Microsoft, Yahoo, Google, Youtube, Facebook

There have been alot of news about the social networking sites, Facebook recently, probably due to the fact that it has attracted offers to buy it for as high as 1.5 billions.

Facebook is a social networking site, that was started by Havard student. And the site is set to be even more popular in the next few years. It's the "in" thing now.

I realized a stark similarity in all these web/technology company, companies like microsoft, yahoo, google, youtube (now owned by google) and now facebook.

It seems that all of them are started by some american university teenagers while still studying in the campus. And their intial headquarters was probably their garage. And as their product/services become more and more popular, they struck it big, both in terms of money and the influence they had over people.

It is amazing how they manage to have such ideas in their head that later proved to be a hit. For example, youtube's idea of a video-sharing service was a big hit, as anyone anywhere on earth with internet access as upload their videos online and share it. The ease of usage, requiring a internet browser with flash plug-in and the relatively small file size has also made the experience a very pleasant one. News of the site was spreaded through online word of mouth and almost everyone you know starts logging on to the sites to find interesting videos, and share it with friends. Soon, Youtube was bought over by Google for US$1.65billion in Google shares.

Shit man, why don't such ideas pop up in my head?

chomp it!

Due to some last minute twist of events, my friends and I finally dragged ourselves down to chomp chomp for supper on Saturday night after like discussing what to do for the whole evening.

It was hilarious, all of us rushing to take the last bus to Serangoon Gardens.

We reached there around midnight, a few stalls have already closed, but majority of the stalls were still open, our gamble paid off.

After finishing the "not-so-great" hokkien mee and stingray ( we ordered from the wrong stall, the rest though was still as good, eg carrot cake, satay, chicken wing), we hanged around the seats outside cartel and some staffs from the wine shop beside it was giving us subtle signs when they switched off the lights and fans in the big canvas tent.

Suddenly someone suggested that why not we walk to serangoon (zhss/nyjc area), grab some drinks and find some windy spots. (Its stuffy under the tent) And so, we walked further into the private estates of terrace houses, with some luck and going towards the tall flats that we could see, we found some pedestrian tunnel under a vehicle flyover, from what it seems to be CTE.

At the end of the tunnel, guess where we were, ta-dah, Ang Mo Kio Ave 3. It's so damn near, only about a 15-20minutes walk and we walked damn real slowly. We totally deviate from our actual target, ahaha, and there are actualy two recee-trained nsfs in our midst.

Anyway, we went to someone's house to sleep for the night, after some cha-xiao-ing at the 7-11 at AMK Ave 3. By the way, we saw rats there, not one but three, rats scrambling around, jumping into rubbish finding . . . garbage.

When I finally woke up, it was already ten am, and it was raining heavily. Maroon 5's Sunday Morning suddenly started playing in my mind. One of my favourite songs . . .

Everyone finally woke up at noon and after two episodes of CSI, we finally dragged ourselves out for lunch.

Maroon 5 - Sunday Morning

" Sunday morning rain is falling
Steal some covers share some skin
Clouds are shrouding us in moments unforgettable
You twist to fit the mold that I am in "

Ah, Sunday mornings.

Sleep-Deprived

I found myself getting more and more grouchier, this is most evident when I wait for the transport to commute from home to camp and vice versa. Due to lack of sleep I often drag myself out to camp and often went out late. And with the excellent transport system we have, I often end up swearing under my breath as I wait rather impatiently for the bus/mrt. Our transport system is soooo good that I have to transfer 3 times to get to camp and if im unlucky(which usually I am) I will wait up to 10 minutes for each bus , a grand total of 30 minutes. 30 minutes spent waiting for buses/mrt . . .

Then I realize that after a long tiring day, when people talk to me, my temper will flare up for no reason.

And when I take bus 72 home from Yio Chu Kang MRT station, I would stand in the line, eyes half closed, in low energy state, stomach growling. To make it worse, I often see empty 72 buses going off towards the depot nearby as I wait in the queue. The queue gets longer, the wait gets longer and I see more empty 72 going to the depot and I get more dulan.

But why am I so sleep dreprived? I only got myself to blame. I went for midnight movie on Sunday morning, ton till 8am, slept for 4 hours then went out for lunch with the guys again. I was knocked out when I got home. Due to a tremendous lack of discipline, I would only sleep at 1am later. Then on Tuesday, I had to readjust myself for morning shift. I was practically knocked out on my duty on Wednesday.

Tomorrow will be Friday.

TGIF man.

Off

I was lucky to get an Off today.

能睡到自然醒的感觉真好.

Song.

But it rained the whole morning and it's still dark and gloomy during noon.

It always rains on my off days and not when I work.

Argh.

Cannot go out, trapped at home, another off day wasted.

Why does it always rain on me?

Jason Bourne

I just caught the three bourne movie, back to back yesterday. A few of my friends gathered at someone's house and caught the first two movie in the afternoon, before proceeding to cineleisure for the third flick.

All three movies was great in my opinion, with numerous fist fights, crazy car chase at busy streets, gun fights and clever tricks used by Bourne to outsmart the CIA. And his ability to speak numerous languages, French, German, Russian, English and his ability to think on his feet and makes plan on the go never fails to amaze me throughout.

All three shows often shows the CIA operatives in their HQ, viewing Bourne on the numerous CCTVs around the city. Using technology to dig out every single information about their targets, phone, immigration, taxes, housing, credit card bills etc. I wondered how much real privacy we now have, with all our virtual, physical trails seemingly easily trackable with a few clicks of the mouse.

The 3 bourne shows are highly recommended, they aren't just the normal hollywood actions flicks with over the top actions, explosions and mayhem throughout the shows. Watch how bourne uses both his brains and brawns to find out about his identity.

One bad point though is the shaky camera effect used when filming the action scenes, which makes the action somewhat unviewable.

It was Teachers' Day yesterday?

I had my duty on Thursday and it finally ended on Friday morning, left the camp a zombie. On the way home, I saw many school-going teenagers in their uniform, hanging around the mrt station. I wondered what's the ocassion today. Then suddenly realised Saturday would be Teachers' Day and Friday was probably a half-day for the students. Until that moment, Sept the 1st was RSAF Day as far as Im concerned. Haha. NS has indeed taken over my mind and soul.

There was a supposed class gathering at my secondary school with my former form teacher. I didnt went though. I heard from some of them that it was fun as they talked about the old times. One of the funny things I did in lower secondary was even brought up. Lol.

What was your secondary years about anyway? I guess the recurring theme in all of our secondary school years was about our classmates and friends and of course our teachers.

Quite a few teachers (especially my upper secondary English and Chinese teacher) from my secondary school years had left a deep impression on me. While some teachers often become the butt of our countless jokes. There are of course some, whom we curse and swear at. Even till today . . . haha.

Happy Teachers' Day.
