The Stats

So this is Vanessa back in May, when we first moved here. Notice the shirt she is wearing. It's size 9 month. This is Vanessa today. And, after a trip to the doc this morning, here are her stats. She is 21.7 lbs and 30.75 in. Both are around 25th percentile. This is Benson rockin the bumbo. I've only put him in it for super short periods (like two minutes)up until today. He lasted quite a while and I think he enjoyed it. His stats are a different sort of story. He is 15.8 lbs and 24.75 in. Both are around the 75th percentile. I'm not quite sure how we got two so different but I'm just glad he's the big one and she's the small one.
And this beauty was our sunset tonight. Life's pretty darn good.

It's Been Forever

I already regret what a horrible journal keeper I am. I started a word document before Benson was born, documenting Vanessa's development and cute things she did. Then, our laptop stopped working and I thought I lost the document. I was pretty bummed. Lucky for us, it was a $15 fix, a new power cord; so I got it back. But, I have still been horrible at documenting our lives. Besides, there is always that very real possibility that the computer does crash for real and all that work is lost. So I guess there is a good argument that journaling on a computer is best left somewhere in the cyber world, or on external storage. So, for the sake of convenience; I guess it will go here.
Benson is four months old tomorrow. Where did the time go? Benson is huge. He's around 15 lbs. He still hasn't been in to the doc for a check up. I took them in one day and they were sick so it turned into a sick visit. Then I couldn't get anything scheduled for a while la de da. Anyway, we're going next Friday.
Vanessa is doing pretty good with Benson. She likes him and never tries to hurt him. I say that because I have caught her laying on him a couple times trying to give him hugs. And she's fallen on his head a time or two. Luckily, it's always been on a soft surface so it hasn't really hurt either one of them. Vanessa has been super clingy lately. I think it's a combo of jealousy and lots of changes going to Utah and all. We're starting to get back into a routine and I'm hoping that will help.
Vanessa used to eat up all the attention she gets from strangers down here. Now, whenever someone she doesn't know is even walking towards us, she runs over and grabs my leg. The other day, a man at the grocery store took our cart, trying to help and she went completely ballistic. Partly because her ball was in the cart and partly because he tried to tie her shoe. Guess I don't have to worry about her talking to strangers.
Just a picture or two to reminisce
Vanessa is talking so much. We love it. Her new favorite phrase is "wusdat?" Yes, it's all one word to her. She asks what everything is, whether she knows what it is or not. Sometimes she'll ask and answer herself. She loves to play with all her animals. She has littlest pet shop and just fake plastic animals. She plays with those the most of all her toys. She also really enjoys coloring, on everything. Though she is getting better at keeping it on the paper. We are working on teaching her colors, I am not really sure if she knows any yet. She knows what the colors are because if you ask her what color something is she will always tell you a color. They are just only right sometimes. I guess it's just a lucky guess? Vanessa has also become aware of crying and being sad. The other day she was crying in her car seat. When I got in the back to sit by her, she said "I crying." It was the cutest thing, with her little tears rolling down her cheeks.
Benson is getting bigger every day. Turns out he is a super happy baby. Once we figured out his collic and got my diet right, he started doing a thousands times better. Yesterday, I had a bowl of cereal with real milk without evern thinking about it until I was finishing up and realized the milk actually tasted good. It only took about four hours and poor Benson was in knots. I felt awful. For about 20 minutes he just screamed as I did everything I could think of to get the gas out. It finally did pass and we both survived.
Benson charms us with his huge smile and a look that makes you feel like you are the most important person in his life. He is in the stage of sucking on absolutely everything he can get his little chubby fingers wrapped around. And he drools like crazy. He isn't rolling yet, but he is dang close. He's lifting up on his elbows like a champ.
As for Jon and I, we are still learning how to keep two kids happy at the same time. Jon just started his third semester. He is really excited this semester to get going on clinicals. He'll start here soon and go about once or twice a week. In April or May, we'll get his schedule for when he does clinicals full time. That will start in September. The clinicals sites are all around the country and last 6-8 weeks. It could be a crazy time for us. We'll see what happens. I for one, am dying to get our schedule so we can figure out what we are going to do.
Other news for me, I'm still a stay at home mom. I love every second of being with my kiddos. Don't really love cleaning and having fun trying out new recipes. Jon says I'm not that bad of a cook, but I definitely botch my fair share.
We have loved being in Florida going to the beach as often as we can. We've decided if we stay here, a boat will be a must and we'll take up traveling to the Bahamas for the weekend. Not a bad life. We are also working hard on our photography. We both enjoy it so much and hope to be able to have a studio in our home one day. We are learning to love where we are and love each day, but I can't say we aren't looking forward to the future, and a HOUSE! Oh wow, that will be the day. Guess I better get back to being mommy.
