The week before our little girl was born I decided I should probably take it super easy because I was hoping I wouldn't have the baby until my mom arrived on July 24th at 10:50am. The plan was for me to pick her up from the airport, meet up with Mark for lunch and eat something extra spicy, go on a long walk, eat something spicy for dinner, and probably go on another walk in hopes that #2 would arrive soon. I had noticed that going on walks and even just being on my feet doing housework for too long made the contractions start, but as soon as I laid down to rest they would stop. So I had made it to the 23rd and decided it was safe to do housework so our place was all clean and ready for my mom's arrival. I got the place all cleaned and went to bed at midnight. About 15 minutes after laying in bed my water broke. Even though they say to go to the hospital if your water breaks, I thought that for some reason I would wait it out and hopefully still be able to pick up my mom from the airport and then go to the hospital. At about 3am my contractions were about 5 minutes apart so I called the nurse at my doctor's office. She got my doctor on the line and I was instructed to go to the hospital and get checked out. So I told Mark and he immediately jumped out of bed, got his clothes on, and gave me a hard time for once again not packing a hospital bag. I packed my bag and called my visiting teacher. Her husband came over to stay with Owen. (Thank you Devin and Andrea!!)
We got to the hospital at 5am. They took me back to make sure that my water really did break and I didn't just pee my pants. Turns out it was broken. I had to wait a bit for them to get a room ready for me. While I waited the contractions started getting a little more painful. I was excited when the nurse finally came back to take me to my room. They got me all hooked up to all the monitors and then my contractions pretty much stopped and I was only 1cm dilated. With Owen my contractions were right on top of each other even when they gave me some drugs (can't remember what it's called) to slow things down. So it was weird to have contractions and then suddenly not have any at all.
Then came the pitocin. Contractions started almost immediately. I waited a while then decided I wanted to get the epidural before the anethesiologist got called into a c-section or something like last time. I don't remember what time it was when I got the epidural, but I do remember it was a new anethesiologist so he had to have someone watch him to make sure he did it right. Real comforting. We watched movies on TV while we waited for what seemed like forever! I was so bored. Then finally I started to feel like it was time to push. So the nurse checked me and I was at a 10. She went to tell the doctor. We did some practice pushes for what seemed like 3 hours (no idea how long it really was). I could feel a lot more than I wanted to. It wasn't painful with Owen. Just uncomfortable pressure. This time it was uncomfortable pressure and SO painful. It took a while to get #2 in the right position. Instead of being face down like she was supposed to be she was sideways, which apparently makes it harder to push her out.
Jovi Kelly Crockett made her big debut on July 24, 2012 at exactly 4pm weighing in at 7 pounds 12 ounces and 19 inches long. She was born with lots of blonde hair!
So far Jovi is amazing. Good eater, happy baby, and great sleeper! She started sleeping 7-8 hours at night at about 1 week old. She has now progressed to 8-9 hours. Jovi is a good napper and loves to go outside on walks. She likes to coo and smile at people or at nothing at all which makes me wonder what she is thinking about.
Owen loves Jovi. He gives her hugs and kisses constantly. He loves to give her her plug (pacifier) even if she doesn't want it. I'm excited to watch them play together when she gets older.
We love our little Jovi!
