Road Trip to Hungary
i'm back from a week in Hungary to visit relatives and friends. as is the custom, we came back with a trunk load of apples, pears, figs, leftovers, pickles, jam, canned fruit, tomato sauce and "ribizli szirup" - a homemade drink consisting of red currants and sugar, which is added to sparkling water. this is Margit Sziget (island). we had great weather and really enjoyed the beautiful fall colours.
we joined some friends to watch (and eat as many pumpkin and sunflower seeds as possible) the national soccer game against Albania. Hungary won.
on the way there we made a stop in Munich for Oktoberfest. we couldn't get into any of the beer tents after waiting in line for a very long time, as they were all full. next year, will definitely be reserving tix. did have a beer in the beer garden though and was amazed that, as shown on the posters, the ladies really do carry like 10 mugs of beer at a time!
on the way back we followed part of the "Romantic Road" through Germany, and visited Rothenburg ob der Tauber. i'd really recommend this pretty, quaint town as a day trip, and if you're in the market for Christmas stuff and teddy bears. i loved these guys - and they're incense burners! cute and functional!
check out these big fellas! these are "schneeballen", basically balls of pastry. i found them a bit dry, so i'd suggest the marzipan one.
