not being able to get them.

Now I know why obesity is increasing in Malaysia... Thanks to shallow-minded idiots who care more about holidays and ice-cream than all that hell Lee Chong Wei has gone through to give such a good damn fight.

Who are you to pass these comments?

On the other end, there are people who are really "supportive" of our Datuk. Lin Dan had his little victory party after the game, which I think is pretty normal? Yet he was also unable to escape bad remarks by this group of people. I wonder why...

You win, you feel happy, you express it. That's normal isn't it? Sure, we all know Lin Dan and his victory parties, starting with him pulling off his shirt and flinging it out to the spectators, the salute to PRC, and an occasional few struts. Sometimes some people just find it a little too far-fetched and overreacted. But hey, it's the Olympics. You were in the fight which gave you one damned hell of a time, you have just bagged gold, you brought glory to your country, who wouldn't be happy?

You also criticize him of his sportsmanship. OK. We all know Lin Dan is a little cocky but he does have a right to be cocky. We can’t deny that he is a very talented player; we can’t deny that he has played a good game, he bagged gold and most of all we can’t deny that we enjoyed the game. Can't you just let him be instead of calling him all sorts of I-don't-know-if-you-are-even-allowed-to-say-that names? Although you might not have enjoyed his victory party, why the derogatory terms in the comments? Can they do anything to change the results? (Oh DUUUDDEEEE I'd curse every single cuss word which exists when I get bad grades if this was possible...) It just counters your statement and depicts us Malaysians as a bunch of sore losers. So why make such a big fuss? No wonder you're a sports watcher, not a sportsman, thank goodness too. I don't know how many athletes you're gonna murder every bloody time you lose to someone... I mean, turn this situation around. How would YOU feel if the PRC people did the same to Datuk? =.=

And anyway, I personally think Lin Dan is good-looking, and he'd be even hotter if he shaved. So stop calling him yongsui. No I do not side him.

Anyway finally once again, we love you Lee Chong Wei! You're a legend! We salute you!

Aww...
