Have to be CW *grin*

"(from right) Sebas, bird, bird, bird, bird, bird, bird, bird, bird, bird, bird, bird, bird, me." CW

I didn't post this picture initially, but after I read CW's caption it was so hilarious that I simply have to post it as well. Haha... worth a laugh *grin*

Manchester & Lake District, Windermere

Hey people, I am back from my trip. Apologies, because I dun have time to really document my blog nicely like I did for Spain, so I am just going to run through all the photographs.

With me are Sebastian and Chongwai. This is strictly, an Air Force Outing haha.. First day was spent in Manchester, having taken a 5hr (and rather noisy) bus ride up to the city. First stop, home pitch of Manchester city. This stadium was also used for the Commonwealth games in 2002, where our Table Tennis teams did us proud =)

Day two: In Manchester, how can you NOT visit Manchester United? Alright, even though I am an avid Liverpool fan (no, not die hard), but Manchester United does have a pool (pun intended) of fantastic players whom I admire. AND they are not as foreign-ish as Chelsea and Arsenal, whom I dun really think highly of considering they are EPL clubs (sorry Choy) haa..

And thats the Old Trafford grounds in the background, with the three explorers across the road. Its a long walk back to our B&B (hotel), and we seriously overestimated ourselves. We nearly missed the train to Windermere as a result, but as luck holds, we made it *grin*

Day 3: We are in Windermere, Lake District! It has been my Year 1 wish to come here.. and finally, I am... even though I am a couple of years late. The first thing we did was to climb up to Orrest Head Viewpoint for a view of the lake from up high. Too bad it was pretty foggy and misty today, hence it didn't really present a beautiful panoromic view.

But nonetheless, the view from the top was still breathtaking. I hate the clouds.

We got off Orrest Head, walked along the lake, and got to the adjacent town to Windermere: Bowness. Its a lightly larger (and more commercialise and tourisy) town, and it was burstling with tourists. We were a little lost on what to do, having not planned beforehand, hence, we hopped on a cruise and went with the flow (of the river!).

We hopped off the ferry at Ambleside, another little village north of Windermere. Its real quiet here, so the three of us, while waiting for the return ferry to Bowness, got coffee at the cafe, while I got to work with my camera.

Pigeons, Ducks and Seagulls (a.k.a. Nature's Dive Bombers) resting on the jetty.

I love Sepia shots.. and this photo really looks good. No we are not deliberately posing.. we were already in that pose when I realised that it would be a nice photo. So I told them to stay there, set up my tripod and took the shot.

Chongwai went to the gents just before the jetty was set to leave, SO we were at Ambleside for another 20 more minutes, hence we roamed the otherside of the village =P and here we are ;)

Day 4: Bike hike! We got up early, rented our bikes from the train station and off we go. We initially only planned for biking around the top half of the lake, but by noon, we were almost done with it.

Ending up at Sawrey, near where we would take the ferry back to Windermere means that we are going to have to make post lunch plans fast. Ok, hence we decided to give the lower half of the lake's perimeter a go too. But first, we shall get back to Bowness for lunch.

It turned out that the route to Lakeside (the southern most point of the lake) was through hills! We nearly killed our thighs going through that stretch of road. This picture was taken after we stopped to rest by the road after a darn long stretch of uphills. Note that the road STILL winds uphill. *tired*

Finally, after almost an hour and a half of frantic cycling, we were at Lakeside. Its another quiet village with a very nice pier with a great view of the lake and THAT hill you see was one of those we cycled through. Impressive looking eh?

If you look carefully, you can see a pair of rainbows in the background. It was too faint to be caught on a camera. Yup.. here we are at Orrest Head again after returning the bikes, waiting, and hoping for a glorious sunset. Hui Min is there too.. standing in the background..

And finally, the sun sets. It wasn't as beautiful and glorious as I hoped it will be, but oh well, its something you would not get to see often anyway =)

Day 5: A final walk around the town. We initially wanted to head to one of the towns at the outskirts of Windermere, but the 3 of us ended up wanting to just laze around and bum around in Windermere, hence we wandered the streets, checking out the novelty stores in Bowness. Another one of my favourite sepia shots ;)

After a thorough search of all the novelty shops in the town, we settled down for a cuppa at one of the open air "coffee shops". We ended up chatting, reading and stoning here for 2 hours odd. What a relaxing way to spend a vacation. lala~

Of course I am not going to stay in the cafe for that long, so after about an hour, I went off for more photographs. I took this at a private jetty. Was lucky not to have gotten chased off heh, but heck.. it was a nice photo opportunity.

Yup, that more or less concluded my 5 day sojorun in Northern England. It was a great countryside break, where I really loved the tranquility of Windermere, as compared to bustle of city life. The people there are in general, so much nicer too. I would love to return to Lake District again.

London Games 2005 : My tribute to the floorball team

19th March: London games 2005. Despite my unpleasent encounter with a totally irresponsible charge of the games, that didn't dampen the hunger of my newly built up floorball team in winning the tournament.

First round, round robin.

ICSS 11 - 1 LSESS
ICSS 16 - 8 UCLSS
ICSS 10 - 6 KCLSS

With that result, we progressed into the finals, to face LSESS again. To give credit.. and I really mean lots of credit to them, they started the games with some of them not having touched the floorball stick before, and not having played together before. But as we watched them play game by game, the rate at which they got used to each other's playing position, the rate at which they improve was simply astonishing. I dunno everyones names, but basically, well done Lawrence, Mingwei, Wailam and team =)

Finals: ICSS 9 - 6 LSESS

Throughout the game, Kailun and me didn't really play much.. to think of it, I only played 2 thirds of the 12 thirds which we played. Most of the players were beginners.. and the whole aim of floorball is to have fun, so we held back a little.

To my team: Well done =) Great skills, great grit and great playing.

Cherie: What can I say about our top goalscorer from NYU? Thanks a lot for coming, thanks for playing, and its great to have known, and played with you!

Kailun: Star player from hell. I wonder how much destruction you can manage with your weaving in and out of the defence. It will take a wall to stop you.

Sebastian: Rock solid and overflowing with confidence. Star defender who loves running circles around.. no not the opponent, but our own goalposts =P

Yaoyang: Da man! With you and Kailun supporting Sebas at the back, I think the Centers and the forwards dun even need to backtrack to defend. Steady!

Jerome: Mr nice! How come you are so nice to your opponents? Show them your dazzling skills man haha... its really amazing to see you turn and twist the ball around the opponents' legs..

Sean: Super fast winger down the right... or issit left? Doesn't matter! Haven't seen you play seriously before until today.. and that translated to a hull of goals.. Woah~

Tzern: Our Malaysian representative for Imperial! Steady winger, defend, attack, defend, attack.. don't you ever get tired? Try your Ronaldo skills if we have more space!

Changyong: One handed stick man. Your right arm must be darn powerful now man. How in the world did you manage to run round and round the opponents with just one hand on the stick?

Chongwai: Squash striker! Squash training translated into killer shots with the floorball stick once you curb the swing swing.. haa... Duracell bunny for my team. Fantastic!

Thanks a lot guys! You just made me feel that my floorball comeback since MooseMan days worth it!

Subnote: My floorball stick is still lost in translation. The least Royal mail could do for me now is to make sure that it arrives safely.

Nothing at all

Nothing you do matters Joseph.

Being nice equals being a loser... *really?*

O-o This particular entry has been spreading like wildfire, perhaps because some of us could associate with it. It does sound a trifle MCPish, so firsthand apologies to gals who dun really like the way the contents are portrayed.

Ode to the Nice Guys
This rant was written for the WhartonUndergraduate Journal

This is a tribute to the nice guys.

The nice guys that finish last, that never become more than friends, that endure hours of whining and bitching about what assholes guys are, while disproving the very point.

This is dedicated to those guys who always provide a shoulder to lean on but restrain themselves to tentative hugs, those guys who hold open doors and give reassuring pats on the back and sit patiently outside the changing room at department stores.

This is in honor of the guys that obligingly reiterate how cute/beautiful/smart/funny/sexy their female friends are at the appropriate moment, because they know most girls need that litany of support.

This is in honor of the guys with open minds, with laid-back attitudes, with honest concern.

This is in honor of the guys who respect a girl's every facet, from her privacy to her theology to her clothing style.

This is for the guys who escort their drunk, bewildered female friends back from parties and never take advantage once they're at her door,

for the guys who accompany girls to bars as buffers against the rest of the creepy male population,

for the guys who know a girl is fishing for compliments but give them out anyway,

for the guys who always play by the rules in a game where the rules favor cheaters,

for the guys who are accredited as boyfriend material but somehow don't end up being boyfriends, for all the nice guys who are overlooked, underestimated, and unappreciated,

for all the nice guys who are manipulated, misled, and unjustly abandoned, this is for you.

.....

The nice guys don't often get credit where credit is due. And perhaps more disturbing, the nice guys don't seem to get laid as often as they should. And I wish I could logically explain this trend, but I can't.

.....

*****

The above isn't the complete article. I took off some of the parts with the not-so-nice phrases which I rather not appear on my blog.

It was the opinion of someone that its time to stop being nice and become a jerk. Can you put aside what you treasure and had been nice to for such a long time, turn your back on it / (or perhaps him/her), and be a jerk? Can you really?

My friend felt that even though this article is "supposed" to make nice guys sound really good, but at the end of it, he summarized it as "Thank you for being nice. We love having you around. But please do remember you're still a loser" To him, this is disturbing. On his comment board, another friend left a track saying that a guy is nice to a girl not because he chooses to, but because he can't help it. And he doesn't expects anything return, simply because of the fact that he's nice.

Joseph: I am pretty sure you will get to read this bro, but to me, the driving reason perhaps, is because you care and love the one you are nice to. You do not expect anything in return, because by doing what you feel you are supposed to do, and gaining satisfaction and especially, happiness out from it, is what you could call, your 'returns'. It is not simply because of the fact that 'he's nice by nature and can't help it but be nice', but rather more because 'he cares, and he loves'.

I've been hurt before, but this is my opinion, my stand, and I stand firm with it.

迟到的春天

虽然春天迟到了,

花,终于开了。

Yup, I took that photograph outside my house. Weather is finally warming up, and its supposed to hit 2 digit the coming week. Well, it better, given that the Spring Term is almost at an end.

Comms Networks

Alright, resolution for Monday met. Finished my Communication Network essays, even though I think I would have to spend another half a day reading, reviewing and revising it. Looking at the disgusting statistics.. who says that engineers don't write essays? 0_o

The Disney Me

You scored as Peter Pan. Your alter ego is Peter Pan. You are a child at heart. Anything you believe is possible, and you never want to grow up.

Peter Pan

94%

Goofy

81%

Sleeping Beauty

75%

I guess Peter Pan really describes me *grin* People who know me well enough knows that I do not really want to grow up heh. As for Goofy, I am pretty neutral about it. Now, who can tell me how I could be associated with Sleeping Beauty, other than sleeping a bit too much?

Its been 2 years

This was exactly a year ago, where my committee handed down to Kai's committee to handle the Singapore Society. It has been a memorable one year in term, and a memorable one year as your senior. Thanks for the recognition of my efforts via nominating me as MOSA. I still feel that there is no doubt that Zhicheng IS the MOSA, although humble him refuses it.

Yup, the 22nd exco and the fresh 23rd faces who will carry on the job of shaping the Imperial College Singapore Society. Thank you Kaileng, Thomas, Manda, Yanda, Marvin and Lionel, Darren and Jacqueline. Presenting, Rajesh, Chongwai, Jiamin, Jiahui, Marc and Edwin, Joycelin and Liangwei.
