So my last post was on Saturday, July 30th, which is over 5 months ago! Those 5 months have been a whirlwind, so here is the really short version!!! (I planned on making my comeback with a much more detailed accounting, however, I really wanted to get to the Katy story at the end of this post!)
On August 2, I interviewed for a teaching position. I had already written off going back to teaching this year, but couldn't refuse the interview. However, I let them know in the interview that I had to know by the following day or I would not be able to accept the job as we had to make decisions as to where Katy was going to go to school. They assured me that they would make their decision before then and that they would need an answer immediately. Fifteen minutes after I arrived home, the phone rang and I was offered the job! The craziness has not stopped since that exact moment!
Part of the reason I haven't blogged in a long time is because I am not allowed to share many of the things that happen in my day anymore. However, I can say that this has been an eye opening experience. I am teaching kindergarten at a school with over a 75% free or reduced lunch rate and a 25% homeless rate. Many of the things that I have seen, I imagined only happening in very poor inner city schools. However, they are happening 20 minutes from my front door.
The other reason is I am not at home all day enjoying Katy's antics anymore : (
However, tonight she really made me laugh and so I had to share!!!
A few days ago, she let me know that she had a crush on a boy in her class. She wondered if she should tell him. I did my best to discourage kindergarten romance. However, tonight she was very excited to tell me what happened at school today.
Katy: Joseph told me he has a crush on me today because my hair smells like peaches!
Me: Really! How did that conversation come about? Did you tell him you had a crush on him first?
Katy: Yea! I told him that I had a crush on someone. He then asked me who. I said I will give you a hint, it starts like J-O-. But he didn't get it, so I whispered in his ear "Joseph!" He was like, "Oh my gosh!" Then he told me that he had a crush on me to. He almost didn't tell me because he was embarassed. I asked him why he liked me and he said because my hair smells like peaches! I am going to start using my hairspray as perfume! (I only wish I had a picture of her lovestruck little face when she finished telling the story!!!
Wonder if she will continue to be so BOLD when she gets older!
