Well here we are at the end of 2016 and the Martian XMAS series is still rolling. It's funny when I think back to when i did the first one in 2004, I had no plan on making it an annual custom but it has become just that and is always one of my more stranger efforts out of my catalog. This one definitely nods heavier to the nineties. The jazz is thick, the terminology and phrasing is to be noted as a bastion of that era as well. I don't think we were done with that era, we moved on too quickly. Anyhow that's the energy I'm from and I do stay connected to it. Pacific northwest winters are notedly different than winter anywhere else on the continent. At times it's hard to tell if it's really winter at all but on some years such as now it is extra soggy and dreary. Those are ingredients that seem to bring the best out of the martian editions. Umbrellas, Carhartt, Boots, Northface, Coffee, crosstown traffic, low clouds, grey beach scenes and more coffee, home studio, it goes on. I started this year's martian a little earlier than normal because I wanted it ready for a late November release. No guests this time around with the exception of my man Chin who laced the best for 'The Wish'. I added a little extra synth and some audio clips and singing vocals paired with his. The track 'Bread and Butta' is actually a leftover track from last year's martian, but I felt it didn't fit the format for that one. It works here perfectly. You'll definitely note there is a healthy presence of upright bass samples. I'm back on that shit for real. All jazz all day, you know how i do. Anyhow in keeping this brief I hope you’ll enjoy and keep this rocking beyond the holidays. It's for the winter on a whole. I'm off to the barbershop to get my baldy touched up. Straight blade. Thanks to URBNET for letting me be me. I am planning a 'martian companion' project of sorts to be released in December so these vibes can continue. Stay tuned and spread these tunes... After shedding his former pseudonym of A La $ole, Pro Era member Aaron Rose dropped a number of noteworthy singles and killed every guest feature. But with the release of his new EP, ‘Elixir,’ the Brooklyn rapper has never sounded more focused or motivated, and it’s only a taste of what’s to come from the young artist.

His tenacity becomes clear as soon as opener “The Root of Sole” hits your ear with its mad-scientist samples and production from J57 (he produced five of the EP’s seven tracks). And then in comes Rose to bring it all together, flexing his breathless flow and dizzying wordplay.

From there, the BK native continues to rip apart the instrumentals, including the jazzier “Break It Down,” featuring Domo Genesis and the more militant “Parkside Ave.” More than just a rapper with incredible chops, Rose also reveals pieces of his personality and background on those same tracks. Like on “Break It Down” when he rhymes, ”’A black man who knows what his worth is, I’m off the circuits/ From this American horror story, we in the circus”

Elsewhere, he eviscerates his critics on standouts “The Art of Sole” and “Swank Corleone,” the latter of which is produced by Latrell James. Rose also gets an opportunity to stunt alongside fellow Pro Era member Dirty Sanchez on “The Shift,” a slapper produced by The Audible Doctor.

Amidst the variety in sounds, the project remains distinctly the work of its host emcee. And he drives that point home when speaking on ‘Elixir,’ saying succinctly: “I am Aaron Rose and this is my elixir.”

The visionary sound of Blitz The Ambassador has been years in the making; with each album crafted to reflect a sonic and visual narrative unique to Blitz's personal experience. His fourth studio album 'Diasporadical' exemplifies this trajectory. Blitz spent a great deal of time traveling between Accra, Salvador Bahia and Brooklyn experiencing the similarities between the African diaspora. "The album title 'Diasporadical' was born out of this experience" Blitz explains. " The radical notion that no matter how fragmented the African diaspora is, the influence of rhythm and spirituality remains largely the same."

On Diasporadical, Blitz conjures his signature blend of Classic Hip-Hop and Contemporary African rhythms, enlisting producers like Optiks and IAMNOBODI to create a seamless fusion of live instruments and hard hitting beats. To bring his vision to life, Blitz assembled a supporting cast of continental and diaspora African artists such as Tumi, Akua Naru, Kamau, Patrice, M.anifest and Somi. The sonic result is a three act narrative, crafted like a stage play.

Diasporadical offers itself as a study of intersections between the global African experience and struggle. No track exemplifies this more than A(wake), written in response to police brutality and the 'Black Lives Matter' movement in America. Inspiration also came from the 'Fees Must Fall' movement in South Africa and the Afro-Brazilian protests during the Olympics.Besides it's politically charged message, Diasporadical also explores themes common in Blitz's past work. Description:

LIT is a snapshot of Bluestaeb und JuJu Rogers' musical endeavors in Fall 2016. Both had a successful 2015 & 2016 with highly acclaimed albums and a European support tour of Oddisee for JuJu Roogers. Both musicians are working on new solo albums and both of them are not happy with having the "boom bap" stamp forced on them. Their perspective is about progression, live music, changing the formula and going new ways. This doesn’t mean that they’re blindly following trends but to question and adapt one’s own formula. In the case of lit it means adding live musicians to the equation, going for a sound that refines the direction they took on their previous releases.

With regard to content, JuJu's raps on the project deals with the important questions of our time. The trend word „lit“ becomes „LIT“, an abbreviation for "lost in translation" and a metaphor for the disconnection from trends of our society in general and hip hop especially. Racism, police brutality, gangsta rapper turning activists while still following a pattern of hate and destruction. Bluestaeb’s productions fluctuates from soulful and smooth to raw and gritty without sounding redundant or interchangeable.

Be on the lookout for Bluesteab’s and JuJu’s solo albums dropping in 2017.

"This record is dedicated to the wretched of the earth. The weak and poor. To the people all around the world less privileged than us who are forced to live under even worse circumstances. The criminalized, racialized and marginalized people of this planet. RIGHT ON! ALL POWER TO THE PEOPLE!"

Gambino выпустил свой третий альбом и этот альбом действительно хорош. В последнее время я почти махнул рукой и перестал рассказывать про этого артиста, но с "Awaken, My Love" он обставил своё громкое возвращение в новом качестве. Childish Gambino обычно занимался тем, что мешал рэп с RnB, что получалось у него с переменным успехом, а в этот раз он неожиданно принёс психоделический фанк и это, пожалуй, лучшее, что ему удалось в музыке на данный момент. Gambino, как известно, не обделён и чувством юмора, что тоже нашло на альбоме лучшее применение. Парень он, конечно, талантливый, но после прослушивания "Awaken, My Love", ощущение такое, что он вырос на две головы.
