Obsession Confession...

Hello, my name is Cheryll.
I'm a sugar junky...a carb addict.
I don't need Over Eaters Anonymous
to tell me I have a problem.
I LOVE TO EAT! And this is no secret.
I've gained 75 pounds in the last 6 months.
I blame it on meds but hey,
I do get to choose what I put in my body, right?
Nancy and I have decided to join Jenny
and a few other friends
on a healthy lifestyle journey.
We'll be sharing some of our fun "healthy" recipes
if you'd like to keep up with us.
The first few days of my journey
were rough but I did alot of soul searching
and have decided that I cannot put all that yucky stuff
in my body any longer.
Just last winter the smell of bacon frying made me ill.
Yesterday was a good day.
In the evening (when the sugar cravings start)
I decided that I was going to take the sugar thing slow...
it's like weening yourself from a drug!
Since I did so well all day
with lot's of turkey, fresh fruits and veggies,
I treated myself to some sugar.
These are little brownie bites by Keebler (100 calorie pack).
The strawberries were the sweetest I've had all year
and I felt like I was eating chocolate covered strawberries.
I thought you might enjoy it too!

Me and ma dawg...

We're still here!
I've been working
(slow poke like)
on my Fat Quarterly quilt-along.
Seems like everyone else is either quilted
or close to being so.
I'll be posting pictures soon.
I promise.
In the mean time,
Lily Rose watches me put the little blocks together.
Who wouldn't love this mug?

September...

The golden rod is yellow,
the corn is turning brown.
The trees in apple orchards
with fruit are bending down.
The gentian's bluest fringes
are curling in the sun,
in dusky pods the milkweed
it's hidden silk is spun.
The sedges flaunt their harvest
in every meadow nook,
and asters by the brookside
make asters in the brook.
From dewy lanes at morning,
the grapes sweet odors rise.
At noon the roads all flutter
with yellow butterflies.
By all these lovely tokens
September days are here.
With summers best of weather
and Autumn's best of cheer.

Gypsy Rose Jelly Roll...

Fiona, over HERE,
convinced me that I should cut this up
and play along with her
and the rest of the folks at Fat Quarterly
for the four week quilt-a-long.
(Say that fast 3 times!)
After seeing her little stack of fabrics
how could I resist?
That is why we buy fabric, right?
To cut it up and put it back together again...
like paper.
Just sayin'.
I got it a while back from
I'm supposed to have the strips sub-cut by today.
Tomorrow we start block assembly.

Bliss Pinwheels...

I finished some pinwheels!
Check out this video...

Dark and Dreary...

It's dark and dreary here today
and I have no motivation.
This is what I've been doing
all afternoon...

This is what I would like to be doing
but I have to make dinner.

THIS, is what I SHOULD be doing.
What a mess!

New Toy...

I keep forgeting to tell you!
I got my AccuQuilt GO! It's out of the box
and I ran some fabric through it
but really haven't used it yet.
It works just like the Cuttlebug
but for fabric.

Another very special gift...

I love Autumn!
It's my favorite season.
It's this time of the year that my Daddy would always
come visit for a week or so.
He loved Autumn too,
and he loved all the color we're so blessed with
before the trees shed their leaves
in preperation for a long Winter rest.
You all know that PINK is my favorite color but,
there's just something about those
bright reds, oranges and yellows
that beckon to me through the fresh smell of Fall.
I lost my Grandfather when I was 14 years old.
I was traumatized.
He was the sweetest man I have ever met
and he loved me so...
I was his first grand-child, and Yes, I'm spoiled.
PaPa worked on the raildroad
for some 30 years
before he suddenly passed away
from the very same heart disease
that took my Daddy from me.
The difference being,
I got to keep my Daddy for an extra 20 years...
the Lord took my PaPa in his early 50's.
He worked the night shift.
I spent alot of time at my grand-parents house
when I was young.
My Aunt and I would watch TV,
eat popcorn with milk
and wait for him to get home.
We loved him so much.
He loved all of his children
but when he passed away,
inside his wallet was found 2 pictures...
one of me and one of my Aunt.
Although she and I live 800 miles apart
and haven't seen one another in 33 years,
we still keep in touch.
I talked to her just last week
and she said she had something for me.
She shipped this treasure UPS
and I got it within 2 days!
I knew what was coming
but never imagined it was going to be so special.
It's an old oil can from the rail road my PaPa worked for!
I held it and stroked it.
All the while thinking that maybe, just maybe,
my PaPa had once held this can.
I'm not that much into primitives
but I do love to decorate with them in the Fall.
I rushed myself right out
and got some flowers for the can...
and doesn't the little visitor fit perfectly.
I think about my PaPa alot and I miss him still...
after all these years.
I miss my Daddy too.
I can still see him walking through my big side yard,
coming back from a little stroll
through the crispy leaves and hickory nuts.
I take comfort in knowing that they are together now...
looking down and smiling,
because they know this oil can brings me memories
and I'm happy
every time I look at it.
Thank you Janny.

A Gift From Blossom...

If you know me,
you know how much I love Jenny and Blossom.
They are just the sweetest girls!
And both so talented.
Hubby came in today from getting the mail.
He was so excited for me.
He said,
"Honey, lookie! You have a package from Australia!"
Well I knew right away who it was from
and snatched it out of his sore burnt hands.
Blossom, Jenny's daughter is the sender.
The package was so pretty I didn't want to open it.

Sew I pulled off the beautiful bookmark, turned the package again and again, all the while admiring the pretty packaging. Wondering too, what it could be. I don't get many packages in the mail, especially from sweetum's in OZ! (I soooo want to go there.) Anyhoo, I collect pretty bookmarks...how could she know? I blog about all of my collections but have never mentioned that I have a bookmark collection too...I love to read! I turned the bookmark over and there was a special note from Blossom. Oh you sweet girl! Just the personalized bookmark thrilled me beyond imagination. Can you tell yet that Blossom is one of my favorite people I've never met? She is only 16 years old and is already the most wonderful lady.

OK, ok, back to the package.

When I was finally able to make myself tear open the package, to my surprise was the most beautiful siver bookmark with a large dangling, crimson jewel. I am still in awwwwwwww and when I finish touching it, it will go in my Bible.

My lighting was bad when I snapped this picture
and it looks gold but it's not.
It's the shiniest of silver.
The jewel reminds me of Dorothy's ruby slippers.

Thank you Blossom,
from the bity bottom of my heart.
I love you too!
