BOUQUET OF SUN - The Joys of a Sketchbook

BOUQUET OF SUN
Watercolor - 11x14

There are many benefits to keeping a sketchbook where you can try out color schemes, painting styles and composition ideas. You can take it with you outdoors to sketch, take notes and record your impressions of the day. Some pages will look like finished work while others will just be a collection of shapes, smudgy sketches and random blobs of color.

If you are feeling stuck in your creative journey or not in the mood to work on an 'important' piece then just pull out that sketch book and start playing. Or better yet, take it outside and look for inspiration.

COLORS OF THE WIND - Abstract Art

COLORS OF THE WIND
Acrylic - 14x18

I have started to experiment with abstract painting using acrylics and occasionally some collage. It is alot of fun but also very challenging. I think my favorite part is that you can keep layering on paint until you have a composition you like and use any color scheme you want.

WILD FLOWERS & Tissue Paper

WILD FLOWERS
Watercolor - 11x14

I had a great time painting WILD FLOWERS. I first wet the paper and then lay crumpled tissue paper on top. I spritz the tissue with water and then randomly painted bright colors all over. After it was dry I lifted the tissue paper off to reveal a wonderful, textured base of color. Using negative painting I created the flowers and leaves for a very free form floral piece of art!

Mixed Media Monday - AUTUMN GROVE

AUTUMN GROVE
Watercolor Collage - 14x18

I began this painting using watercolor to create basic shapes and areas of color. I then used different collage papers - rice paper, scrapbook paper, printed tissue paper - to glue on and add more color, texture and design interest. Pure creative fun!

COLORS OF THE HEART & Getting In The Zone

COLORS OF THE HEART
Watercolor - 15x20

There is often a period during the creation of any painting when you feel like you are in the zone. You let go of any preconceived ideas and give in to the flow of the paint. As you shift to your right/creative side of the brain you almost enter a trance where color and shape and the movement of your brush take over. The pure joy of creating - it feeds your soul, warms your heart and brings much joy to your life!
