Tutorial on Altered Desk Calendar

Hi Friends,

Hope you all are enjoying this feminine themed month at Lulupu! Have you linked your entries yet, you still have one day's time left.

Today, I have a very easy project to share with you all. We all have used desk calendars at some point or another. What happens to those calendars, once the year is over? We trash them. Instead, we can use the base of the calendar to experiment with our creative side and make something unique and beautiful.

For my project, I chose an old desk calendar and removed the month pages. On the hardboard surface, I made a background with some washi tape. Yes! that awesome looking wall background is made using a washi tape. Isnt the use of this tape endless! To give it a finish, I layered some mod podge on the entire surface. Next, to add some color, I chose some green gelato, which I blended using my fingers after misting it with some water.

To add some more layers to the project, I stamped some written script from Tim Holtz stamp set, added a doily from my stash and cut out some stamped butterflies from the same stamp set. To add some interest, I colored the butterflies with some gold gelato which was blended with water. I also used some hand made rosettes in green color to go with the theme and for a pop of color.

Last, but not the least, the main sentiment is also from the same Tim Holtz stamp set, which was stamped on a waste water color paper from my stash. I love the way the color strikes a contrast with the background and the green colors. I added a string of pearls and used some foam tape to adhere the sentiment to the panel.

I hope you liked this quick tutorial on how to turn your desk calendars to a piece of beauty. Do leave some love if you felt inspired by this project.

See you all again with a new project for the next month!

Adios!

Dolly

New DT Valou going Shabby Chic

Hello Peeps!

Welcome back. Karuna here & as promised we so so excited to have yet another international crafter to join the Lulupu Team all the way from Belgium! When I received Valou's entry for the DT position I was blown away by her work and humble nature. She is amazing with her shabby chic style and fabulous at colouring images. I love the tone of shades she usually works with. Am sure she will bring in a lot of fun and joy with some great projects in the coming months.

Please join me in welcoming Valou with a big heart...... over to her....

Ola!

Valou here, I am very happy and very honored to join the DT of "Lulupu".

It is my first post today, and I am a little put under stress, lolll.

My name is Valérie ALLARD, more known under the pen name valou250809. I live in Belgium just next to the big city of Chaleroi and in 40 kilometers from Brussels.

I have 5 children from 4 to 13 years of age. I have been scrapping since 2006 and my style is the “Shabby Chic Style” but I also know how to create in a vintage style or C&S without any problem. I create a great deal of cards and of projects home decoration and totally enjoy doing it.

Thank you very much!

Now, I am going to present you my project for our new Challenge #23 - Create a
 calendar.

For making this calendar, I used a base of "Chipboard Extra Heavy". I cut it so as to have a 24 cm piece x 17 cms. Then, I painted the surface with white "Gesso" so that my paper adheres well. I used a paper " Inkido " which I used edges with "Old Distresser".

The calendar is a real calendar bought in a hypermarket. Behind every daily page, is a small joke to be told to the children. Small moment of relaxation and day fun, lol.

I used an image " Paper Shelter ". I colored it in the following way:

- Ink "Distress Tattered Rose" and inks "Distress Vintage Photo" for the skin.

- Ink "Distress Tea Dye" and "Distress Vintage Photo" for hair.

- Ink "Distress Worm Lipstick" for the dress, the lips, the cheeks and the flowers in hair.

- Ink "Distress Black Soot" for the jacket and the shoes.

- Ink "Distress Black Soot" very diluted for the tower.
- Glitter Stickels Frosted Lace for wings and underskirt of the dress.

I cut the image with small fine scissors then I stuck it with foam pieces 3-d on a die-cut realized with "Cuttlebug" and a dies " Spellbinders-Nestabilities - Majestic Ovals ". I embossed this die-cut with some powder "Frantage Shabby Pink".

I creates a small decoration of flowers and foliage in the corner and  all the flowers are covered with "Glitter Stickels Icicle".

I hope that my project inspires you.

Thank you for your love and wish you a pleasant day.

When coming to floral projects I love handmade flowers and my love for handmade flowers was by seeing Rajni ji's and Erum's work. I am always stunned seeing their work. :) Seeing this inspiring world of crafting I decided to make these awesome Gardenis.I am so very excited to show them here... Being a lazy crafter its one of the easy way to make flowers, instead of pinching and molding each petal, these beauties can be done very easily.. Yes I'm showing you a small tutorial on how to make these Gardenias...

Now about my card ..... I have made a typical floral card. A Floral card is what I always prefer for loved ones, making my own flowers and gifting it as a card gives soo much happiness to me.

Make the most of your Double-sided PP

Hi people! As you know for the second part of this month, the design team is focusing on "Maximizing pattern papers". So for my inspiration for today is : Making most of your double sided patterned papers and make your own embellishments with PP.

But before that, I want to let you all know that the winner for the 200 Follower Giveaway will be announced tomorrow. So good luck to all those to played along. :)

Now back to today's post. I made this cute little favor bag with a 6x6 MME Blink of an Eye paper pad. When I was thinking for ideas for making the most of patterned papers, I thought in the reverse order. Which are the products where I would want to have the design show on the inside as well. So I came up with the idea of a favor box. I guess these are one of the best uses of double sided PP, as you not only want the bag to look pretty on the outside, but also want it to have some color and design on the inner side.

- And lastly Photo Contest on our Facebook Page (Till March 30th)

Go ahead and don't miss a single chance to grab the goodies ..

Now coming over to my post. Who says you always need dies or punches to make gorgeous flowers ? So here you have my take on making flowers without them. Have a look at how they turned out. :)

What do you think??

So today I will be be doing a pictorial for you that will feature how to make these lovely flowers without using any dies /punches . Lets get started -

Basic Supplies required:
1. Card stock (any)
2. Glue
3. Scissors
4. Water & Sprayer for misting
5. Inks (preferably Distress Inks)

STEP - 1

Take few pieces of cardstock of your choice (any colour.)

STEP - 2
As shown above cut them into circles, remember to cut them in little wavy shapes on the edges. You don't need a perfectly round shape.

STEP - 3
Now make some small V- shape cuts on the edges as shown above. Remember the more imperfect they are, the better it is.

STEP - 4
Now distress the edges and center with any color of your choice and Spritz some water over it.

STEP - 5
Now bring the petals up from the center and give them a good scrunching!!
Spritzing water is optional at this step since I did not spritz water on the opposite side in the previous step.

STEP - 6
Open them up and allow them to dry. If you have a heat tool go head save your time and if you don't have a heat tool put your head phones on and listen to your favorite songs till nature does its thing ... :P

STEP - 7
Put them all together with a dab of glue in the centers starting with the largest circle at the bottom and layering smaller ones over it till you're done with the smallest piece and your flowers are ready.
Ooops I forgot to mention, for the center you can use pretty gems, stones, pearls or pollen of your choice.

Voila! The flowers are ready!!!!  And its time to use these super gorgeous blooms on my card

For this card I have used the pink flower. I have further distressed the edges with Picked raspberry distress ink. Coming over to the card, I have used the gorgeous pattern paper from  Prima zypher collection, doilies which I soaked in picked raspberry distress ink and added pearls and Pink Fabric Lace. Sentiment is from Hero arts .

And for the second card I have distressed the back ground and soaked doilies using Peeled paint and Mustard seed distress inks and have used brown fabric lace. Sentiment is from Hero arts. For the flowers I have used pollen in the center .

Hope you had fun making these flowers with me!!

And Happy Holi from the Lulupu Team to everyone in advance! Have a colourful, fun filled Holi and be safe.. :)

Love,
Isha
