2007: A reflection. Many memories.

2007 is finally reaching its very end and by tomorrow it will another new year, 2008. It has been one great and memorable year for me. Most importantly, this is a year of change. A lot of drastic change in the course of my life occur in the year 2007. Sweet or bitter, its still a part of my memories. So now lets have a brief rundown on the memory lane,on what happened throughout this one year...

- My very first proper part time job-Temporary tutor at tuition centre. Small class, cute student, a little extra money to keep. Met my former classmate which I lost contact since form3.

- My very first REAL job with paycheck: Temporary teacher in my primary school.
> Meet lots of student...ranging from really excellent to amusing and funny until downright annoying.
> Volunteered to lead my school's choral speaking team. We all went through it together my dear student!!!!
> Virgin experience of planning test paper. Marking my own test paper done by myself is a good experience.
> Realized that a student now is way different that what I have been before.
> Realized that parent these day pamper their children so much...even when their children totally did not deserve it. If the parent who complained me are those of troublesome children, I hope they realized their children will never have a good future.
> Realized that rancangan pengajaran tahunan is one useless red tape crap. And I feel totally headache about it.
> My first bitter experience of office politics. Some of the teacher are just conniving, evil, selfish Bxxtches and SOBxxtches and scheme against one another. And I am one of the victim...
> Realizing my primary school isn't the one I knew anymore...it changed so much and most of them were turning for the worse...
> Found out that my former teacher which became the headmistress is very much a hypocrite and I am pretty pissed inside when she says I am quite arrogant(I just being silent, OK?!) and look down on the other teacher who can only get diploma while I go to university and get a degree...in a very nice motherly tone...when I think back it just make me sick and seeing bleak future for the school. And now I DO look down on them for degrading the teaching's profession.
> OVERALL: Teaching profession ain't something that worth hype up with. Totally kill off my idea of teaching profession. You can say teaching these day totally decayed in a sense...

- STPM result day. The day we receive our result slip is the day we bid farewell to school uniform life...for one last FINAL time where there is no turning back... 1A(PA), 2A-(Bio and Math) and 1B+(Chemistry). 3.67. Kinda proud with myself for performing up to my standard with respectable result.

- Driving lesson, test and P license.
> Discovered that why private driving school doesn't help in improving the quality of driving...or lowering the number of roadkill. Almost all of them are commercially driven and paid little attention to educate the driver...and of course, back room deal and such.
> Learned the true meaning of patience...WTH my tutor takes forever to settle my P license issue with JPJ!!! I only got it in like last month while my test ended somewhere April or May...
> I still suck and scared of driving. Such a loser driver...

- Successfully applied and entered my course and university of my choice: Bachelor of Arts Translation and Interpretation of Universiti Sains Malaysia, main campus.
> Enjoying living outside without parents for long period of time. Much awaited freedom to make decision at last.
> Meeting lots of new friend from various places across Malaysia.
> Discovered that there are many Sarawakian coursemate in my course.
> Amused a lot of people by choosing this course as my first choice despite the reasonably high pointer.
> Taking foreign language (Japanese) for the first time.
> Manage to loose some weight with at least 5kg gone.
> Got my very first laptop from my cousin...need some time to get used to the small keyboard size...plus first time shopping in PCFair buying external harddisk.
> PTPTN documentation approval is crazy...JPA documentation approval is almost crazy except in a much smaller scale. Some part of my life during and after uni are binded by agreement with JPA.
> Exceeding the limit of staying up late...once stay up until 5pm in the morning fighting through assignment/project last minute...need to hand up by morning...
> Discovered that my distaste for extra curricular or sports activities lives on...except the next one:

-Joined AIESEC @.
> Discovered that we can have lots of fun while working hard.
> Adapt to squaredance, screaming the rollcall and jingle while in the restriction of formal wear.
> Active learning and participation in taking responsibility and leadership especially in Youth Alive HIV/AIDS Awareness Project and process of being a Junior Executive of Learning.
> NLDS in UM: currently my most impactful AIESEC eXPerience. Check my series of NLDS updates and you will see how impactful can it be.
> Pretty much successfully making my uni life much more interesting...

One year had passed and another year will arrive soon. Now, the only thing I can do now: waiting the clock to reach 12 midnight, sing Auld Lang Syne and bid farewell to the bittersweet year of 2007. At the same time of course welcoming and yearning for one fruitful year of 2008...This post might be the last post of the year 2007...

p.s. Actually this post at first wasn't the one I want to post to conclude year 2007. In fact my original draft was way more melancholic compared to the normal tone of this post. But then I realized, there is nothing to be worried about in the end and I somewhat don't really like the end product(arrangement of words, paragraphing and such) and the overall feel of it. Finally, I just save that draft in my own computer( just in case I will post it in the future) and typed this year end reflection post which sounds and feel much better.

Kuchingites worship *Kuching* food.

Disclaimer: All the pictures features are taken from sources online using GoogleImage search engine including personal blogs. Any infringement of copyright(if there is one) was purely unintentional and the post is done with pure love for Kuching and Sarawak food.

*LOL So formal*
Kuching, the great city with the great food and great people.

One thing that any Kuchingites abroad will definitely miss is definitely, THE FOOD. KUCHING FOOD. And for me being at another food haven (Pearl of Orient aka Penang) makes me realize how much I miss Kuching food and how does it differ from what I have now.(Not a bad thing actually) With plethora of food with local touch that Kuching can offer, it is almost OBLIGATORY for any Kuchingite blogger to blog about and pay tribute to the glorious Kuching food that we all dear most. It is basically...our second religion...*bow down for Kuching food*. Without further a due, lets get it on!!!!

KOLO MEE (干捞面)
Of all the food in Kuching, Kolo mee is definitely the one that can be considered as the signature dish and true representative of a Kuchingite. Anyone who came here without eating a bowl of kolo mee doesn't know Kuching at all. So what exactly is kolo mee?

Kolo mee is basically noodles(very different from the peninsular wantan mee type) flash boiled/blanched/or whatever term that suits and drip dry (hence 干捞), then flavored/mix around with white vinegar, oil with fried red onion/garlic and the most important ingredient of all, Char siew Oil!! The reddish looking char siew oil is the key ingredient that makes the distinctive flavor and reddish color of kolo mee. Even though it is optional, but I personally feel that kolo mee without char siew oil is not really kolo mee. Kolo mee is classically topped by char siew and minced pork with a little sliced shallots but other variations are available as well. Its is quite easy to make actually if you have the ingredient and appliances ready. I know because my dad sell kolo mee at pasar malam for a few years after his retirement in airforce. But soon he got himself a better job as technician in power plant and he got himself a better rest.
A typical kolo mee...but I prefer it to be served in Porcelain bowl with chicken pattern...

So which place/stall/kopitiam sells the best kolo mee in Kuching? Actually this is highly debatable and depends on the eater's personal taste and experience. Plus most of the stalls have different..formula on their char siew oil or on making kolo mee so its kinda hard to reach a general consensus about it. The most common suggestion are the KY Cafe of Sekama Road(recommended by KennySia) and Green Road.(opposite of SMK Green Road which is Jess's school) But for me my personal favorite are much more closer to home(literally), Fatt Fatt Kopitiam which is within walking distance. I had always been eating their kolo mee since back in Kindergarten when my father always bring me there for breakfast before he goes to work. For certain reason, they closed down when I am in secondary school and I was pretty much devastated. But they came back at the start of 2007 carrying the same name and most importantly, the same kolo mee that I had been eating with the same porcelain bowl with chicken pattern since years ago. Since then I always drop by their kopitiam to eat their kolo mee for breakfast. And during the last semester break, I went there during my first day back in Kuching and I had my last bowl of kolo mee at the last day before I came back to Penang also at Fatt Fatt. So basically, I grew along with kolo mee ^_^.

Kolo mee captivates the heart of all Kuchingites abroad and most of them who came back to Kuching will tapao kolo mee in bulk before they gone abroad again, besides to savor it themselves, give and share to all their friends and acquaintances especially the other Kuchingites who can't go back to hometown because of works or others. I, myself did that as well when I go back home during study break last semester. I tapao 10 packs of kolo mee to bring it over to USM and I was like so worry I will be stop by the custom at airport LOL. In the end, I reach USM with kolo mee in my bag and I message all the Kuchingites friend to come and get their order of Kolo mee. It was very heart warming for all of us cos at least we have a taste of home in the foreign land. For our muslim friend however, the classic kolo mee are totally non-halal and even though there are malay stall that sell halal version of kolo mee(subsituting char siew with chicken) but it doesn't feel the same without the red of char siew oil...
A typical serving of kolo mee will also include a small saucer of sliced cili in vinegar as condiment. But of course, a typical meal of kolo mee will not be complete without the famous 3-layered Teh-C-Peng which is the drink in this pic!!!

THREE LAYER TEH-C-PENG
A relatively young invention/concoction that explode into a city-wide phenomenon, Three layer Teh-C-Peng is different than the normal Teh peng because we use evaporated milk instead of condensed milk.
The birthplace of Three layered Teh-C-Peng, Fresh Food Court

Actually the birthplace of three layer teh-c-peng phenomenon is also very close to home(literally) where my row of house is basically right behind the shoplot where Fresh Food Court is. My town, Kota Sentosa(also known as 7th mile) finally have an accolade that we can live up with besides the dubious honours for having the only asylum/mental hospital in the island of Borneo. Now, almost all the kopitiam across Kuching sell three layer teh-c-peng but everyone knows that original is always the best!! So come to my town and I will treat you teh-c-peng!!!
A colorful three layer of Teh-C-Peng.

So what makes up a three layered Teh-C-Peng? The darkish bottom layer is actually gula melaka, then the white layer is the evaporated milk then followed the light brown layer which is a mixture of tea, evaporated milk and sugar water. Then by the general understanding of simple physic on density of liquid, you have yourself a three layer teh-c-peng!!! We are suppose to mix this three layer up which will create a very rich and sweet mixture. Some really smart kopitiam owner goes even further by offering 4, 5 or more layered teh-c-peng which can be sago, pandan, cincau and even more! So if anyone of you wanna come over to Kuching and/or tumpang at my house, this one should not be missed!!

LAKSA SARAWAK
If Kolo mee is the guilty pleasure for only the Kuching Chinese and non-muslim, then Sarawak laksa will be the one that is guilty pleasure for every single one of Sarawakian regardless of religion and racial background. Its what we call, an all-sarawakian breakfast.
A typical laksa Sarawak. Tasty eh?

Sarawak laksa not just look different, it taste way different than all the other laksa variant across Malaysia. One major difference about Laksa Sarawak is that we use rice vermicelli(BeeHun) instead of other types of noodles. The broth is spicy, coconut milk and prawn paste based and it is topped with sliced strip of fried egg, sliced chicken meat, a couple or more prawns(size depend on those who cook it) and beansprout(taugeh).
Great breakfast to start a day: A bowl of laksa and a warm cup of Teh C...

Usually Laksa Sarawak will be served along with a small saucer of belacan and half of those small lemon thingy.(I forgot whats the official name of it) There many way of eating your laksa with the belacan and lemon. Some will squeeze the small lemon juice onto the belacan on the small saucer, mix it up a little and act as an condiment. Then, some people(like my younger bro for example) prefer mixing the belacan and lemon INTO the laksa which add the spicyness even more with a little touch of sourness. I, who can't really take food that is too spicy, prefer to just squeeze the lemon into the laksa and thats it. I love my laksa with sourly taste. And of course there is the last choice: eat it as it is without touching the belacan and lemon. It all depends on personal taste actually.

Again, the place which sells the best laksa had always been a subject of debate of all Kuchingites, with many people including Kenny Sia recommend ChongChoon of Padungan Road, Foody Goody's of Tabuan Stutong, Bormill and more...it all come down to personal taste and preference and there is always the pleasure of discovering more and more place that sells good food.

KUEH CHAP
Kueh Chap, a teochew delicacies(Kuching has sizeable population of Teochew besides Hokkien and Hakka) is basically flat rice noodle(most of them the triangular type but some use kueh teow) cook in slightly salty dark coloured broth and top with seasoned hard boiled egg, dried tofu and all sorts of PIGS part: meat, stomach, intestine, liver, you name it. Same like laksa, it came along with a small saucer of belacan and lemon which can either be used as a condiment or additional spice into your kuehchap. My younger brother, again prefer the second type while me which can't stand too much of a spice will just squeeze the lemon juice into my kuehchap. To be simple, its a bowlful of pigs organ. LOL And since it is full of pigs, kueh chap is strictly non-halal. Don't let the dark colour of the broth and the content scares you, it is actually much more delicious then its look. Again, place for the best kueh chap is always on debate from 3rd mile, Poh Kwong Park to Petanak Wet Market at night.
Kueh Chap...the best pig part for me is the intestine.

TOMATO MEE/KUEHTEOW
Tomato KuehTeow is basically fried but unseasoned flat rice noodle(kueh teow) cook in a thick tomato flavoured soup and top with vegetable, char siew, slice fish cake, slice squid, prawn etc. Tomato mee has the same soup but the mee(usually the same time as the one used for kolo mee) was first deep fried to make it crispy and then it is served in the same fashion of YeeMee here in peninsula. Me and my younger brother have personal experience with Tomato KuehTeow/mee and we still cook it once in a while at home for breakfast. No more char siew though ever since my dad stop selling kolo mee at pasar malam. Anyway, usually I am the one frying the kueh teow and get the other ingredient ready while my younger brother is always the cook of the tomato soup. His tomato soup is the bomb and the tomato soup that I cook myself still can't match of my younger brothers. Him along with my elder brother seems to inherit my father's touch of cooking while I suck at it. But who cares if they will be the one cooking instead of me!!! LOL
Tomato KuehTeow. I will ask my younger bro or parent to cook for you if anyone of you come to my house!!!

REAL TRADITIONAL SARAWAK CUISINE: MIDIN & AMBAL
When you want to talk about real Sarawakian cuisine, these two gotta be the best that should appear on your lunch table: Midin and Ambal.

Midin is how Sarawakian call the fern or pucuk paku in Bahasa Malaysia. But the midin that we cook are much smaller than pucuk paku and usually we choose the top part of the shoot to be cooked. Midin are widely available in the typical wet market and usually sold in small bundle. Once in a while my mom will buy a bundle back and cook it for dinner. There are two major variant or style to cook your midin: first is fried with Belacan while the other version is fried with a dash of white wine or tuak. My personal favorite: fried with white wine or tuak. In fact everyone in my family love this version and it has very nice aroma of white wine beside the normal crunchy bite of midin. A must try for everyone.
Midin fried with BelacanMidin cooked in white wine...mmm tasty!

Another must try for the seafood is Ambal which is bamboo clam. With Kuching's proximity to the sea, Kuching offers plenty of choice for seafood but Ambal is uniquely Sarawakian. This odd looking shellfish with tube shape shell can be easily found along the coastline and delta of river of Sarawak. It can be cooked in various way whether it is steamed or in curry. My parent buy one whole bag of bamboo clam when my parent goes to fishermen's kampung with my uncle to get the freshest seafood. So in the end, my dad cook in both ways: half steamed, the other half in curry. I love both variant but steamed bamboo clam are one notch higher as it is in the natural sweetness and flavor of the shellfish untainted by seasoning. The steam water/juice is naturally sweet and I can't get enough of it!!!
Ambal or bamboo clam cooked in curry.

SEAFOOD KOLO MEE of HongYan, Sekama Road

Ahha, this one is a little bit more special then the rest of food that I featured here. Why, you ask? Well it is not just touted as the best seafood kolo mee in Kuching(as per recommended by KennySia and all the other patron), it is also highly related to one very close friend of mine which I know really well. He is none other than...
Yes, its him, His Majesty Tua Pao king of UNIMAS, YangLip aka Joaquin Lip!!! Don't get weirded out by him though, he is very friendly and damn hilarious!!!

To be precise, HongYan was operated by YangLip's parent and they specialized in making seafood kolo mee. Their shop was pack from early morning and it will be sold out well before noon. Aunty really takes her time making each bowl of seafood kolo mee even though there are many people waiting(all of us are willing to wait, actually) but its worth the wait as you savor on one perfectly made bowl of seafood kolo mee. And even though their price are relatively expensive compared to other competitor(RM 5.50 per bowl), it is still greatly adored by all the patron who visited here because it is just that good!!!
That's aunty's back and you can see the price over there, RM5.50 per bowl. But worth it!!!
Here it is, the famous HongYan's seafood kolo mee!!!

The noodle used for this seafood kolo mee was vastly different as it was much more tangier and it is top with generous amount of juicy prawn, minced pork, meat ball, fish ball, pork liver, vegies etc. Another notable thing that is worth mention is that aunty will know the exact portion that you can eat which can make you full. I came across this before our fieldtrip to UNIMAS with YangLip, Owen, SanHui and BeiShan. The ladies was served in a smaller portion but approximately filling while me and Owen being a big guy served in a bigger portion. I don't know whether is because aunty know us already or some other reason but it is very personal and good for business as well. Knowing every customers need. And another thing that is also worth mentioned is the cleanliness of the shop. It is FAR MORE CLEANER than any kopitiam in Kuching with marble lining the wall and floor. Their table are spotlessly clean without a single black spot. I heard from Owen that they clean their shop thoroughly EVERYDAY, scrubbing the wall and the table and the chair after their business is done by noon. Their daily hard works earn them a very well-deserved A class from the City Council, almost second to none in all kopitiam.

One thing that we found slightly hilarious though, is how serious and concentrate YangLip is when he was helping his mom with the chores. He totally did not pay attention to us and totally committed to his job which makes him almost...un-him.(actually it was us that is an distraction for him) But since it is a family business, it is correct for him to be serious when he is working. We love you when you are funny but we also love you when you are committed. *muaks*

Finally, my very first Kuching post is done!!! It takes me like 5 hours plus(including searching the photo) just to make this post and actually there are still a very long list to go for what can Kuching offer to satisfy all the food connoisseur across the nation. Kuching are not food haven for nothing!!

-END OF XMAS-

So basically, all I did in these two day was...

NOTHING.

Btw, Paul's blog heading changed to Heaven sings tonight. The first thought that flashes into my mind when I saw that in my Xmas eve night was: "Obviously not my part of the sky" Luckily things did turn out a little better on Xmas but all I could hear from Heaven were faint melody...

And judging from the way I blogged this post, anyone can see that I am pretty dry on idea and material to blog. I. NEED. INSPIRATION. And my Japanese class will start in half an hour time. Better get going now! I will be back, hopefully, with better post to end 2007. New Year is a-coming!!!!

5th day of NLDS: episode finale...*sobz*

Finally...we reached the last day of NLDS...this will be the last post of NLDS(even though I really don't want to end this) so lets get on to the stories...

When I do my final packing before going to the usual morning plenary, I feel the sudden sadness: its the end of a great journey, a journey that will definitely leave a huge impact in me , a journey that i worth memorable forever and everything have to end today... After tidy up the room and stuff, obviously we need to check out of the hostel including the pillow and the bedsheets. Lugging a heavy bag in one hand and pillow along with bedsheet is not an easy task and and I was basically keeling by the time I reached the check out place at the main entrance. After that, we put our bag into Rashid's van and the delegates goes to the plenary hall by bus...

Since today is the very last day of NLDS, Stefan told us that we will do our traditional role call as well as the "satisfy" clap. All other uni's are doin there traditional role call as well. (Finally the pervertedness of UPM comes out!!!! Big one small one ROFLMAO!!!!) After all the buzz of rollcall ends, all of us back to our group again for one last time for today. We fill in the delegate handbook(in which I, unfortunately lost a few days ago) with our hopes and expectation after we are done with NLDS.(in the meantime, Victor is enjoying himself kacau-ing dozing Rowena by taking her napping photo) Later we have our sharing session together and share what the greatest impact that we experience throughout NLDS. And by today, my voice is pretty much...gone!! I sounds like cacated Louis Armstrong ROTFL. One last group photo taking ensues...(see below) Then later during lunch time all of us decide to have sit together gether having lunch and talk about everything under the sun...definitely one great moment of bonding...signatures and sharing of contact ensues as well to keep in touch with everyone...By the way, all of us where given a "sugarcube" which is an envelope. We write our name and paste it at the wall marked with respective LC. The function of this sugarcube is for anyone of us to leave message and well wishes and anything. I still keep my sugarcube...cos I was a part of my memories and experience...
The Hunky Hottie Hippies (HHH)!!!!
Acting funny...I miss all of you!!!! Go HHH!!!!

When the lunch is over, is back to the plenary hall again to have our one last session and moment before we leaves. But before all the mushy stuff begins, they start off with the launching and introduction of new Information system for AIESEC International, myAIESEC.net, with very cute claymation ad to go along with it. Then Janne, our Finnish faci wanna clarify the delegates "misconception"(But all of us know its deliberate LOL) about Finland and he reveal what is the rare exports of Finland...Santa Claus!!! How they hunt and train the wild Santa before exporting it to the public across the globe...and heres the youtube vid!!! This video was done by Art student of Finland...extremely hilarious and the best Xmas video ever!!!!!

The second part of it, just to make the video complete:

After all the funny stuff ends, its time for the mushy stuff. Everyone of the Faci and the MC shared their experience and stuffs. Alan made really heartfelt speech about how multiple failure will make one person more matured, experience and more successful than ever before.(he speaks from his own experience of failing in applying LCP and MC which leads to a greater experience that he have now being the chief Faci aka Captain Impact.) When the mushy music is played and the emcee announced that all of us should go and hug anyone that had leave an Impact in us throughout this 5 days of NLDS, all of us went up and go around hugging all our friends. All the emotion that we tried to hold on in the sharing session with Faci and MC finally poured out in this part. ShuLi cried, Belinda cried, a lot of people cried. Me? I...wasn't. In fact i was feeling a little empty and incomplete. Maybe is because that one day that i absent from which cause lack of bonding with my groupmate. But still, I still give Victor a hug, Conrad a hug and Rowena a handshake. (She did promise that she will meet me again in MSN, but until now, she hasn't been online yet?!) After that, I just spend my time with Rubini(who also standing there as well as an audience) and shared my emptyness with her. Well it was inevitable cos i was in really bad shape that day... Anyway, after all those hugging and such, its time for one last photo before we leaves and go on our seperate way!!!!

Look at how I hold Isac's hand. We are like...a couple!!!

Most of us go back with our own transportation but some of them ask OC to buy bus ticket for them to go back...so they go back on the very end of the day...LOL can only reach back to Penang by late night. LCUKM have their own bus to send them back to UKM and those people who drives a car here...drives their car back...Isac, HuaKhee, SiewWen stayed back for a few more days though...KL trip!!! As for me...my cousin with her BF comes and pick me up from there...and it was right at the end of our impromptu B.U.D.A.Y.A. meet!!! Have to make them wait for a little while haha!!!!

So overall, it has been a memorable and impactful experience for me. New friendship were made and current friendship was deepen. We meet highly successful people from the corporate world and have a wonderful learning experience with them. We deepen our understanding about ourselves and also issues that surrounds us. Most importantly, we meet lots of people from all walks of life but common in one way: we are all NLDS delegates. We have our highs and low throughout this 5 days, but most importantly, we went through this together and we had FANTASTIC FUN. Hope to see all of you again in the nearest time, hope to see all of you as an truly successful AIESEC-er...

LCUSM...We ROXX!!!!!!

Now, I will depart from the land of UM using my super spacecraft...nahh its just the futuristic looking Post graduate building of Fac of economy and administration...bye!!!

And this is the end of NLDS. How much I wish it wasn't the end of it *sniffle*

4th day of NLDS: Simulation in motion...

Yet another day of NLDS...and now its day four!!!!! I personally name this day: simulation in motion because it involves...SIMULATION! Am I talking crap?! Here's the story...

The days starts off again in the typical fashion of any NLDS days: morning plenary, roll calls, and...is there punishment? Arr, who cares but anyway...todays event starts off with the Exchange simulation and later in the evening is the LCP mock election. For the Exchange simulation, its back to our groups again(go HHH!!!!) and the groups(4 groups per planet to be precise) are divided into planets according to the faci's assigned.(my planet's faci are Schvonne and Eloise the Aussie Faci) The simulation works like this: first of all, an LCP will be chosen for the groups then we will be assigned to a country(namely Finland, United Kingdom, Turkey and...Burkina Faso...its an african country for those who dunno) then whole process of exchange begins!!!

The faci of our planet, Schvonne starts choosing the LCP for each of our group...and I was chosen as the LCP of HHH!!! I was so surprised that I was chosen WTH! And then of course, assignment of identity: HHH is ......Turkey...and here comes the Turkey pun...First job being the LCP is choosing two exchange participants(EP) and dividing the rest of the team into Incoming Exchange(ICX) and Outgoing Exchange(OGX). All of us receive our respective task and off we go...to a what I call a rather confusing start. We were given our countries' profile which list down the founding year of AIESEC in Turkey, culture, issues and such so we need to read through it . The OGX have to raise our EP while the ICX have to read through the company profile and understand the matching documents of traineeships. This is when the confusion comes in: there is only one paper for the company profile and it was pass around until it is pretty much gone. Confusion also exist for Schvonne and Eloise cos I think everyone of us dunno when to start the matching of exchange form and how exactly the its gonna be done. The explanation on the task paper aint clear either adding to the craziness of the simulation. As for me, I have no idea what should I do as well so the only thing that I did: go around and copy each and every country profile there. LOL I was complained by Victor cos I was spending too much time at the OGX team than ICX especially when there are in the confusion of when and how to do the matching of documents.

After much waiting finally the matching starts. Only now we understand how does it works: the exchangers have sell the exchange and convince the faci to go on exchange. Only then we can get our form and know where exactly our EP have been exchange to. After that everything is pretty much smooth with final preparation like the culture that we need to potray when our EP go for exchange or when there is foreign EP coming in. LOL we gobble like a real turkey and KFC in Turkey is KTC. So much for the countries' info given!! Then later, our Faci announced its time to Exchange!!!! Now this is fun!!! All the EP's went flying around(btw, onne of us gone to Finland while the other one goes to UK) while we receive two foreign EP, one from Finland while another one come from Burkina Faso. All of us are basically fooling around sharing our supposibly "culture" to each other. Damn funny!!! After that the Faci's announced that the exchange is over and we need to bid farewell to our foreign EPs while welcoming back our own EP from foreign countries. One last meeting where the EP will share their exchange experience with all of us while we keep them updated about the EP's that we received during their absence. Then this is the end of exchange simulation!!!!

After lunch and all that, all of us go back to plenary hall and sharing session about the exchange simulation is done. Amusing discovery and experience of simulation was done especially one Finland group where one of their major entertainment is swinging fireballs (reference to Janne performance in GV) and they travel by riding penguin. (This is way random ROFLMAO). After that hilarious session, it comes to a more serious event:LCP mock election. At this time, all the candidates are required to be separated from all us for them to their final preparation of presentation and allocating them into respective hall. After that, we also went into respective hall according to our group as an audience on how the LCP present themselves. All the LCP candidates takes turn to present their manifesto and vision and they have answer one question from our host(which is David, of BaaBaaKiwiland aka NZ). Some of them are really presented well while others are...let just say up to standard of being LCP. All of them will be rated by the senior member present and one LCP will be chosen from each hall. Btw, USM have two candidates, Vance and Zahirah. Just to be honest, I totally did not expect both of them to compete and hence I have my own fairshare of doubt on both them. But anyway...

When the candidate of each hall is done with presentation, all of us are back to the main plenary hall while the senior are making their final decision. After a short moment, the candidates are called to the front, hall by hall...and the winner of each hall will be revealed when they were doused of water by the faci's. And here comes the suspense...
Zahirah in action...
...and Zahirah as our LCP!!!!! and my groupmate, Conrad are in there as well!!! Gratz to both of them!!!!!

One group by one group, the LCP is announced. Vance didn't make it and now the chance for a USM-ers to emerge as an LCP are thinning...when its Zahirah's group of candidate turn(which is the last group), the stakes run high. With the music blaring of the speaker and water bottles hold by faci was circling around their head finding the LCP to pour on, everyone of us is getting nervous...when the water lands on Zahirah, all of us are in awe. WE HAVE AN USM-ER LCP!!!! All of LCUSM was cheering crazy loud including me screaming:"ZZZAAAAAHHHHHIIIIIRRAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!" up to the point that I think my vocal chord on the brink of explosion LOL. One final really, REALLY LOUD cheer and thats the end of the LCP mock election...After that all of us group hug Zahirah and grats her for hardwork. Nadia and Ruby gave her are really positive evaluation and Nadia even filmed down her LCP manifesto speech!!! I will go an add the Youtube link for it soon!!!! *now added!!!*

With all the buzzes of success is done, now is yet another Party!!!! Todays theme: Mad hat and...Party!!!! As the name goes, we need to wear a hat and add one other stuff according to your imagination for this party. One problem, I don't have a hat!!!! At first I was really planning to wear an imaginary hat(its still a hat!!!) but then when I saw my Accenture pamphlet, idea strikes: how about Accenture hat? Cut edges on the pamphlet, tape it around the back of my head to hold it up and voila! An Accenture hat!!! Nice colours as well and it looks like a crown! So here I am, wearing Accenture hat and batik, I call myself Accenture Hat and Datuk!!!! I manage to attract Schvonne's attention when she was mc-in in front. That party itself we notice the humans creativity in their hat: the crazy fun loving Malay lady from UPM wears are really flamboyant floral theme hat, two from UUM wear shower caps and facial mask(which is suspect is from the L'Oreal freebies that we got in DLD.LOL) and Mickey Mouse hat made its appearance as well. As for LCUSM,we have cowboy hat(Vance, ShinYen), maid hat(Rachel), Santa Hat(YeanMeai and YeeMun, who wears a cute skirt as well), Umbrella(Ekun's ella, ella, ella , eh eh!!) bandana(Pirate HuaKhee) and others more. After much laughing and fun with hats, its time to...SQUAREDANCE!!!!!
Posing and showing off the best of LCUSM!!!!Photos with the Taiwanese delegates, in the middle.Squaredancing!!!! See me over there? We were dancing GreenLight. And we did Cha-Cha(crazy funloving Malay girl dance shake like crazy with me as well), Sexbomb(at last, the most popular song of LCUSM) and I believe(official LCUSM song).

After that, Alan announced that there will be skulling competition held at the Postgraduate building(that futuristic building) and all of us go there to see the skulling competition. All LC must send team each to compete in the skulling competition. Skulling competition is basically group drinking competition, where the group of four must finish drinking the odd concoction of liquid, one person at a time after one finishes and the group the finishes the fastest will be the winner. "Thumbs on the table...chins on the table...eyes on the glasses...SKULL!!! iki iki iki, aye aye aye!!!" and the competing groups starts drinking down the old concoction one by one!!! Unfortunately and fortunately for us, USM was out on the first round BUT we don't need to suffer drinking the odd liquid again but we can enjoy our time eating our French Fries(btw Isac went out to to McD cos he drive car here so we were all busy eating fries LOL). Then crazy camwhoring ensues...
LOL the crazyness!!!! And Isac is down there feeding French Fries to PeiYue LOL.LOL crazy men of LCUSM...who wants my kiss? *puckered lip*LCUSM men are BIG and STRONG!!!!
...the snowy fluffy thing on top of YeeMun's Santa hat is too noticeable to be neglected so I eat them. LOL

After all the zanyness and stuff, its the end of day four and we need to go back to sleep...And on the way back, USM was seperated into two groups with the first group(including me) rushing like crazy to catch the first bus back. After a reflection session with Stefan, we all go and get our well deserved sleep...

-THE END-

What!!!! This is the end of Day4!? oh no!! One more day and it will be the end of NLDS!! NOOOOO!!!! I don't want NLDS to end!!!! One more day coming up and the episode finale of NLDS!!!!

3rd day of NLDS: Back in Action!

Finally I can continue my NLDS post, now in the 3rd day!!!! LOL Serena and Rubi was complaining about the lack of update in my bog.

Health status by the 3rd day: after one whole day of resting, now I am alive and kicking and ready for more action!!!! The days start off of course with morning plenary again, typical stuff and roll-calling occurs. But the main event for today is definitely the external session with invited organization and guess to give a talk mostly regarding issues. Then later in the evening is the Developing Leaders Day coordinated by L'Oreal. Whats the relationship between a cosmetic company and AIESEC. I will talk about it later...

External sessions:
Before the day starts, we were told to divide ourself properly into smaller group according to the external session available because we can only attend one and only one group. This is to ensure there is no clumping of many members within one group only and then we can share our experience about all the external session hence maximizing input of knowledge. Who's invited to give a talk in the external session? Lets see: General Electric, UNHCR, ARROWS etc.(6 or 7 externals I think can't recall all). The one that I attended is Pink Triangle Foundation, a concern group that involves with high risk group of HIV/AIDS, namely drug users, homosexuals and transsexuals and tackling the issues on the community level on risk management.

The first external session though is a common one for all of us in the plenary hall which is conducted by a lecturer in UPM(forgot whats her name) about environmental issues and impact.. Its a good lecture except my sleepiness almost give out on me. After that all of us break up into multiple group according to our faci's and externals. We went to the Post-Graduate Building (that futuristic looking building) and into respective groups. In my group other than me, ShuLi, Jessica, PeiYue and Christopher were also in the same group with me. Then the externals from Pink Triangle Foundation(aiks I forgot whats his name again) basically explains the history(Pink Triangle is chosen as a representative of GLBT communities as a remembrance of atrocities of Nazi Germany against GLBT by labelling them using Pink Triangle and then exterminate them in the name of "cleansing"), their community level involvement in tackling the risk of HIV/AIDS.(distribution of clean syringes and establishing centres to aid the drug users, distributing condoms and also centres for GLBT communities) From this session as well I discovers the main difference and misconception between Transgender, Transvestite and Transsexual. (Transvestite is basically of anyone which find excitement and pleasure through crossdressing, regardless of their sexual orientation, Transsexual is equal to the expression of "Adam in the body of Eve" or vice versa, Transgender is basically a person that switch their gender through surgery). Too bad my sleepiness almost gives up on me as well this time until he wanna teach us how to wear condom properly, with a DILDO!!! THIS ONE WAKES ME UP LOL. He give us a really nice packaged condom and lube pack and also a red packet (angpau) where insides contain contacts of the PT Foundation. LOL I still keep in around...you know just in case...hehe

After that of course is lunch time. (same food again) We need to regroup ourselves into groups that is formed on the first day so back to Hunky Hottie Hippie for me! Yay! A few of the groupmate have to go back earlier due to inevitable reasons (bye bye) but at the same time new people that I didn't see before came in. He is Victor of TBS and he is an alumni. WOOHOO we got veteran here!!!! After that is basically the opening of DLD and a small introduction of all the L'Oreal brand manager that we will get attached with for DLD. For my group will be Miss Elena of Garnier. And of we go to the futuristic spaceship aka Post Graduate building to continue our DLD. So after reshuffling and distribution of group members, we head off to our task: we need to come out with a proposal of project which involves and issue that need to be raise among the youth in connection with the major cause of Garnier. And we are given only 20 minutes to do so. Aiks!!! So off we go to do a quick planning!!! The issues that we tackles is global warming and the way of promoting the cause is through campus party to reach our target group which is youth. We even think out of a slogan: Save the earth, Its HOT. (Pun, one is about how exciting our party its (HOT) another is about the global warming and the rising temperature. (also HOT LOL). Anyway, everyone group is all out presenting their proposal to convince Miss Elena and subsequently enters the final to compete with other groups. And you know what happen in the end? My group won the prelim!!! Woot!!! But as soon as we are done, we need to go back to the main plenary hall to the final, competing not just the other group but also the seniors in MNC as well!!! The stake is even higher with RM250 worth of L'Oreal product as the main prize!!! After retweaking some part of it to make it more presentable, we went down and present everything. In the end we did not won any prizes(the 1st(Fadli LCPUTM and Adel is in this group) and 3rd was won by the seniors while the 2nd is by juniors...which is Jessica and Belinda's group ). Overall it was a great experience even though we din won anything and we got the chance to meet really successful people in L'Oreal. Thats what makes it worth it.

After all the buzz of DLD, now its time for Global Village!!!!! The real highlight of the day where each LC has to showcase their culture in the form of performance!! Every LC is literally in full speed doin preparation and such for the event. Some of the performance are really elaborate and in the form of sketch+documentaries. UKM for example has the really elaborate sketch about a greek romance epic, UUM is DaeJongGeum and Korean dance LOL, UPM is USA which has misplacement of location(Hawaiian princess in wild west? LOL), UTM of New Zealand Haka and the romance of Captain Cook, and UM of Ninja and hime-sama tachi. USM however was relatively simple while slideshow of Spain ending with Flamenco. Even though slight technical difficulties slows us down, overal we did pull of a presentable performance and the rest is history. One downside though, we did to BUY our own dinner and it was super expensive!!!!! issh!!! Money making scheme kot! Ok I should stop writing now in case all of you fell asleep and let the pictures do the talking!!!!!Korean dance by UUM. The middle girl which wear a pink Hanbok is Charmaine, one of the Hunky Hottie Hippies!!!! woohoo!!!
USM ala Espanola. Don't worry ShuLi and Kelvin, we still love both of you even though a little mishap happen on stage...Amigos y Amigas. The girls(L to R): Jessica, ShinYen, Sharene, Zahirah, ShuLi. The guys:(from L to R)Terence, Christopher, Vance and Kelvin.Posing and showing sexiness....and more posing and showing sexiness...Our dance coordinator, Rachel!!! Thanks for the teaching despite leg injuries!!!Now its my turn to join into the picture!!! Sharene:Isac Ho come in!!!! LOLAnd now we are complete!!!! Me and Datin Ho Pei Yue in the middle, Mr. Isac Ho and Mrs YeeMun from China and....Hua Khee.Masih posing!!!!Datuk Liew menganugerahkan Panadol Actifast kepada Cik Sharene untuk usaha dan kegigihan dalam persembahan. And, Sakina is my another Datin. LOLOLOL

-THE END- more of NLDS post coming soon!!!! Two more days to go!!!!!

ps: For those who have been faithful to my blog(which is almost none LOL), I did write about the fateful event that occur before the performance of GV in a few post back. We still miss Peter but I think all of us know how Peter is as a person and I think he want us to do our best in the GV. In fact, I think he is watching live broadcast from up there!!! Peter, I hope you still ROXX even up there!!! Go join AIESEC Cloud9 with all the true veterans there!!!!!

2nd day of NLDS *sigh*

The main reason for this *sigh* definitely because of my headache that I have since the start of NLDS. And today, the condition reach up to a point that I have to stay back in the hostel for the whole day and missing whole lot of event!!! Here's the full story...

The 2nd day of NLDS starts off with phototaking session of each LC and also the full NLDS/MNC delegates. The venue for phototaking session is at the arena of Perdanasiswa, the student culture and activities centre. Btw, Perdanasiswa is not just a building, its a COMPLEX of interconnecting building and form the epicentre of student activities, like club/organization rooms, student council office and and performance hall. USM, however have pitiful cubicle for clubs *sigh*.

The day was quite gloomy as well with rain soon after all of us are there. We are provided with breakfast which is bun with cream, arguably the best breakfast that I have here in NLDS. (Nasi lemak for breakfast?! I don't want diarrhea early in the morning!!!) Even though a few of my friend complained that the chocolate and pandan cream looked and tasted fake...LOL Who cares as long as we can eat!!!

Unfortunately before the whole thing starts, my nose starts to bleed as i rubbed my nose. *gasp* I was looking for tissue and Ching, Rubi and BeeChin not to mention the OC's(with tissue soak in Dettol) come to my aid. Ching as an first aider told me to look down while pinching the soft part of my nose(this is the correct method for nosebleeding) and at the same time correcting other passerby who concerns to hold my head up(common misconception). LOL I guess first aider knows best lar!!! Then BeeChin issued an ultimatum for me: go back and rest! You are officially out of todays event(somewhere similar to this line). And its accurate that I really need a rest...so later I was arranged to take the OC's(Jasmine the OCP) car back to hostel...The rest of delegates of course, walk in the rain to the plenary hall which is not very far....
LCUSM...BUT wait! where am I? I am at the back tending to my nosebleed *WTH* This is before the real thing starts I think...

BTW, Charina, who suffer from leg injury also take the same car as me except she still need to go to MNC while I need to go back. And you know what happen when Jasmine arrived with her Kenari? Zhong Jie and Adel are in the car as well and another OC(forgot his name) need to bring the whole pie of leftover bun back to the OC room near the plenary hall!!! LOL packed like sardine!!! After dropping all the other people at the plenary hall, its my turn to go back to my hostel.(I do grab a few leftover bun as food before i go back...) Once i reached the hostel, i head straight to bed after taking Paracetamols...and I fell asleep for dunno how many hours...

I woke up in 4pm in the evening just when Vance is also back due to illness as well. Too bad for both of us that we need to suffer headaches and miss the event...then i went back to sleep again...

Woke up again in 7pm and now I am really hungry. I was searching for highs and lows around the hostel to find any food source to no avail because the hostel cafe is closed!!! As I was growing more and more desperate, I received as call of salvation: Zahirah. Apparently she is around the hostel as well and she wants to go for tonight's party at Plenary hall. She asked me whether I need a ride there as well since her parent gonna picks her up from the hostel. With fear of starvation in mind, I quickly accepted the suggestion and rushed back to bathe and change.(by this time my headache subsided.) Unfortunately for Vance though, he is still quite ill for tonights party so he stays back. I was running a little bit late to catch Zahirah's ride(sorry uncle) and I have to squeeze a little bit because Zahirah's sister, Sakina and younger bros are there as well.

We reached there before everything starts. First things that I searched for: FOOD!!! But same vege's and meat again.(and the same menu for the next few day except rotation between lunch and dinner) Only after satisfying my hunger I start to look around admiring other people schools uniform.(BTW our theme for tonights party is Back to school Party, where we need to wear our uniform). I was wondering why West Malaysian school uniform got so many varieties?! Red(skirt), green(skirt) white(pant), you name it!! And also most of them have nice school badges that is pinned while what I have back in school are the one that I sewed on *sigh* But the uniform that YeanMeay wears really catches my eye...pleated skirt!!!!! While what i wear is my typical formal wear even though I can pretend that I am prefect sans blazer, ties and badge. LOL some other even greet me as Teachers and Principal LOL. But there's one delegates that rocks even more: she wears her PRIMARY SCHOOL UNIFORM. WOOT Everyone is cheering for her daring choice!!! She totally grab the attention!!!(she fits the PRIMARY school uniform quite well due to small statures of her)
Cam whoring before the whole party starts!!! We are playing truants and Mr Kelvin Diong are here to catch us for truant...but he joined us in the end to party LOL.

Soon, we entered the plenary hall when it is announced that Digi is gonna host the Back to School party and we are given lecture notes(aka flyers). Obviously this is a promotional stunts but they do have quizzes and lucky draw to give away freebies. But the best prize of all in the lucky draw is a free handphone...some lucky girl in UM got it *dang*. Since there are many people that use other Telcos service(well I am a Hotlink user of Maxis), some people from behind are cheering Maxis is hot-to-go and followed by Celcom when the Digi's yellow army leaves the hall. Consequently, we got ourselves a short free lecture from Sandy, our MCP because cheering for other Telcos while Digi who was invited to start the party are quite disrespectful toward them. But as soon as she is done, she announced lets get the party started!!!!! Squaredance, Squaredance and more Squaredance for hours!!!! But obviously before that, photos for the whole delegates in school uniform!!!! BTW, I also locate one Thomian as well, Clara Yeo which is in LCUKM.Competition between different school alumnis(with ChungLing people lead by HuaKhee, SoonKhen, and ZhongJie being the loudest) and uni (counter from the whole LCUUM which sing their uni anthem, Ilmu, Budi dan Bakti) occur as well. The exchange was way amusing!!!! When all the commotion is done, Squaredance, Squaredance and more Squaredance for hours!!!!The grand class photo of NLDS 2007!!! LOL I am so small inside!!
Look at everyone is school uniform. The girls nearest to the camera is Jessica, fellow GreenRoad of Kuching!!!
Squaredance....
...and more squaredance. Notice the Malay lady there? She is one of the craziest and most outgoing delegates ever!!!!(I think she is from UPM) We even shake our ass before in Cha-cha!!!

I enjoyed this party thoroughly and finally my emotion is not crappy anymore. I also realized pain are merely in our mind so we can make ourselves busy and doing other stuff to distract myself from the pain.

But there are something regrettable for me that fall sick. I miss a valuable session of teambuilding of my group(the challenge for today is building a tower) which effect my dynamic with my group when I am back in action. Besides that, I totally missed the great oppurtunity in skill building session which will definitely helped in shaping values in me. In other words, my NLDS experience are incomplete due to my sickness...really a pitiful event...

But since the headache is finally over, I am in full energy and excited to back in action the next day!!!! More Updates soon...day 3 is coming!!!!!

Hah? Semi filler post again?! Registration day!!!!

This is yet another filler post before continuing my full NLDS report...after all, my registration day(which is today) is also a blog-able material so here I am blogging about tidbits about my university life!! Here goes...

It all started with a typical Saturday routine in USM: brushed teeth, breakfast and online (LOL). Even though the advent of a gone plug due to notice board still pains me, in the end i still can't resist onlining at cafe...plus i need to wait the hostel admins office to open for me to officially registered into Tekun as well so might as well kill some time before getting the key. As soon as my batteries runs out again, I have to move to the other side of the cafe to get the plug...which is way far from the modem where the signal is the strongest *sigh* Hence crappy onlining experience...then almost at 9pm sharp, I went up to the admins office to get my key by filling in the hostel inhabitant card and getting the key. After that, back to my room to tidy up and prepare for the real event of the day: registration of 2nd semesters course!!!

We need to go to respective academic advisor to get the result slip and also form to register for the next semester. As soon as I reach Dr. Aniswal's office to get my result slip, a line is already formed in front of her office. A few of my coursemate are there as well either to get the result slip or to get her signature for registration of the courses. Once I reach the door I saw notice of her meeting time but whats more eyecatching is the ps: no appointment by email...so the mail that I send is wasted lar I guess....so back in line for me!!! After half an hour of wait, its my turn to get my result skip plus registration form. Not much comment from her besides keep up for the good work.(btw I am eligible for Dean's list WOOHOO!!!!!)

After that I go to Pusat Bahasa(tumpanging XiangYi's bro's car) to get the time for the language courses. One shocking things that really mess up my plan is that we can't take LHP courses which includes my core subject, English for Translation/Interpretation before finishing LSP401, General English. So I left with 16 unit which is 2 units behind my intended numbers of unit, 18. Since I have no interest in any Ko-k, I have to register an language option to cover the Ko-K unit. And so I make my quick decision to take up Spanish. Again we need to venture to lecturers office to get the registration paper and get their signature from them...and I have the feeling in my gut that the Spanish lecturer that we gonna have will be kinda bitchy, judging from her altitude of speaking...nah don't care as long as I get registered!! And one other thing that shocks me is the crashing of HPW102, Pemikiran Kritis with one of my Japanese minor class on Wednesday...and even if i change to group one is still the same cos the Wednesday time slot fot both group are the same. *sigh* Even though later Shean Thye assured me that Pemikiran Kritis are skippable but still it is better if no class crashes at all...ahh no time to loose, back to Dr. Aniswal's office!!!!!

By the time i reach Dr. Aniswal's office, the line is pretty much dissipates and I get my signature with relative ease. Now, I have to go and register my courses in my school which is luckily nearby. As soon as I reach there, there is empty slot of computer to register so the registration is done pretty quickly. Since it is almost lunch time, I reach there pretty much like 10 plus minutes before they take a break for lunch so lucky me!! SanJing and HueyLan however was a little unlucky cos they reach there right after the door closes...LOL they only knew it after me and Shirley came out to tell both of them. So, I join SanJing and HueyLan to lunch at Beanbean cafe which is right outside Sg Dua gate. All 3 of us ordered mushroom chicken rice which oddly, does not have many mushroom. (two pitifully tiny mushroom for me) Btw, this cafe is really a homely business as shown with two cheerful kid who help their mom to serve the full...in pajamas LOL.

After lunch, I bid myself farewell to Sanjing and HueyLan as they went back to our school to finish up the registration and me dropping by Dk foyer to online.(and btw, I am bringing my laptop bag along for the whole day...feels like I will accidentally knock someone if i am not paying enough attention...) A few hours and then I walk back to Tekun...pretty much end of story...

So what subject that I registered this sem? Here comes the list!!!!
LLJ200- Intermediate Japanese
-continuation of my minor...lets get it on!!! Now I am only worried that I am in another group which i might not familiar with since most of my coursemate are in group one while I am in group two...

LSP401-General English
-core English unit that i must take before can advance further in English.

LAE100- Spanish level one
-Hmm...hope can cope this...and in another unfamiliar group some more...

HBT105- Translation Techniques and Methods
-Core subject. A must to pass!!!!

CMM111-IT: concept and techniques
-i really hope it is not the Excel, Word thing kind of crap...its gonna be a challenge for me since I don't know most of the features in Microsoft offices(but then again, how many do understand anyway?)

SHE101- Ethnic Relation
-Yet another crappy skippable subject...but this one have assignment and project as well so I better be careful on this one..

HPW102-Critical thinking
-Also another crap compulsory subject...and also yet another skippable course...but I hope I can understand the mind boggling question that it might ask...anyone will be totally puzzled with the text book...for example: Man can travel back in time: Truth or false? LOL

NLDS post to be continue...soon I hope...
