Stratford Upon Avon
Its was a not so bright and sunny day, but nevertheless the weather was absolutely fine for traveling. We left Beit at 0930 sharp, bound for Stratford, the hometown of the infamous William Shakespeare.
The trip there was eventless, and we arrived in Stratford at noon. First stop was of course Shakespeares birthplace. Paid an expensive (and to me, not really worth the money) 5.50 quid to enter the place. Nearly a third of the exhibits talked about his parents, another third talked about his life in London as a dramatist before we finally left the exhibition hall and headed towards the actual house where he was borne to.
Lunch was next, and most of the restaurants that we found were real expensive. At the end of the day, we ended up at the good old Macdonalds where cheap burgers were to be found. After lunch, we headed for the brass rubbing center. It appears that brass rubbing was considered an art during Shakespeares time, and this center continued that diminishing tradition. To me, nothing interesting.
We have to walked through this forage beside the river Avon to get to Trinity Church. From the walkway towards the church to the interior to the church garden, everything was beautiful. Of course, the main reason why this church is famous is that Shakespeare and some of his family members were buried here.
The last (planned) stop was the Teddy Bear museum. We only entered the shop, as it was another steep 4.50 quid to enter the teddy bear museum. However, from what was described outside the museum, it seems that this place boosts a collection of over 10,000 teddy bears, including famous teddy bears like Pooh Classics, and teddy bears owned by famous people. Wow~ but still too steep =P
It was dark by the time we left the museum, not to mention that the temperature took a drastic drop. Retreated to the warm comforts of a caf, and inevitably, the polar bear game started. From the time we entered we played, till the caf closed. That didn't stop the fanatics, but yet, we moved on to another caf (Starbucks) to continue with the polar bear hunt! Ok, if you think that was crazy enough, we continued playing on the bus until we arrived back in London.
Well, at least it was an entertaining end to the day.
