(Photo by NAC, edited by City Book Room) Chinese Intellectual Writer in Singapore: Yeng Pway Ngon’s Lifelong Pursuit in Literature Yeng Pway Ngon was born in 26th January,1947 and passed on at 10th January, 2021, is one of the exceptional Chinese Writers in Singapore to treat literary writing as a professional career throughout his life. In the years as a young artist, he was influenced by the western Modernist trend prevailed in the twentieth-century and Modernism in Taiwan’s Literature which evoked after the post-war. He wrote modern poetry which full of connotation and short stories with the use of technique by stream-of-consciousness, and commented on Singapore social system, culture, art, political current affairs and other issues with essays such as “Mr An’s World”( 安先生的世界,1974)and column “The World of Da Shan”(大山的世界,1979).
