November- Catch up

EEEEK! My mom's super behind in documenting our life!

In an effort to do a little documenting, here's November in a nutshell.

November was kind of a blur; we were mostly excited with our upcoming surprise visit to the Barrons  (more on that later!)

To start out the month, we got our first snow!  Grandma Mac had just sent Graham a great new snow suit, and we battled to the death to put it on and go play. It should be mentioned that Graham WOULD like his snow suit if he liked any sort of clothing. I hope that the gift doesn't get the wrong idea :)

After the snow pants, boots and a coat weren't in the cards. Besides, it wasn't really that cold.

Enjoying some brownie batter

Graham and his friend Luke; they are 2 months apart exactly.

We made our way to Lancaster (pronounced LAYncaster here:) to visit a little group of shops called Kitchen Kettle Village. We had gone with my parents when they were here, but we wanted to pick up some things for my Dad's b-day.

This is not an uncommon sight in PA- a group of Amish kids going home from school. I love seeing the Amish and Mennonites working out in their gardens, their dark clothes on the clothesline, and little kids carrying rakes and garden tools home from school. Their culture is fascinating to me!

Oh you know. Just a horse and buggy in the middle of the highway.

Graham at Kitchen Kettle Village, riding the wagons and petting the horses

We spend Thanksgiving with some great friends, the Isoms and the Jessens; it was so different to not be with family, but we really had a great day! As soon as everyone left we got to work on putting up our Christmas decor. It was so nice to enjoy Paul's break- even if it was only 2 days!

Halloween- Nachoooooooooo!

Every day in the back of my mind is a nagging feeling that I NEED to document more of our life, especially Graham and his ever-changing ways. Catching up:

Halloween

For Halloween this year I had been planning Graham's costume for what seemed like months. Because of his darling physique, we decided he would be a perfect Nacho Libre. It turned out to be the perfect costume choice and it was a hit amongst most Mormon 30 somethings (I guess Nacho Libre was kindof a Utah thing? Similar to Napoleon Dynamite. Nobody back east really knew who he was, but we did, and our ward did, and that's what counts.)

I quickly whipped together his costume, and it was super easy. Cape, dyed tights, red socks with embroidery floss laces, and red bloomers. Complete with a Crayola moustache that he threw a huge fit about.

We went to our first ward Halloween party- we've never been huge ward partiers, but I was so glad we went! It was fun to interact with our ward and the fun people in it. We had a huge chili cookoff and a kids parade. Graham just wanted to roam around with the big kids, so we ended up chasing him most of the night.

We took Luke and Graham to Home Depot to visit Steffani at work. Luke mostly cried because he wanted his mom, but Graham was enamored with all of the fun things to look at there!
No Nach Libre is complete without his Softie in tow.
Way too into the batteries to look at the camera.

The actual night of Halloween was freezing and windy, so we opted to stay at home. Graham doesn't understand trick-or-treating yet anyway, so we didn't want to torture ourselves. We bought Dum-Dum suckers to hand out and Graham was in heaven, consuming at least 4 of them. We also didn't bother putting his moustache and eyebrows on a second time since he was only going to be awake for about an hour of trick or treaters.
*Cool thing about our "township"- in an effort to keep trick-or-treating under control and for kids, our township only allows trick or treating on Halloween night (other townships do it the week before!) from 5:30-7:30. It was so nice to be done early and not have to worry about people coming to our door at all hours of the night! And we probably didn't get anyone above the age of 12. Welcome change for this Halloween Scrooge.

He was not too excited about taking pictures
Wearing a cape, or bib, is hard work!

Inside a man, you find his nucleus

I am sad that I didn't ever get a great picture of Graham in his costume- maybe when it warms up outside I'll throw him back in his costume (assuming it still fits) and try my luck again. He does love being shirtless...

"Syuckahs" complete this boy.

Nana, Papa, and Kenna's visit

About 2 months ago (I'm behind, I realize) my parents and sister McKenna came to visit for a few days. Frontier Airlines was doing a killer promotion from SLC to Harrisburg, and we were so happy they were able to come visit us! Graham had a fun time playing with Nana and Papa and Kenna. My dad was great with him, as always, and would take him outside for hours on end to play. That combined with multiple chicken nugget runs, and Graham was in heaven!

Here are some things we did while they were here:

Visited Chocolate World (Of course) It had been 20 years since they were here last and they said it was pretty much the exact same as it was 20 years ago!
It took Graham a while to get used to everyone again.
Everyone except Papa.

We also visited the apple orchard again and let Graham do what he loves the most- wander and explore!

The next day we packed up and went to Intercourse, PA. Um yeah, that's really the name of the most Amish inhabited place within 50 miles of us. All over the roads were horses and buggies, and people working with plows and push mowers in their fields. It is crazy to think of how different their lives must be from ours, just 20 miles away!

On the way we stopped at Julius Sturgis pretzel factory and had a tour. You know who was really not that interested in the pretzel making.
This is pretty much what we did during the tour...

Then on to Kitchen Kettle Village, where we got to see some farm animals,

My dad totally illegally put Graham on the petting zoo horse.  Super funny:)

Not so sure about the goats...

This series of pictures makes me laugh... The sign above the chickens says that even though it feels weird to have them eat out of your hand, they can't hurt you. My dad tried to get Graham to feed them, and once they pecked his hand, he was NOT happy!

Also at Kitchen Kettle Village

The day before they went home we all drove to Gettysburg

We were able to do the car tour, but I don't know that 2 hours of driving 15 miles per hour is exactly what Graham had in mind for his Saturday afternoon. I had been years since I had been there, and heck, we live 45 minutes away, so we had to go anyway! It was cool to see some of the historic parts of our new home. We're so happy to live here!

Thanks for coming, guys! It was a blast!
(Graham wandered around looking for "Papa" for days afterwards. Every fake phone call he makes now is to either Nana or Papa. The downside of living 2000 miles away from family)

September/October

Things are going great here in Pennsylvania! We are loving the experiences we are having, the places we are going, and the people we continue to meet. Paul is doing well in school; he's just finished up his first main course- anatomy! He told me this week "I NEVER want to see another Anatomy note/textbook/flashcard ever again!" If you know Paul at all, you know that this is something I never thought I would hear! He's been studying so much, and spending a lot of time at school and in the cadaver lab, so I guess I can see how he'd be so sick of it!
Graham is growing by leaps and bounds, especially his vocabulary and shoe size (size 7!!) He loves trucks, trucks, and mostly trucks. "cuck!" is what he calls them, and can hear the UPS man from down the street.
I am doing great, and I love being home. There are some times that I wonder how I ever managed to work full time and do all of the things I wanted to do; and then I realize that I didn't! I am finding that I enjoy cooking/baking, I have a lot more time for crafting, and I can spend so much more quality time with Graham, not just on my lunch breaks anymore!

Some highlights of the month:

Our very first visit to Hershey Park! A sweet neighbor had two tickets that they weren't going to use before the park closed for the fall, so we were lucky enough to go! We've debated buying season passes, but I think we might hold off until Graham's a little bit older. Word on the street is that during the summertime there's a great water park inside that's great for little kids, and that it's usually not so crowded (we went on the last open day of normal operation, so it was PACKED!)

This was Graham's first ride, and it was deceivingly fast! He kept this same look throughout the whole ride. He didn't know what to think about the other rides either. I don't think he said three words the whole time we were there... just sat and soaked it all in.
Here we are on the carousel- he liked this ride the best. And me post-horrible hair cut; still having a hard time finding someone out here that can cut short hair. Yikes.

All in all, the park is incredibly clean. It's more like a Lagoon, but with fewer W.T. people (the tickets are super expensive, so I think that deters a lot of people.)

We have been "rained in" a couple of days, and that does not go over well with this boy. Thanks to Larissa and Davis, we had non-stop bubbles; enough to keep us busy for a good half hour!

Down the road is a cool farmer's market called Strites Orchard. They are open year round and have an indoor store that Graham loves; how could he not? There's even a working beehive inside! They have a pick your own apple program where you fill an entire half bushel bag for $11. We fit about 26 lbs of apple inside, which makes apple less than $.50 per lb. In the stores, the cheapest they get is about $2.50 per lb. Way cheaper, and the apples are amazing!

The best thing about the orchard is that Graham can run around without being told no. And the unlimited snacks don't hurt either!

These pictures serve two purposes; one, to show his great Phillies hat. I found it at Ross here, and it's just what Paul had been looking for! Paul has a matching one and is so happy that Graham will wear it! Two- to show the gross bruise on his face. Suddenly Graham has become super accident prone. As I write, he has a bruise above his lip from smacking his face into the toilet (gross, I know) and a cut in his head from face planting in the street. The bruise came from falling against the coffee table. He wasn't this clumsy when he first started walking, but now that his primary way of moving is running, look out. I see lots of stitches on our horizon.

A separate head smacking incident.

PLEASE let me go outside Mom!!!

One of Graham's favorite foods lately is cold cereal "cee-cee". He loves the idea of eating with silverware,  but it rarely lasts more than a few bites.

He loves his bike, and will put on his helmet by himself (backwards usually) He loves to ride it and to push it, but gets really annoyed when it goes into the grass or dirt.

New words this month:
Animal sounds; cow, horse, sheep, duck, kitty, puppy, monster, truck, monkey
"Cheet"- treat
"Ummm"
"Thank you"
"Please"
"cuck"- Truck
'App-ol"- apple
"Cracka"- cracker
Papa
Nana
"boo!"

Ummm, I need to be better at writing down what he says when he says it, because now I can't remember:)

Other fun things he does:
Kick a ball
Puts shoes on (tries to)
Drive his cars on the cement while we walk
YELLS "Cuck!" when he hears one coming down the street
Bangs on the door to go outside
Pull my pant leg and turns me around to either pick him up or go outside
Talks on the phone/ipod
Opens books and reads the out loud with funny tones
"Bounces" on the bed
Closes his eyes to play peek-a-boo & hide and seek
Loves to be chased down the hall
Still infatuated with softies. The more the better!
Started loving bathtime again
Eats rocks (?) (which is weird because he's never been one to put weird things in his mouth.)
SUPER picky eater all of a sudden. It totally shows, right?
umm, 30 lbs.
Wears 2t, size 6/7 shoes
Blows kisses
Pats our backs when we hold him
Love to be tickled and wrestled
LOVES the Truck book and the "Boom Boom Bap" book from Aunt Stacey (Sissy he calls her:)
Really well behaved in restaurants (not so much church)
Starting to enjoy playing with other kids. When other people would come over he would take a favorite toy and play in a corner. Can we say anti-social? His favorite friends right now are Kennedy and Luke, and our primary boys, especially Carter.
