DIY project - dust cover for a printer

My next sewing project is a printer cover. I have received an order in which I was asked to do a cover in orange & red toned fabric. The customer has two kids and a cat and wants to keep all electronics devices out of their reach. I have sewn a laptop sleeve, a tablet sleeve and padded bag for her already and I was so happy to receive another order from her.

I would like to share this project with you as I think our printers deserve a little bit of maintenance and protection too. My printer is usually covered in dust when not in use to be honest. So now it's the right time to change it. Let's do this together!

step 1: find out your printer's dimensions or measure it by yourself. In my case the printer dimensions are 62 x 37 x 23 cm.

step 2: Choose fabric/fabrics you like. Cut out 5 rectangles from desired fabric. I cut out 3 rectangles from orange heavy cotton fabric and 2 from Tulip fabric as follows:

2 x rectangles from Tulip fabric - 62.5 x 23.5 cm  (printer length x printer height) + add seam allowance (1.5 cm for each side)
2 x rectangles from orange fabric - 37.5 x 23.5 cm (printer width x printer height) + seaming allowance
1 x rectangle from orange fabric - 62.5 x 37.5 cm (printer length x printer width) + seaming allowance

step 4. Pin orange rectangles right sides together as per below picture ( the longest rectangle stays in the middle) and sew.
step 5: Pin & sew the Tulip rectangles to the orange sides (as per below picture)

and then sew on the top sides. You should have now cuboid shaped cover without a bottom.

step 6: Turn the cover up side down and hem it to avoid ripping of the fabric. You should do this step at the start. You should hem all rectangles separately. That's the right way to do that. I only did it at the end as I was lazy and this way is faster!

step 7: Iron the cover, straighten up the edges and... that's it! Enjoy your new dust cover made by yourself! :)

You can use the same pattern and make dust covers for other machines which you don't use too much like sewing machine, photocopier, scanning machine, or  an old drawer, bookshelf, shoe rack ...

Good morning sunshine!

This is my latest project - blouse made by me last minute before leaving Cork to Malaga for holidays. I used white&red flower fabric which was originally sold as a duvet cover :)  When I saw it in the shop I imagined some nice summer dress or top made from it as the material was very soft and breathable, also very light. So I bought it and finally I decided to make a summer casual blouse.

What I really like about this blouse is Carmen-Style neckline. It exposes your shoulders just enough to feel sun heat from above :)

I would like to know your opinion. Do you like the pattern? What about a fabric choice ? Would you change anything?

All the above pictures were taken in Malaga streets by JH . Would you like to taste a little bit of Malaga? Click here to check out a video from our holidays! Enjoy! :)

A Purse - gift for my mum (FEEDBACK NEEDED!)

My parents came to visit me in Ireland few weeks ago. We had a great time together, enjoying beautiful weather and amazing Irish countryside. As you might remember I did a project few months ago – PURSE which became my favorite accessory for all occasions. When I showed this purse to my mum during her visit, she liked the design and mainly the idea that I can carry EVERYTHING in this bag: money, keys, phone, credit cards, business cards, coupons, bills, lipstick and much more!

So I have decided to make very similar purse for herself. I used different fabric, but same design. I made the pockets smaller as the pockets on the first one are a little bit loose.

The purse has 12 pockets in total:  9 pockets for credit cards/business cards, 1 pocket for bank notes, 1 zipped pocket for your coins and 1 extra large pocket for your phone, keys, lipstick, …It closes with black elastic band which hold the purse tight.

I would like to get feedback from you. Do you like this purse? What would you change? Would you like to see this product in my shop??

My new project_An envelope handbag ”London, Paris, Tokyo"

An envelope handbag is the hottest accessory this season. It is popular for night but some styles created in a large version can be used for day, to carry the items that you need. I created a day stylish envelope bag (clutch) that can add glam to any outfit, without needing the evening attire.

These bags are so light, comfortable for your hand, and also they look nice. Not only that, but they are so convenient for many social occasions you are attending. This is why so many women just love en envelope bag. It is not just that they must have, but it is something that they enjoy carrying. This way, every woman can carry her money, drivers’ license, credit cards, some make up, and still look stunning.

New York, London, Tokyo, Paris, Rome, Montreal,... not only large cities, but also very fashionable. Ever since I saw this fabric I fell in love with it. It is exactly the type of fabric I like – simple lines, eye catching and made from quality cotton! I had to have it :)

The bag itself measures approx. 14" in width by 16" in height. The bag's interior & exterior is made of cotton as usually! Both front and back of this bag is filled with 3mm foam padding to give it a nice structure and shape. It closes with hot pink or parrot blue zipper.

Fold it down and slip it underneath an arm or carry it straight on :D. Either way, it’s an effortlessly cool!

The above clutches are also available for purchase at my shop MirkaDesign*

This one is an universal envelope bag which could be worn anywhere! A lovely silver fabric makes an interesting light & shadow play. It looks great with an evening dress too!

The clutch is fully lined in black cotton. It closes with two magnetic snaps.

New design - laptop sleeve WOLF*

I created a new laptop sleeve design few weeks ago when one friend of mine asked me to make a sleeve for her new  Macbook Air laptop http://www.apple.com/macbookair/  This laptop is made from strong, beautiful materials like aluminum and glass. It comes with latest technology and it has features you won't find on a PC. It is SUPER SLIM and looks just gorgeous!

As this laptop is so special and original I wanted to create a sleeve which would be unique too! With a help of JH Design studio we came up with this idea:

What makes this sleeve different is a closure. It closes very simple. Just fold  the opening side of the sleeve and fix it with an elastic band! It is fast and practical. The elastic band is sewn-in so you will never loose it :)

The sleeve is is made from 100% cotton fabric, lined with white cotton and reinforced with thin PVC foam. The soft cotton fabric inside helps protect your laptop from scratches and other cosmetic damage.

As usual sleeves can be made in all sizes & all laptop types ( such as Macbook, Dell, HP, Sony, Acer, Compaq, Toshiba, Lenovo,..)

You can threat your notebook with this sleeve too! Visit my shop www.mirkadesign.etsy.com , choose the sleeve you like, put it into your cart and make a note in your order for which laptop would you like me to make a sleeve.

Thank you for your visit!!

Laptop sleeves..or Treat your laptop with something useful!

We use laptops every day. Somebody uses a laptop for work, somebody for entertainment and for somebody it is… let’s say the need of the day! We get use to check mails as a first thing when we get home from work (school), write a comment on Facebook, read news on internet... Laptops (computers as well as internet)  have become part of our life. They have changed the face of society. A lot of people can’t imagine existing without them!

As laptops are a daily utility, we should take care of them, protect them. That’s why I decided to create sleeves what protect your laptop from dust, scratches, and abrasions, as well as water damage and other dangers harmful to your computer.

Buying a laptop can cost you a large chunk of cash these days, so it is wise to protect your investment.

I create laptop sleeves for all types, brands and sizes. I design the sleeve to fit the laptop specifically. I always ask my customers to send me the measurements of their laptop or type of their laptop.

My sleeves are lightweight, padded with 3 mm PVC foam insert, lined with soft cotton fabric and secured with straps or velcro flap which keep the laptop from sliding out of the sleeve. Combination of foam and lining protects the laptop from dings, scratches, water, and other harmful external forces.

Most of these laptops are available on viewing and purchasing at
