Tarheel Born

Today there were 6 athletic events on campus and they had lots going on at Tar Heel Town. Ainsleigh had her face painted, ate cotton candy & a snow cone (an "ice cone", she calls it), bounced in the bouncy house, played golf, baseball, lacrosse, and practiced her football tackling. Afterwards, we watched the first half of the men's lacrosse game (UNC went on the beat Johns Hopkins in overtime). Austin gets full credit for perfect timing--the skies opened as we reached our car, so these were the only few dry hours of the past several days! And, as Austin said on the way home, if we move it's little events like this that will be on the list of things we miss.

We're going to Spain!

Austin & I are going to Spain in May...wait for it...by ourselves! Tracy hasn't had a night without kids since Ainsleigh was born 3.5 years ago, so that in itself is very exciting, and did I mention we're going to SPAIN!? We fly into Barcelona and out of Madrid, and should have enough time to do a little train-hopping in between. This is officially being labeled as Austin's graduation celebration. The kids will be staying with Reed & Kay (a thousand thank-yous), although we will need some help while they are at work M-F so we will need to find friends to have the kids over during the weekdays. Let us know a) if you want to watch kids for a day or two and b) if you have suggestions on what to do in Spain! [I think everyone knows this, but if not, Austin lived in and around Madrid for 2 years, and traveled to Barcelona with his parents afterwards, so we have a good start on things to do and see].

Park

We've had gorgeous weather lately, so we've been able to head to the playground when we get kicked out of the house for showings. Yesterday we went to the park with Ainsleigh's buddy Emma. It had been several weeks since we got together and it was so nice to watch them playing together again (plus Emma's mom is one of my favorite people). And Ripken liked tackling baby Mary, so everyone was happy (well, maybe not Mary, although she took it quite well). I love the picture of Ainsleigh & Emma, sitting on top of the tunnel eating their carrots! Ripken went on the swings for the first time about a week ago, but this was the first time I got a picture.

Preschool Performance

On Thursday Ainsleigh's preschool class had an open house performance of nursery rhymes and songs. We took some video on the new camera but have yet to successfully edit it so that it's short enough to upload to the blog. My laptop is having a hard time with the huge file size. We've put Reed to work on it, so hopefully we will be able to upload soon!

Snow x 2

We can't believe it, but Sunday night we got our second snow of the season. Ainsleigh even got to make a second snowman--unbelieveable for us here in NC! Tracy's Mom was in town helping us get the house ready, but we took a break Monday before our first showing on Tuesday. Ainsleigh also had a snowball fight with Grandpa, and made a huge letter "A" in the front yard.

Just Listed

We made it! As of yesterday, 2/28, our house was officially listed for sale. We've had the sign in the yard since Wednesday, which is still weird.

If you happen to know of anyone looking to buy a FANTASTIC house in the Triangle, please pass on our info!

Fortunately, we've had lots of help getting things ready. Many thanks to:

  • Grandpa: insane number of hours and expertise for all of our DIY projects in the last few months
  • Grandma: cleaning; watching the kids while we worked on projects
  • The Palmer Family: yard work--weeding, raking, mulching, weed whacking
  • The Snider Family: hauling brush, watching kids
  • The Davis Family: hauling brush, use of table saw

Unfortunately, the weather is awful (raining sideways and 35 degrees) so we've had no showings on our opening weekend. In fact, due to the volume of rain the back yard is more flooded than it's ever been, so that's not great if someone does happen to come. Here is the view out Ripken's window from around noon today...it's rained for 10 more hours since this picture was taken, so the standing water is getting bad out there! And now it's supposed to snow a few inches tonight, which will mean several more days before any showings. Sigh. In the meantime, we are working on keeping everything spotless, picked up, and ready to be shown every time we leave the house. This means Tracy & the kids were almost an hour late to church today :0 I'm sure a) we will get faster and b) we will lower our standards as time goes on. But man, it is SO clean and clutter-free right now! (Our cars, however, have LOTS of random things in them!)

We still have a few last things to do, which we couldn't finish on Friday because of the approaching rain:

  • Paint the exterior door to the shed.
  • Fix the mailbox
  • Steam clean the carpets
  • Power-wash the siding

None of these things are very noticeable (OK, the mailbox kinda is). The rest are more Tracy being a perfectionist. So I guess we have some time to get these things done given the weather. And, since in the Triangle the average number of days on the market is 100, we may have a LOT of days to get these things done!

The final list of everything we've done. We did all this in about 5 weeks!
