The Red White and Blue Blog Hop

The Red White and Blue Blog Hop !!!!!!!!!!

 And I'm first!!

My block is called Formal Garden and you will need three different fabrics:

For:                   Cut:                 Need:                               Size:

             a.                    4 squares       8 half square triangles    4 7/8"
             b.                    4 squares       8 half square triangles    4 7/8"
             c.                    1 square         1                                 4 1/2"

For my block, I chose blue and white for a. and b.  Cut your squares from blue and white 4 7/8".  I cut one 4 1/2" square from the red.
Place one of each blue and white block right sides together, draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of the white one and sew a scant 1/4" on each side of the drawn line.  Cut on the drawn line creating eight half square triangles of blue and white.  Piece as shown in the completed block with the red in the center:

I added a light weight batting and muslin backing, basted, hand quilted and then added binding.
The finished block is twelve inches square.

If you are interested in winning this little Red, White and Blue mini quilt, tell me about your Fourth of July plans or what you did and I will draw a name when I return from my retreat late on Sunday July 8th and send it off to you!

Showing off some ruffles!

Look who stopped over to splash in the lake:

I'm sure the giggles could be heard across the water!
Do you recognize this little ruffled romper?  It's much cuter on her than on a hanger!

My Birdie Stitches is entered in the Quilting Gallery weekly contest for Embroidery/Stitchery quilts.

Go HERE if you want to vote on any four (maybe mine?)!!

Have a wonderful weekend.

Dolling Up the Four Year Olds

Two of my sisters decided their four year old granddaughters need some frilly new summer dresses and bags.

They chose everything (Such A Girl pattern by Little Londyn and "barklay snail" fabric by Alexander Henry Fabrics Collection 2010)
and I did the sewing:

The headbands are not finished, but it's been so long since I posted, I wanted to get these on before everyone forgot I still have a blog!
If I get a photo of either one of them in their dress (one is in Texas) I'll be sure to post it.

Typewriters, Pigs & Dots

I really liked the last 241 Bag (a Noodlehead pattern) I made but wanted to made another with a few changes.

  • First, I wanted it just a little larger, so I moved the main pattern piece over about 3/4 inch from the fold making the bag 1 1/2 inches wider.
  • Second, I thought mine got a little "limp" after I used it a while and washed it, so I added fusible fleece to ALL of the lining pieces in addition to the fusible interfacing on all the main fabric pieces.
  • And last, I needed TWO pockets on the interior to stay organized so I added an extra pocket to the other side of the interior.
Here is my Typewriters, Pigs & Dots 241 Bag:
