Torvald: So she really is gone. My little skylark has left me forever. What will everyone think of me now? [there is a knock at the front door] Oh! Nora you came back for me! [rushes to the door and is disappointed at the site] Dr. Rank, what are you doing here?
Dr. Rank: [in his outdoor clothes. Looks extremely pale] Torvald, is Nora here?
Torvald:[sadly] No. She has left. Why don't you come in Dr. Rank?
Dr. Rank: I'm afraid I can't Torvald. I have some business to attend to and all I wanted to do was to say goodbye.
Torvald: Rank. Nora left me.
Dr. Rank:[stops in his tracks] What happened?
Torvald: Nora said she needed to educate herself.
Dr. Rank: Don't worry Torvald. She just needs to work some things out then she will come back to you.
Torvald: You know what, you are right. Goodbye Dr. Rank.
Dr. Rank: Goodbye Torvald.
[three months past. Dr. Rank has past away. And Nora comes back]
Nora: Torvald. How are things?
Torvald: Good Nora, dear. What about you?
Nora: I'm well. I actually came back to take the children.
Torvald: [shocked] What?!
Nora: I realized I need my children. Please tell them to pack their things.
Torvald: [hesitently] Very well.
Nora: goodbye torvald. [ takes the children and leaves]
Torvald: Goodbye my dear Nora.

Alternate Ending
This is my ending of A Doll's House. I am only adding to the original ending.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Helmer: So, she is really gone. What will I do now? My reputation is at stake! [there is a knocking at the door] Who could that be? [opens the door. Nora walks in. She is still wearing her outdoor clothes.]
Nora: Torvald.
Helmer: Nora! You came back for me. [tries to hug her]
Nora [avoids his hug]: I only came back for some of my things, Torvald. Do not think for one minute that I came back for you. [walks past him. Heads to the room to the right]
Helmer [walks after her.]: What are you doing in my study?
Nora: Just grabbing what is left of my allowance, so I can start my new life without you. So just go to bed and I will see my self out.
Torvald [angrily]: You are staying here Nora! You will stay in this house even if I have to make you! You little scatterbrain, you wouldn't last a week without me taking care of you. And I will gladly take you back in to my home. Don't you see Nora. You need me!
Nora [walks out of the room on the right into the living room. Chairs are knocked over and the sofa was pushed to the right by an inch.] Torvald. I don't need you. I don't love anymore, so just let me leave you and the children. [tries to leave but Torvald grabs her wrist] Let me go!
Torvald: No! You are my wife and as so you will stay here! [strikes her across the face] You are not leaving me!
[the front door opens revealing Ms. Linde and Krogstad with some empty bags. Nora clutches her right cheek and starts to cry. Ms. Linde and Krogstad drop the bags immediately]
Ms. Linde [runs to Nora's aid]: Nora, darling! [Krogstad punches Torvald and the two begin to fight] Nils! Stop it! This will not help anyone.[Nora gets up and rushes to the room to the left] Nora! Where are you going?!
Nora [walks out with the maid and the children. the children are half asleep and in their nightgowns. the maid only has her nightgown and outside coat]: I refuse to leave my children with this [points to Torvald] monster. [leaves with the children and the maid]
Ms. Linde: Nils, we are leaving.[glares at Torvald] Goodnight Torvald. [leaves]
Krogstad [bloody and panting. Torvald is on the floor equally as bloody] Don't ever strike a woman like that ever again or else it won't just be your reputation that is ruined.[leaves]
Torvald: I messed up. Now I will never get my little doll back. However, this time she took everything from me. Now I am all alone [curls into a ball and starts to cry out Nora's name]
{End Scene}
My opinion Act 2
Wow! Act 2 had a lot more happening than Act 1. A one sided romance between Dr. Rank and Nora. I did not expect it. But Nora was going to ask him for money to pay off Krogstad. She was jauntily showing off silk stockings but when Dr. Rank said he loved her, she was like never mind. She was all for flirting with her husband's best friend. That was so intolerable. What if Helmer found out about her flirting with Dr.Rank? But then Krogstad comes in with a letter exposing Nora's secret. Now, Nora is doomed. However what happened next surprised me even more. "Mrs. Linde: There was a time when he would gladly have done anything for me.'' (Ibsen 202).
Mrs. Linde and Krogstad were a thing?! How is that even possible? Where would they have met? So Kristina left to talk to her old boyfriend, leaving Nora to distract Helmer with the tarantella. What does the the tarantella look like? Anyways, Nora says this to Torvald and sort of creeps me out a bit. ''Nora: Yes, terribly worried. Let me rehearse it now- there's still time before dinner. Sit down and play for me, Torvald dear; criticize me, and show me where I'm wrong, the way you always do." (Ibsen 203) I hate to unprofessional but is criticizing Nora Helmer's "turn on"? What do you think about that?
My Opinion on Act 1
Act 1 of the play certainly had a lot of stuff going. But the relationship between Nora and Helmer got my attention. Helmer treats Nora like a child; incapable of making her own decisions. Unless anyone else proposes anything different about this. Personally, I see Helmer as a man of good intent. He loves Nora and only wants whats best for her but he has a difficult way of showing it sincerely . I remember he called Nora many pet names like this, ''...my little squirrel..''(Ibsen). I suppose that's a way for him to show love to wife. Men back then had to be a strong figure in society. His advancement in the bank adds more to his reputation as well as his ego. Nora seems to be a child trying to act like woman. She can naive to a lot of things in society. Though she will do anything for her husband, she doesn't fully understand the consequences of her actions. She reminds me of the character Miss Armstrong from the book After Alice by Gregory Maguire. They both simply don't understand that for every action is a reaction. But Nora lies too much. She has the amortization to worry and her husband has no idea about it. Maybe she will change and grow throughout the play but I hardly see that happening anytime soon.
However, the way this entire scenario is playing out is quite interesting. A lying yet loyal wife, her egotistical husband, a corrupt lawyer, a dying doctor, and a widowed friend. Nora should have never went to Krogstad for help. She should have considered his past in her decision. And as Helmer points out,''A guilty man like that has to lie and has to wear a mask in the presence of those near and dear to him, even before his own wife and child. The children- that is the most terrible part of it all, Nora.'' (Ibsen). But who else could she had gone to? Was it worth it to really ask Krogstad for the money?
Bonjour, my name is Emilie Linzan. I'm currently 15 years. I like to read, listen to music, play video games, watch anime, draw, sing and write stories. I'm an only child :(.I have a dog, three birds and a turtle. The one thing I like about English class is how we somehow find a way to mess with Nick. (No offense Nick but its pretty funny when we mess with you)
Henrik Ibsen was born on March 20, 1828 in Skien, Norway. He was the oldest of five children. His parents were Knud and Marichen Ibsen. his father was a merchant and his mother painted, played the piano and usually went to the theater. at a young age he began to show signs of theatrical genius. When Ibsen was eight his family descended into poverty. They sold everything to pay off the debts and left to live in a small rural farm. At 15 he stopped school and went to find work. In 1849 he wrote his first play Catilina, which was highly inspired by his idol William Shakespeare. A year later he was offered a job to be the manager for the Norwegian theater in Bergen. In 1862 he and his family were forced to leave Norway and move to Italy after writing the play, Brand. He came back to Norway in 1891 being praised as a literary hero. In 1900 he suffered a stroke and could not write anymore. He died May 23,1906. Based off the title I think a doll's house is about a family who hide lots of secrets but act perfect when anyone else is around. I would think the theme is about imperfect families. But this is purely my own opinion about it.
