Digital burnout!!

Finally got my hand on PSP! Bought a PSP slim yesterday while shopping at Queensway for sports stuff! It only cost me $300 and includes a 4gb sandisk memory card, 2 free soft pouchs (can get crystal case too), screen protector and free games of choice (up to memory allowance)! Thats a really great price i think!?! Yes i know the colour is a little..erhmm..but Pam liked the colour while i didn't really mind blue haha!!

The first game i got was, needless to say, Winning Eleven! And for Pam, i think she's addicted to Work Time Fun (WTF), esp Lumberjack! (see above). Now comes the problem... do i bring it to Hong Kong with me or leave it with Pam to play! I think i'll leave it to Pam cos she's gonna be bored for 11 days without me!

Asked Jeremy, who had a fren coming back from Japan to buy me his camera! Its a 8gb Canon Digital IXY ( IXUS 8601s local name) which costs me only S$410 and its retailing at S$599 in s'pore! Another great deal snagged! Thanks heaps Jems!

Alas, downgraded my HP to this laoya Nokia hp with NO camera, NO MP3, NO Radio, NO nothing... Only cost me s$78 without line.. Haiz...No choice had to do it for reasons known to few....

Your blood type determines your character... Check it out!

Something funny Pam sent!

NSL's over!

Its been a long NSL season and now its finally over. I kinda enjoyed myself umpiring this year, something i've not been able to do in the past. Why, i'm not really sure!

Post-final shackness

It could be the way mentors are helping us this year, working on our techniques rather than telling us what call was right or wrong. Or it could be i'm not feeling so much stress to perform but rather just going out to enjoy umpiring the game. Mistakes are still bound to be made, but it is crucial to not let it and also the players, coaches or the crowd affect you. If they do, the next mistake could come sooner than later, and snowballing into a catastrophy. This, i speak from personal experience!

The men do get it!

Anyways, i felt i had a pretty consistent NSL and winning the "Most Outstanding Umpire" came to me as a big surprise. If anyone were to tell me i would win the award b4 the finals, i'd be laughing my head off (i'm sure a certain TWY would be too)! Btw the finals were pretty much an anti-climax to the season, which had earlier shown promises of excitment... Didn't really think i did a fantastic final myself anyway haha! I guess i'll have to improve myself constantly! Thanks though to all those who rooted for me, fellow umpires, trainers, AMK, EVG, Zenith ppl, not too sure about players and coaches, but most importantly to Pam who've always been there for me, good or bad times! Thanks love!

Adelaide, here i come!

NSL

Umpired NSL semis over the weekend. Must say i really enjoyed myself! AMK girls came down to watch, really glad they did because the were games played much better than in the earlier rounds. They made me alittle embarressed by cheering loudly when my name was announced as the match umpire! Thanks for the support girls!

Due to the mentoring style of our trainers, i am now more able to understand my own umpiring style and to "auto-correct" certain mistakes! Being in position at the right time solves a million problems!! I must admit i made a couple more errors yesterday than sat, but now i am able to realise them almost immediately! Really looking forward to the opportunity in Adelaide, very excited!!

2nd year Anniversary with Pam!

And so 30th April marks the 2nd year i've been together with Pam. 2 years is not a really long time, but our time together seems like forever already! We decided to spend our anniversary by celebrating the whole week instead of just the actual day. So we rented a nice white Suzuki Swift (Pam's in love with that car), made a list of where we wanted to go and made a pact to be extra nice to each other! In addition to that, we spent the actual day itself pampering ourselves with a nice couple spa at the Retreat, plus a superb dinner at the new Sushi Tei East Coast Park!

At the Retreat spa, Thalossa Changi Hotel

Check out the private spa suite!

View from inside the room / Outdoor swirl pool

Happy 2nd year anniversary dear, really enjoyed all my time with you. Thank you for your unwavering support for watever i do and your patience for my quick-temper. I wish for many more happy anniversaries to celebrate with you!!

Adelaide here i come!

I'm gonna miss 2 final exams again like last year! Pretty crazy to sound like i'm excited over missing exams eh? Cos i really am! I missed the previous sem's exams with exciting trips with AMK netball to Perth and my club Zenith netball's fantastic trip to Hong Kong! This time round i am going to Adelaide, Australia!

I have been TIDed(Talent ID) as one of 2 singapore umpires for the International Schoolgirls' Tournament from the 24th to 26th May! What a fantastic opportunity to learn! Me and beeling will join up other umpires from australia and new zealand for this week long tournament at the ESTA Park, where the teams Aotearoa Maori Netball, Indigenous School Sport Australia, New Zealand Secondary Schools, Pasifika, School Sport Australia, Singapore Sports School, South Australia and Sri Lanka. will play! Its quite a big school tournament!

ESTA park is also the home ground of the Adelaide Thunderbirds and they will play an ANZ match with the NSW Swifts on the sat i am there! Super excited! The ANZ challange is where 6 teams each from Australia and New Zealand cross over to play with their own and overseas counterparts, with the level of play as high as the international matches.

So with the new lugguage that i bought, gonna ship my textbooks along withme like my previous trips! Wonder if i have any time to study...hmmmm....

End of semester nears!

Finally some breathing space!~! Doing projects at the degree level is never easy! The requirements and expectations are high from the lecturers, in addition, part-time degree students are often busy with their own work! That makes meeting up and following up on a project extra difficult! Credit to the team for pulling off this one, i think we might make it off with a pretty decent score even haha! Managed to score decent percentages for mid-sem exams, averaging 80% for them, hopefully the exams will not be so tough! Final exams draws near in 2 weeks time! Mugging time!!

Its been a long time!

Finally sometime to fill in this miserable blog which i have left empty for almost a month! Reservist took a little wind out of me and i'm still gasping for air! Alot of stuff happened since the last time i blogged!

I've become a B badged umpire! A pleasant surprise! Umpires first become a cadet after passing their theory and a 20 min practical test. Then after gaining some experience umpiring school tournaments and carnivals, they write in to be badge for C. More than a year later, they will be allowed to badge for B, same time later for A as well. But it never usually happens that quickly though!

Was tested during the first game of NSL! Thank goodness i was umpiring with Jing Qing! Always feel at ease when your co-umpire is as strong and experienced as someone like her! So i am one step away from the A badge, but as all grading systems, it gets harder as you go higher!

Umpired the Nationals Finals between Sports school and IJ TPY on monday too. Had to miss AMK's final school challenge league game against Bedok View, but good thing they won by a nice little margin. It was great to umpire with Hairan, another very experienced umpire. I thoroughly enjoyed myself umpiring this match! It was exciting, very good level of play and most importantly, the players were really disciplined. Very enjoyable match to umpire, both teams truly deserved to be playing in this final!

After "wasting" 3 weeks in reservist, i was desperately trying to catch with school work. Had to rush right till 5am of the presentation day itself! Luckily the standard of my work was not too far away from the rest of the class... Now i have an exam on thurs which i have to burn midnight oil again for, another presentation and 2 more reports due next week! Thank goodness NSL is taking a weekend off! Phew! I wouldn't be umpiring on sundays due to classes as well! To be honest, i'm quite disappointed to miss out on that!

School trainings will end this week. Its feels like i've never been back with them for too long really. Probably because i've missed 3 weeks of training due to reservist. In a blink of an eye, the AMK seniors will be stepping down for their O levels. I guess its been a roller-coaster ride for them with tough zonals and injuries but i'm glad they never gave up despite everything. Study hard, have fun and will always be welcomed to come for training if you guys need a dose of netball!

Evergreen sec is always taking a small step back after the tournaments. We have bettered our performance last year by having both divisions in the 2nd round, this despite the irregular training frequency! But this year we only have 8 sec 1s, compared to last year's nice big group to choose from! Although the B div next year will have not much of a problem in terms of training discipline, the main worry would be the C div. It really gets me thinking whether it is worth to continue putting in so much effort for this school. Teachers have been very supportive and the some of the girls have put in remarkable effort into trainings....

In this time both Pam and i have converted! No, not to another religion or race, but we've become Korean drama converts! Never used to like korean dramas because they are either too weepy and draggy (think winter sonata), or endings that make you go "huh??" (Princess Hours). But this little drama is short, heartwarming and funny all at the same time! Think you could already guess from the songs that are playing right now! Yes its Get Karl! Oh Soo Jung!

Pam's already suffering from withdrawal symptoms, randomly fluttering her eyelids like Soo Jung, chewing off corners of the sofa pillows when Karl smiles ever-so-boyishly, and singing Sarang Han Da Myeon hundreds of times a day, everytime only the words "..Sarang han da myeon..."!! I am still trying to learn how to smile with my eyes becoming a straight line and dimples on both side of my face!
