Losing our traditions

端午节 is coming soon. Prices of the glutinous rice dumplings have already started increasing. I noticed that our chinese festival always seem to be related/associated to some kind of food. Some of the traditions/culture that our ancestors brought over from China years ago had evolved over the years to become more of a Singapore thing.

新年 - 肉干，pineapple tarts, etc (think its more of a Singapore thing)
端午节 - glutinous rice dumplings
冬至 - Tang Yuan
中秋节 - mooncakes

My maternal grandmother used to always wrap the dumplings herself during the 端午节 period when I was still in lower primary. My relatives, cousins and I will then gather at her house on one of the Saturday. When I entered the house, I would see her sitting in the kitchen, busily wrapping/preparing the dumplings. That scene is now still very vivid in mind. And of course, I always enjoy the eating part, hahaha.

But sadly, she doesn't do that anymore. Partly due to her getting older, and wrapping dumplings is a tedious job. You have to prepare the fillings, chop the meat, cook it. Then come the diffcult part, wrapping the rice, the meat into a neat pyramid using leaves.

I thought wrapping rice dumplings will be a fun activity for the whole family, but the preparing process probably puts us off.

Interestingly, there is a "粽子” entry in wikipedia.

Gloomy Sunday Afternoon

The wind entering my room seem to smell strangely like sea breeze . . . another week has passed, so what have I done in this particular week?

I did the same thing I do every day for the past 5 weekdays. Sometimes it gets so routine that I feel so sian halfway through my routine checks. The "wah-lau-damn-sian-dun-care" attitude starts to surface.

I just slacked at home and do nothing on Saturday and Sunday. The planned basketball was cancelled due to the appalling lack of participants. I managed to meet up with my other friends on Saturday night though, just goofing around the suburban areas.

My room is still in a mess and I haven't tided up yet. There is still the wireless router that I havent yet buy and still haven't get to finding the problem with my dvd-burner.

Yet another week spent procrastinating.

Anyway I got hyped up by the upcoming Transformers movie, seem that it will be a cool action flick especially when we used to play with transformers toys and watched the cartoons when we are still kids. The Transformers toys were once the coolest toys you can have, transform and you get a vehicle, transform again and you get a fighting machine.

TGIF

Today was not a bad day, the late morning-afternoon shower allowed me to nua until the afternoon. After launching the plane, the shift came and took over. Not a bad day.

Anyway it seems ages since kelvin and zhencong blog here, it's more fun when you see different entries/viewpoints by different people. Coincidentally, it seems eons since I last saw zhencong. He liked disappeared from thin air.

But well, cant be helped, as we all move on to different paths, it's harder to meet. But strangely, I have been able to meet up with my sec sch buddies regularly. Shrugs, I don't know man.

I read from yx's blog that cheryl is coming to visit us in june? It will be nice to hear from her again.

I just cant seem to find the discipline to exercise regularly. Most of the time I just find excuses to nua at home and somtimes I wake up early but managed to convince myself that im tired and went back sleeping again. Im getting way too lazy. But I want the cash.

Maybe I'll try tomorrow.
