Speaking of Maine yet again, once more. . . .

"Camp Webster, Jonesboro, Maine (written on back of mount in pencil by former owner). Photographed and Published by Wm. V. Lane, Vinalhaven, Maine. A large buck hangs upside down from a pole in front of the cabin. Also hanging from the pole are what appear to be several water foul or other large birds, plus a dark fur animal - possibly a beaver. Three shotguns and a rifle lean against the cabin by the doorway, while another shotgun leans against the tree on the other side of the deer. An elderly man stands in the doorway posing for the photographer."

I love the fact that the man is wearing a three piece, bow tie, and a watch chain while at his hunting cabin.
Note also the guns on display by the door.

A little more effort was put into this cabin, note the windows and the shingles around them, as well as the well shingled roof.

Was it his or was he just a guest?

It's the browns and the greens. The cabins in Baxter State Park.

I have had the pleasure of spending a lot of time over the years in or near Baxter State Park Maine, and never tire of going back.
While most of the time I either camped or stay in an Adirondack shelter while there, I have also stayed in the cabins.
There is something about the cabins of this state park and some national parks that says comfortable yet wilderness. For me, part of it is the Green and Brown paints they use on the logs and trim.
It just works!
So enjoy.

When I find my old photo of the cabin I stayed in I will post it.

However, here is someone else's picture of the cabin. Owl's Nest

The cabins at Katahdin Lake Wilderness Camp

Having long loved this area of Maine I found these photos very interesting.

And some associated with Girl Scouts

Some log cabins associated with the Boy Scouts

This one was featured on Barn Wood Builder and you can support it's rebirth here.

Dan Beards cabin.

And a couple log illustrations by D.C. Beard

This one is also on the PCT - 'Boy Scout Cabin'

As are these two old timers.

Movies with log cabins - 'Wild'

While more about getting over loss than about getting lost in the wilderness, occasionally we get a glimpse of the wild in 'Wild'.
But that never was the point of the book or the movie.

Most of the film was shoot in Oregon and many other locations had to stand in for actual spots on the PCT.

But the film did feature a few log cabins in a site standing in for Kennedy Meadows.

Paulina Lake Lodge stood in for Kennedy Meadows. And we do get a glimpes of a couple of the cabins in the film.

And a log cabin from the real Kennedy Meadows.
