For his fourth studio album, Amp Fiddler returns to fellow Detroit native Moodymann’s Mahogani Music for ‘Amp Dog Knights’ a suite of 13 tracks A&Red and co-curated with the house & techno luminary. It was recorded at his ‘Camp Amp’ studio basement in Detroit, another chance to catch the vibrations from a master who learnt his instrument playing with George Clinton. ‘Those guys that were amazing musicians, no one else had the style like that; everyone else was just basic shit. They played rhythms no one else played’ say Amp.
Amp was instrumental in putting Detroit on the map for hip hop, by using his first advance to buy an Akai MPC60, then teaching the teenage J Dilla how to use it. His new record features 2 tracks co-produced by Dilla. The tracks date from a famous Zip disk that was stolen from him and recovered by Amp. Dilla then gifted him the beats to use by way of thanking him for his mentorship. Track ‘Return Of The Ghetto Fly’ also features rapping from Slum Village member T3 as well as vocals by Neco Redd, completing a track that is the very soul of Detroit. ‘It’s Alright’ is featured in three versions on the album with contributions from another Slum Village member - Waajeed - as well as frequent Theo Parrish collaborator Ideeyah. ‘Those are my friends’ says Amp of his local collaborators, ‘I love the way they work, I love the way they do things’
‘Amp Dog Knights’ continues with tales of the Detroit player known as the ‘Ghetto Fly’; inspired by sharp-suited characters from the neighbourhood of his childhood who ‘dressed like The Temptations every day and had attitude when they walked, they were almost dancing’. Across the record there are stunning P-Funk rock jams like ‘Put Me In Your Pocket’ with guitarist Chris Bruce, as well as 4/4 soulful steppers like ‘I’m Feeling You’. ‘I Get Moody Sometimes’ featuring Moodymann is a shimmering electronic funk number tailor-made for the label head’s eclectic DJ sets. ‘Amp Dog Knights’ is the second album in 2 years following Amps break from music since 2006 following personal tragedy in his family including the death of his son. Now he’s back he wants more - more people to hear the music and the message. ‘I want to hear it in shops, when I am at the airport, I want to hear it everywhere’. Amen.

Killah Priest and 4th Disciple are a couple of Wu-Tang Clan affiliates who have always put the quality of the brand over any type of notoriety. Both sharply skilled artists instantly attracted fans for closing out GZA’s classic Liquid Swords in style on the song “B.I.B.L.E. (Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth).”

Shortly after, Killah Priest went on to drop Wu-adjacent projects and join the “original Slaughterhouse” b.k.a. the HRSMN supergroup alongside Kurupt, Ras Kass and Canibus, and 4th Disciple would spend a chunk of the 90s getting confused for RZA for the groundwork he laid for various members of the Clan. (Not like that’s a bad thing.)

For the tail end of 2017, the two have joined forces for the duo album, Don’t Sit On the Speakers (Vol. 1).

Jam Baxter, Ed Scissor and Ghosttown spent the Summer of 2012 penning songs in Holloway, North London. In the same short few weeks that Team GB bought glory to the capital, the trio lay the foundations for LAMINATED CAKES; an album inspired by the unhinged, non-stop and totally uncontrollable hedonism that defined that particular summer.

It was a good one.

If anything, Laminated Cakes is a wondrous time capsule; five years in stasis, but still fresher than the laminated confectionaries that inspired the movement.

Это сотрудничество началось ещё во времена, когда Raw Poetic был рэппером из Panacea, а Damu развивал сольные проекты после успеха альбома Y Society. Сейчас первый превратился в самостоятельного исполнителя с собственным продашеном и даже живым инструменталом, а второй всё также постит биты в интернет, иногда в качестве исключения радуя спелыми релизами, вроде второго альбома с Insigh, который, к слову, был записан давно. 

Raw Poetic уже как-то присоединялся к Damu the Fudgemunk на его EP "Kilawatt", было это давно, и треков там было не так много. То, что у этих двоих за столько лет так и не завелось полноценного совместного альбома - из разряда недоразумений, что немного поправили эти 8 треков, над которыми оба поработали в разных амплуа.

As music continuously evolves, times change and new ideas and movements come & go. All of this functions in tandem with scientific, technological, social and political advancements in our society. The biggest component to that evolution is the people. There are creators and consumers. One cannot exist without the other. Throughout art, the audience defines quality, but artist has the power to introduce change and shift perception. Execution is key. The masses are always hungry for something fresh. Sometimes we're at the forefront of new trends and sometimes we find comfort innovating the past. No matter what, musicians have a responsibility to bridge the gap.

Raw Poetic and Damu the Fudgemunk meet all of the above. Produced entirely by the artists, the new album "The Reflecting Sea" revisits sonic textures of yesteryear and combined with their own distinct ears for music, have created something uniquely foreign for the music world in our time. Speaking of the times, Raw Poetic's lyrical subject matter is nothing short of relevancy. Speaking from an observatory perspective in addition to his own personal experiences, the album's content is infinitely relatable.

Although known primarily as hip hop acts, both Damu and Raw P stretched out to expand what the genre is known for. The combination of elements from the mix of live instrumentation, improvisation and sampling to the range of styles including jazz, fusion, rock, electronic and soul make The Reflecting Sea unlike anything else. Captured and recorded in it's rawest form, the album is honest expression. Masterminding the festival sounds is Damu the Fudgemunk. His voice is absent from the recordings, but his presence is immediately noticed throughout the 40 minute exhibition. Packed with tons of beats, tons of scratching, original compositions, upbeat and signature atmosphere, there's no question who's behind the boards. With the average tempo of over 100bpm, this is one of the most energetic releases in Redefinition's catalog. Raw P and the Fudgemunk aim to revitalize listeners of all types with their original sound. They call it "The Reflecting Sea: Welcome to a New Philosophy."

Raw Poetic (MC), hails from the DMV area by way of Philadelphia. In addition to several collaborations with Damu the Fudgemunk, he's recorded 6 albums as a member of Panacea, 1 album with K-def, 1 album with Kev Brown and recent features with Brous One in which all have been met with critical acclaim.

Damu the Fudgemunk (producer/DJ) is a DC native who co-owns and operates Redefinition Records. With several successful releases as a solo artist, his music has garnered a reputation in the last decade for it's consistent quality and conceptual structure.

Description:

Chuuwee changes the pace of his “Dystopia” series with the intermission album “Sabbath”. Created as a spin off from the series, the album focuses on Chuuwee's “day off from creation”.

“It’s a lot of pressure and even more madness going on in America right now and as I stated before I want the album series to start getting really really dark. But before I turn the lights out completely, I wanted to give people something fun and light to go in with. Part 003 is going to be very very dismal” Chuuwee says.

“Sabbath” features only Sacramento artists including Casual D, Anton Xavier, Tavis, Abstract Ninjaa, Ronin VII and Nate Curry. Production on the album contributed by Money Montage, Chris Rose, Slept Jeezy, Shae Money, Saltreze and ApolloTONE to name a few.

Earlier this year Chuuwee released the first two parts of the “Dystopia” series. Part one “Paradiso” (March 24th) focuses on the ideology of what paradise is or means to us as people, while explaining the purpose of existence from an existentialist perspective. Part two “Purgator” (July 14th) takes a darkened turn for the worse, displaying a showcase of manic depressive and self-conscious viewpoints of one’s own success and outlook toward in a nihilistic view point of the age of question that everyone has been asking, why am I alive?

Lastly Chuuwee adds “the storyline of “Sabbath” foreshadows parts 003 & 004 of the “Dystopia” series”.

In his teens Chuuwee was already destroying local poetry slams with his rhymes.
