Homestay cum tour with the UK Guides

Duration: 3D2N (22nd~24th August 2008)
Hey peeps,
As promised, here are the updates on my fostering experience...

Day 1

At about 2.30p.m. , mum & I headed to the National Headquarters of Girl Guides(GG) to meet the overseas guides. They just got back from an international camp held in Perak.

They must be tired, we thought. But, guess what, when we gave them their choices, they prefer to start the tour rather than resting at home!! How adventurous!! That's the GG spirit yo!!

Squashing all of them (with their haversack) into my mum's Naza Ria.. haha.. how cute..
Behind(from left) : Toni, Samantha(Sam), & Elizabeth(Liz)
Front (fr. left) : Megan & Gabrielle(Gabbie)

Oh yes, it was jam(ming) & raining very heavily that day... T.T
To them, they get to see the scenes better!!
1st stop: Craft Complex, Jalan Comlay

Batik Painting.. ooo.. they enjoyed it a lot... A man was there to demonstrate to them the art of batik!! woo-hoo!!
It's their turn now!! Doing very well!!
Toni & Sam finished the painting quite fast, n so, they moved on to try out the wax outlining of batik.
Stone Painting : Tie & Dye Technique

This was new to me.. haha.. it might be to u too!! hehe.. OK, this is how it works, you put the stones/pebbles into the cloth(the white 1 I'm holding) with a rubber band tying it tightly.. then dip them into the dye.. wait for a while, then dip them into the chemical solution.

There're 3 types of chemical solution e.g. Iron solution - which will darken the part reachable(Those tied up with rubber band can't be reached), Copper Solution - which will redden the dye... n the last 1, I forgotten, sorry :) So after dying the cloth in the dyes, you dipped them into any chemical solution. I chose the iron solution, n this was the outcome.. ta-da...

Economy boosting

Buy-buy-buy!!! haha.. crafts of Malaysia are so attractive!!
2nd stop: Restaurant for dinner
(forgotten the name)

Some of the local cuisine.. hehe.. more to come!! I snapped the pix b4 everything is here bcoz they were hungry *tummy grumbling*!! haha.. & they can't wait!! So, I hv to snap them b4 they start!! wakakaka...
We gave them an option to use fork & spoon.. However, they love the art of chopstick so much, n were determine to use it throughout dinner, so... it was a seriously amusing dinner we have that night!! lol!!

Their guiders(leaders), Megan & Gabbie were great chopstick users.. Elizabeth was ok too.. though she dropped the chopstick twice.. hehe..

As for Toni & Sam, we had a hard time laughing...
Finally, Sam gave up... & chose to use the chopstick her "spaghetti" way.. haha
3rd stop: Petaling Street/China Town

Gabbie was interested in one of the dress, but, the owner doesn't have a mirror...=.=''' Well, Gabbie was smart, she saw me holding a camera, and hence, asked me to take a picture of her so that she can see how she looks.. *smart*
ta-da... beautiful!! haha..
Btw, we noticed that they love "bling-bling" stuff.. hahaha.. n so they stopped at this shop. Well, we then notice that they stopped for quite a long time, n finally, my mum asked, "Is any1 getting anything from here?"
"Nope.. " One of them answered... "We're trying to get some air-con here" =.=''' that was funny.
As we walked pass the stalls, it was so embarrassing on how the owners actually addressed my UK pals.. haha.. "Hey beauty!!", "Hey Pretty"..."phew-wheet(wistle-blow)" Well, a gentle "Hi" would be good enough!! One of them were even worse, he ask me to ask if they wanna hang out with him.. He says he wanna give them a beer treat.. He asked me to ask them.. Urgh!! How embarrassing!! =.='''
My UK pals were joking after that, "No wonder people love going to China Town, they feel so beautiful after that.. haha"
They bought a lot.. really a, RM 1 = L 6.xxx ... it was simply worth buying!! ahaha.. that was their feedback!! haha.. Well, since I was studying ACCA, I was practically their walking calculator.. Many of them kept asking.. "Sam.. wat's RMxx.xx devided by 6?? haha
At about 11.00p.m., we headed back home.. to be precise, it's my mum's kindergarten... coz there were too many of them, but well, they still love it, Sis & I slept with them there. Oh yea.. they wanted to wash their uniforms becoz they hv to wear them on Sunday..

ta-da... ain't they cute..

da' mothers
Megan & my mum had a great chat on the girl guiding activities in UK... btw.. Megan is a computer analyst in HSBC & a mother of 2... woo-hoo..

Initial plan of breakfast was McD.. Thought they might want something western.. Then, they said that they hv McD in UK.. They wanna try smth different & local.. *applause* So, we had breakfast at Old Town Coffee House.
Gabbie & Toni enjoying their Toast.. Sam(UK) had Nasi Lemak & curry chicken toast... she's really good at spicy food!! *bravo!*

5th stop: Sis's college... UCTI

Since there's a computer analyst.. Megan.. we thought of bringing them on a visit to an IT college.. hehe.. she's impressed!! woo-hoo!! Their lucky, coz they get to visit a kindergarten & college.. wow!! haha..
6th stop: Bkt Jalil National Stadium

A picture of the UK contingent
What a pose!! haha
Sam was trying to grab a picture of the "keris"

I took 1 for them.. they love this pic very much.. & I did not hv to lie down to take this pic!! haha.. So, Gabbie joked.. n said that Sam(UK) should practise more.. coz her several picture-taking did not turn out good, though she posed that hard!! haha..

7th stop: Mr. Aziz's house

Oh.. she was having a slight tummy upset..(due to the adjustments on the food & water)
Megan & mum talking to Katherine.

There was a banana tree outside Mr Aziz's lawn.. haha.. n these 2 girls were having fun with the tree.. they don't usually see banana trees in UK.. like us, the apple tree.
8th stop: Bird Park

flock of birds....
Tour organised by Mrs Lorraine Woon, my guider(in green)..
Mum, Megan & Gabbie chatting during the bird show!

9th Stop: Suria KLCC/Twin Tower

On the way in the coach!
Outside the park of Suria KLCC, the guides took the opportunity to grab some pix of our tall & majestic Twin Tower!! *honoured* lol . They just love to lie down to snap pictures.. haha.. it was Sam jz now, n now, it's Georgia's turn!!..
Sam, trying to be funny!! haha Careful Georgia!!!
Shopping in "IS Souvenirs". Guiding is not only FUN.. it's "economy boosting"!! haha... lol

Group picture of the "mature" ppl!! lol
Songs & Games session!!

Group presentation!! *applause*
Group picture again!!
Final stop: Eye of Malaysia, Titiwangsa

The UKs said that they have an "England Eye" back in UK which is much much bigger.. Well, they were still enjoying because it was a different experience for them!! hehe..

Finally, made them a disc containing photos & videos taken by our camera.. hehe..
They love it!
Day 3
Day 3 wasn't much because their flight was at 10.20 a.m. We gave them a new experience via the ERL rather than "boot-boot" car!! ahahah.. n ofcoz we accompanied them.

Checking-in at KL Sentral at 7.00 a.m. Guess how early did we woke up!
In the ERL.. Still chatting
Toni & Sam were so sleepy!! I manage to catch a picture of them before they snooze off!
Had a great chat with Gabbie in the ERL...
Time flies, & we're finally in KLIA!!

Bon Voyage!!

Souvenirs from them!! Thanks so much, they're lovely!!
It was such a wonderful & great exposure by being able to foster the guides from UK. I learn a lot, talk a lot, play a lot, laugh a lot & most of all, I had LOTs of freiendship made... the only setback is.. I did not get to sleep a LOT.. haha..
In all, I had lots of fun throughout the fostering experience. It's my first time taking up the fostering job n it was really good!! hehe.. Thank God for providing...............EVERYTHING in need! Amen!

Ps: If you're interested in Girl Guiding.. contact me.. i'll try to arrange you for the recruitment. Well, we have volunteers categories too, like my mum, if you do not wanna be so into it. I'm sure you don't want your teenage/young adult life to be "just-like-that", do you??

I'm fostering the UK Guides!!

Heard of this term "Exchange Programme"?

If u haven't, i'll briefly describe a bit k.. hehe.. it's actually a programme for students from diff country exchanging a-month/week of homestay and experience the life in that country he/she send to. So, they will be taken care by a family(volunteered & chosen) which we normally call them their FOSTER family.

This coming weekend, erm.. it's tomorrow onwards actually.. haha.. my family will be fostering 5 Girl Guides from the United Kingdom(UK).. woo-hoo * Looking fwd..

Well, this is slightly different from an exchange programme, they came for a Girl Guide International Camp held in M'sia. The camp ends tmr & after that they'll undergo a homestay for bout 3-days. 5 from UK will be with my family!! :D

It's my first time fostering & am honoured to be able to. *challenging*

So, don't get too surprise when u see me lepaking the streets with 5 "ang-mo"s around me!! haha.. or else.. that'll indicate you haven't been visiting my blog!! haha.. (Yup, there's a catch to it)

I'll keep you guys updated on the details after it's over k!!

Til then,
hv a blessed weekend!

PS: I'm not going for CG ya.. :D but do pray for our safe journey, great weather, great stay & smooth logistics! Thx

PPS: Am taking my camp license practical exam next week.. *nervous* keep me in ya prayers too!! ;p

20 August 2008

Fun in College..

The "Diplomats" from the Mass Com. faculty organized an exhibition holding the theme : Malaysian's Culture (In conjunction with the Merdeka celebration I guess)

We had a 4-hour break today, n so, 4 of us.. Su Li, Wan Wai, Mei Sze & me thought of giving them a visit.

Well, it was fun! hehe.. As usual, there were lots of booth and they were divided into 3 segments i.e. Malay, Indian & Chinese.

The thing I had most fun out of it was, weaving a grasshopper... the malay way!! woo-hoo.. such great achievement I felt in instance! keke..

Will upload the pix a.s.a.I.c (as soon as I can)..

*I miss my high school, Sentosa's "Exhibition day"(Hari Pameran)... *

17 August 2008

And so, it's a silver...

After 39 minutes of battling,

Chong Wei MADE it!! woo-hoo

Oh no-no.. not the champ of course.. haha.. he MADE iT for M'sia's name to be UP on the medal tally ranking at 53 out of 63 with his "PLAtinum-like" SILVER medal !! hehe.. not bad!

I will not say that Chong Wei was no match for Lin Dan.. But, it's Lin Dan, that outperformed Chong Wei tonight! Whow.. Lin Dan was basically grasping the whole game PERFECTLY. whow..

Lin Dan was famous for being inconsistent. Thus, he was often overlooked. One thing many of us 4gotten.. inconsistency has 2 extremes.. it's either he plays superbly WELL... like tonight.. or superbly S*CKs..

Too bad for Chong Wei.. but he still deserves our big THANK YOU!!

15 August 2008

Durian for His birthday?? *cool*

It's my dad's b'day today.

He dislikes cake.. hehe.. so well, there's no cake-ky cake for his big day..

HE, loves durian more than any1.. I dunno how, but it's true that his siblings & him.. buys durian by "longgok".. u noe, those BIG baskets?? haha.. oh yes.. he does.. n they finish every single one of them!! OMG!! o.O *amaze*

Well, his loving wife a.k.a. my mother was thoughtful of his health, and band him from stuffing durians like he used too.. *aww....*

Well, since it was his special day today, guess what my mum did?? haha.. she bought him DURIANs.. five durians.. haha.. woo-hoo.. I guess he has his best night ever!! haha..

*Sweet mum & dad*

Lastly,
HAPPY BURPday Pa-Pa!!

14 August 2008

Final one : Lee Chong Wei...

EXCEPT for Lee Chong Wei...

it's all over for the badminton team in the Olympics after Malaysia saw the exits of :-

Woman Singles : Wong Mew Choo
Mew Choo fails to form her quarterfinal match v China's Lu Lan, going down at 7-21, 27-29.

Men's Doubles : Koo Kien Keat & Tan Boon Heong
Both of them were outplayed 16-21, 18-21 by the fast attacking Indonesian pair of Markis Kido & Hendra Setiawan, the reigning champion.

Men's Singles : Wong Choong Hann
Choong Hann squandered the chance to advance when he was beaten by Taiwanese Hsieh Yu-hsing in a third-round match. The Taiwanese lost the first game 14-21 but staged a gritty comeback to beat Choong Hann 21-17, 21-18 in 64 minutes for the biggest win of his career.

Malaysia's only hope for GOLD...
"(BEIJING, August 14) -- Badminton Men's Singles World No. 2 Lee Chong Wei cruised past World No. 5 Sony Dwi Kuncoro (Athens games bronze medalist) of Indonesia in their quarterfinal clash on August 14.

The match was surprisingly easy for Lee. Making great use of his services, he finished the first game 21-9 with a stylish 7-0 run. Dwi Kuncoro was nowhere near his normal athletic pace in the match. He was beaten again in the second game, 21-11.
In the semifinal on August 14, Lee will face either World No. 3 Bao Chun Lai of China or World No. 10 Lee Hyun-il of the Republic of Korea.-beijing2008.cn

Beat it Lee !!
