Master Bedroom Makeover

Lately I have been longingly looking over beautiful master bedrooms on Pinterest getting ideas for when we purchase a house of our own. Our room right now was a kind of hodge-podge mess. Far from the escape or oasis it was ever suppose to be, it had become a kind of catch all room. That is until yesterday, while Brandon was napping a sudden urge came over me and I had to do something. I woke Brandon up and told him my plan to transform our room into a welcoming, restful, and clean place. He told me to go for it but my budget….$0. I was up for the challenge! I decided to take a few before and after photos to really capture the difference. I have to say looking back at the before photos I am quite embarrassed.  Brace yourself!

Chipping and raggedy bedside table. Pink and blue quilt that didn’t go with anything really and lots of junk piled up that needed to go to storage. (Clothes that didn’t fit and yes that is my trusty puke bowl by the bed. Pregnant girl problems!)

Drum roll please…..

This beautiful hand carved Oriental screen depicts the four seasons and also was inherited from Brandon’s Grandmother. I love the ambiance it gives the room at night with a little back lighting.

Panoramic bedroom

It is amazing to me what you can do with just rearranging furniture, de-cluttering and gathering a few meaningful items from around the house. I now have a lovely place to relax and I love it!

Thanks for stopping by.

Harleton VFD Open House

IMG_20130803_110825

Saturday was a splendid day because I got to go out with this handsome man and the boys to Harleton’s VFD open house. There fire station recently got a face lift and they invited the community to celebrate.  And celebrate we did with a ribbon cutting, fish fry, a gator bouncy house, and even snow cones!

The night before I completely used this outing as bribery for them to go to bed and it worked like a charm.

After playing in the gator for a while it started to get pretty hot.

But with a snow cone and a giant fan we were cool as cucumbers in no time!

Can I tell you a secret?

Haircut

Today…well yesterday really, I got my haircut for the first time in…

hairtwoyeargrowth

Don’t worry it was just a trim. While I loved that sassy pixie cut and there are days where I long for it to be short and easy, growing it out was quite the ordeal. I am really pleased with the length now but I have not the slightest clue how to style it long.

It just flips out like this naturally most days it is back in a pony tail. I am learning to love it and embrace what has been given me. If only I could get it to stop falling out by the handfuls. It’s a wonder you have any hair left at all Felicia!

Texture

IMG_20130803_151145

I know what your thinking…

Felicia are you serious it’s August you haven’t blogged at all since Christmas and now you come back with this!

Actually I am pretty sure that no one will probably read this other than myself and I am surprisingly quite content with that. Life has been up down and all over the place the past eight months. A few things had to give but I am now ready to come back to this place with my thoughts and I think I know myself a little better than before.

There is a funny story behind this fabric. A kind lady in my ward graciously passes clothes down to me after she regularly cleans out her closet to make room for her new pieces. She is an avid shopper and only has so much closet space and I am happy to help out where ever I can! Well she gave me this lovely pair of denim jeans but they were a little loose and extremely to long. So I did what any girl on a tight budget would do. I cut them up pinned them to fit just right while they were still on my body and couldn't get them off! Brandon eventually came in due to my screams and tears and saved the day. He  really is amazingly talented…Back to the jeans, I sewed them up into a really fun new custom pair of my first ever skinny jeans. I wore them a few times and really loved them until we started hitting the century mark for days on end. Then I cut them off at the knee and let them fray a bit and they are easily my new favorite go to shorts. I can dress them up or down and they fit just right. I wore them out today with my family and couldn’t help but think of all we have been through. It made me smile. I love the texture and color. It’s the simple things in life that can make you happy Felicia and I hope you slow down and enjoy them.

P.S. You look pretty hot in them too! ;)

Christmas Activities

We had a blast this season celebrating with some fun activities. The boys made Christmas trees, and wrote letters to Santa. Donaven even wrote a sweet letter to Jesus.

It sadly didn’t last very long, the walls caved in and daddy’s fire truck quickly arrived on the scene to save the day! Smile
