Go Aztecs!
Saturday we went to the SDSU vs. UNLV football game. Logan worked the a.m. shift so we had a chance to actually do something together on Saturday night! It was the last game of the season and surprisingly they won... I say surprisingly because it was only their second win for the whole year! It was a lot of fun but really cold! We took Afton along and didn't have to hold her the whole night! It was a nice break for me since she insists on being held all he time! She was great.... didn't fuss at all. There were even fireworks and a canon that went off everytime we scored a touch down... but still not one fuss from her. She's so good for other people.
The whole group: Josh, Kelly, Me, Logan, Emily, and Kris.
Afton just chillin... being unusually good for Kelly.

Hospital visit #2
Well nursing Afton has not been a walk in the park. She wasn't able to latch so I've been having to use a breast shield but even with the breast shield nursing was painful. I also kept getting breast infections (2 and started to get a 3rd). She wasn't a good nurser from the beginning because she was was what they call late preterm... which typically early babies have a harder time nursing. Anyway I decided to go to his breastfeeding support group just to continue to get help from the lactation specialist. One of the nurses that was helping me at the group meeting noticed that Afton had a tight frenum. Babies with tight frenums can't latch. We had a few other people take a look at it and sure enough she did. Logan and I had noticed that she couldn't really stick out her tongue but hadn't thought about that being the reason she wasn't nursing well. About two weeks ago we went to the ENT Dr. and he said she needed to have it cauterized but that if we would wait until she was 4 weeks old then she wouldn't have to stay in the hospital over night and instead would only have to stay 6 hours after the surgery. Of course before agreeing to have the surgery I called the best doctor in the world to get his ok....Dr. Jones. He said that putting the baby under light anesthesia was fine and that cauterizing was best because it would never grow back. So I felt good about doing it after getting his approval. I hope that one of these days I can find a doctor that I trust as much as him... but probably not. So we set the date and went in last Thursday to have it done. It was very sad for me. First, I couldn't feed her for four hours before the surgery... she likes to eat every two so she was really hungry. Then of course we couldn't be in the operating room while they did it... I just kept thinking of her in there by herself... so sad. Then, when she starting waking up they came and got me because she was screaming. I got back there and she was sooo out of it. She couldn't really be comforted and her tongue was still numb so she couldn't eat with the breast shield. Luckily I had pumped during her surgery and so I gave her the bottle and slowly she started getting some down. The hardest part for me was the that they ended up giving her an I.V. It wasn't the fact that she had one but how the nurse took it out. She kept grabbing where the needle was. Afton would stop feeding when she did that and start screaming. Finally I told the nurse that she was pressing where the needle was and she said "oh that doesn't bother them... it's the tape that they hate." I've had I.V.'s before and I'm pretty sure it's not the tape that's uncomfortable... if someone was pressing down where my needle was I'd get pretty mad too. So I was happy when she finally got the needle out and Afton could relax. It was also sad because the gas and oxygen that they gave her give babies really bad gas. The rest of the day and the following day she was really uncomfortable from all the gas she had and from the stiches in her tongue. So, I'm glad that's over! So far I haven't gotten another breast infection... it's the longest I have gone without one! And best of all... she's finally starting to latch on her own. It's still and little painful because she still doesn't quite know how to use her new tongue, but it's getting better.

Afton at 4 weeks
Afton had to have a minor surgery this last week (Thurs Nov.13).... we'll talk about that in another post... but we were happy to find out that she has consistently been gaining 2oz a day since she was born. She was 6lbs 1oz when she was born then got down to weighing 5lb 12oz and on Thursday she weighed in at 9lbs. We thought she had been getting big because she has really been feeling heavy and she's getting the cutest rolls everywhere... on her neck, her arms, her legs. We love it. She also grew 2 inches... so she's moving up there! Here are some pictures of the last two weeks.
She loves falling asleep in the car... so I love driving her places.
Sometime when Logan is burping Afton she works so hard to try and suck on his fingers that he just lets her.... this time she bit him. Now he somewhat knows how I feel... but not really. Yes, we have a biter.
Bath time... she's usually screaming during this.
Finally asleep. It's really funny how her hair grows. It's really long in the back and on the sides and pretty short on top.... so it kinda grows in the old man hair, horse shoe shape.
We were laughing at how cute she looks in these pj's that grandma got her.
Love those chubby cheeks.
Her four week old picture. Getting this picture was sooo hard. The first time we went in to take them she decided she was hungry even though she had just fed. So she screamed and screamed then peed on me and pooped on Logan.. haha... he got the worst end of the deal. So we took her back two days later and she did great but the lady taking the pictures did horrible! There were only two pictures that were worth keeping... and this is one of them. :)

We Voted
I know this blog is a little late but... WE VOTED! Afton had a doctors appointment with the ENT that day but we still made it! I'm pretty pleased with how things turn out. :) I'm happy to say that so far I have never missed voting in an election since I've been able to. Hopefully it will stay that way! I love excercising my rights as an American and voting in all our elections.

Visitors
Two weeks ago my dad came into town and we got to hang out with him for a couple of hours. Then last weekend Ash and Mike came down to visit. It was nice having alot of help with changing diapers, burping Afton, carrying her, holding her, pushing her in the stoller..etc! Wish they were around all the time! Thanks for coming to see us!
Grandpa and Afton
Ash and Mike. They were pretty entertained by her gas.
Apparently snuggling with Ash is really comfortable!

Halloween
Logan had to work on Halloween so we really didn't get to do much. I was really excited that we had a trick or treater. I wasn't expecting any since we live in gated apartments but, we did get one. Luckily I had some candy at the house! When Logan came home from work around midnight we decided to go to Dennys and get breakfast and dessert to celebrate the holiday. On Saturday Logan worked an earlier shift and got off work at 6:30 so we planned to carve pumpkins then. Our friends Kris and Emily Holliday carved pumpkins with us since they also didn't get a chance to carve before Halloween. The pumpkins turned out great.. especially Kris'. He carved this really detailed wolf... pretty impressive! So we celebrated Halloween a day late but still had fun doing it!
At Dennys around 1:30 a.m.
In her Halloween pj's Kris and Emily got her

Logan and I shared a pumpkin. I carved one side and he carved the other. This was his side.
Kris' wolf pumpkin
My side. You can see all the way through to the other side on parts because the other side was also carved.
