February 2012

Grayson lost his first tooth and his second tooth within days of each other.

Nate turned 11 years old!  Happy Birthday

For Nate's birthday we went to Wingers and to the movies.  We watched Journey 2 in 3D.  Pretty good!  The kids want to buy it when it comes out on DVD.  Nate's favorite flavor is mint and chocolate, so when he saw the desert that Winger's serves, he was thrilled.  He got to pick out his presents this year himself.  I would say pretty lucky.  He picked a pair of remote controlled trucks that shoot lasers at each other.  Unfortunately, his little brother Cody absolutely fell in love with one of them.  He is nice and has let him pet it.  Cody pets it, and even kisses it.  Then he tells you, "Nice." He got a remote control jeep that shoots airsoft bb's, and $money$ from my parents and $money$ from Nate's parents.  He really liked getting the birthday money.  He then ended up using his birthday money to buy a Harlem Globe Trotter basketball, and nachos (his favorite treat ever)  the very next weekend.  Which he did get signed by the whole team.

Harlem Globe Trotters

For Valentines Day we got a special treat.  We got to go see the Harlem Globe Trotters.  What a cool show.  The kids loved it.  They are so entertaining.  Grandpa Allen got to come with us, but Grandma had to work.  Grandpa spoiled the kids and bought them treats and a basketball.  We now have two signed Globe Trotter basketballs, and Cody loves them so much he slept with one that night.

Yep that guy is named Stretch.  He had the biggest crowd waiting to get their stuff signed.  I think little Nate was the last one he ended up signing that night.  If not, pretty close to last.  He is super tall.  Just to give reference.  My Nate, standing next to him, is 6 feet even.

Panguitch Lake

For Presidents Day we went to Panguitch Lake and stayed at the family cabin.  We took the Cheney family with the intent of ice fishing.  On the day they tried to go ice fishing it was just to cold.  They were unable to catch any fish or stay at the lake for very long.  For the most part, we just enjoyed the cabin.  We ate tons of food, played the wii, watched movies, played games, and took naps.  It was nice to just have a lazy weekend.

Kids had fun with a snowball fight and sleds one afternoon.

Nate really does like ice fishing.

Harrison really does not like ice fishing.  He was cold, and he had to wear Aubrie's pink gloves.

Nate earned his Arrow of light in cub scouts.  He got to do the crossing over ceremony at the pack meeting.

He was so proud to have both Grandma's and Grandpa's come to support him.

February pack meeting was also the cake auction, so we got to eat a yummy lasagna dinner with salad and breadsticks.  Then we won a reese's peanut butter cup chocolate cake for $30.  Our cake we made sold for $30 also.  All the money goes to the scouts.  Overall, it turned into a very exciting and special night.

Dog town half marathon and 9K race

We decided to register for the Dog town half marathon race the last weekend of February.  So with 1 week notice, we signed up for a race.  Nate went ahead with the full 13.1 mile race.  I felt like I was not trained enough for that distance, so I signed up for the 9K.  Because this was called the Dog town race, it had a canine theme, thus the 9K for canine.  A 9K is 5.59 miles.  When we ran it, we realized we had signed up for a mostly up hill race.  We renamed it the Dog turd race.  We were challenged.  My 9K wasn't bad, but those that ran the long race felt like it was a lot of up hill.  They don't want to run this race again at this point.  But now, we can say we have done it.

This is our before the race picture.

This is our after the race picture.
Notice Jody flexing.  She felt super strong after the race.  Notice our shorts.  They gave us shorts instead of shirts for this race.  They were a little short, so we decided to wear them on top of our pants.  I don't really do short shorts.  Not my thing.  There was a law firm that did end up sponsoring racers.  If you would wear their logo shirt, you got a shirt.  So we did end up getting shirts too. Those that ran the long race got dog tags, but Faline and I were not awarded any for our race.  We were a little disappointed in that.  More reasons to call it the Dog turd race.

Freeze Your Buns Family Fun Run 5k

 Nate and Alicia
 Aubrie and Elizabeth
Aubrie was my running buddy.  We stuck together the whole race.
Everyone was so excited before the race started.  We were gathering around fire pits trying to warm up.
After the last hard sprint to the end.  Mom and Alicia still look great.
Grayson aka Dash off of the Incredibles.  We just try to keep him in sight.  Nobody can keep up.  He was the first of the kids to cross the finish line.  His running buddy was his daddy and Cody in the stroller.  He actually got the youngest buns award for being the youngest runner there.
Nate and Grandpa were running buddies.  Alicia, Big Nate, and I went back the last block to support him across the finish line.
Both Nate and Aubrie cried as they crossed the finish line.  It was so big to them.  They didn't think they could do it.  They did!  Good job guys.
 The Breinholt Clan
Grayson even poses like a super hero.
After the race they held a raffle and Grandpa was the very first winner.
We had a big group, and lots of fun.  The kids did great and I am so proud of them.  My friends ran super fast.  I am excited to try and keep up with them too.  I just hope I can.

Frisco

Frisco
We got to spend the day exploring Frisco.  The kids had a hard time understanding what a ghost town was at first.  They thought we were taking them to a haunted house.  They finally got the meaning of ghost town as we explored the cemetery and the empty town.  They were amazed at the amount of graves that belonged to children.  Grayson found one that belonged to a boy his same age and he couldn't believe it.  We got to have lots of discussion about how hard life was for people then, and how easy life is for us now.  These first pictures are of the cemetery.

Grayson walking from the cemetery to the houses.  At this point he was still thinking it would be a haunted house.
The kids were surprised to see how small the houses were.  They hadn't realized that all the kids shared bedrooms, and they didn't have a bathroom inside.
Aubrie was having a grouchy moment.
Nate and Nate loved exploring the ruins and collecting all kinds of treasures.  Uncle Nate helped point out neat old nails and core samples from the mine.

These two just had to climb down and peek inside.  The younger kids wanted to but I just couldn't let them.

After Frisco we stopped at the gun range and spent the rest of the afternoon shooting guns.  Nate loves to shoot.  He shot and shot until Grandpa and Dad made him get in the truck.
Grayson loved shooting too.  He almost gave everyone a heart attack several times with his lack of safety knowledge.  Dad had to keep a close eye on him the whole time.
 So Cool!
It turned out to be a great day.  The kids had a great time.
