2008-2009 Newsletter/Post

Two years have flown by........
so fast that I wasn't able to get our card out to anyone last year...... which means we have some catching up to do!
(If there is something with a link attached then you can click on it to read more about it and see pictures.)

Corinne- (7) is in 2nd grade this year.  She  is one of the highest level readers in her class and also enjoys doing art and playing outside at recess.  She loves doing gymnastics, snow skiing and riding her bike, and is a great help to her parents with the rest of the family.  Corinne finally got her wish this year for her birthday and we added a pet cat to our family.

Lauren- (4) is in preschool and loves it!  She learned to ride a bike this summer and is completely fearless.  Lots of bandaids have come in handy.  She also loves to ski and a favorite thing is to go down the little half pipe at the local resort.  If she gets a hold of our computer paper she will draw page after page of pictures.  Her favorite birthday present this year was her very own scotch tape.

Torsten- (2) has added a new element of fun to our home.  He is all boy and we have been amazed at how much he loves cars, trains, motorcycles, dinosaurs, anything that bounces and of course.... his DAD!  In December of last year he broke his arm but it didn't slow him down one bit.

Our newest addition- Solomon Steell Johnson (aka. Saul) was born May 21st, 2009.  He has such a fun personality and can go instantly from full smile to pensive look with raised brow.  He loves to snuggle with his mommy and play peek a boo with his siblings.  His other favorite activities right now include crawling, eating paper and climbing the stairs when mommy isn't looking.  He is 7 months old now.

Lindsay-  I am still adjusting to life as a mother of four with three at home.  I am grateful for every moment I get with my children.  I also enjoy getting out and camping, hiking, biking and snow skiing.  Three months after Saul was born I participated in a little triathlon and had a great time.  I felt so lucky this summer to have both my mom and then my dad come to visit (when Saul came) and my sister Erin and her entire family come up to visit us too.  It was so fun to show them all the reasons we love Alaska.   Of course,  I also try to blog whenever I get a chance and love being able to connect with so many of you through the blogging world.  Please let me know if you are a blogger too and we would love to keep up with you.

Haakon- After serving almost 5 years as Bishop of our church congregation, he was released in Nov. 2008.  His new found free-time is filled with serving in the Scout program, playing hockey, skiing, fishing and playing with the family.  Haakon is grateful to work for Pfizer Pharmaceauticals and appreciated the 6 weeks of paid paternity leave we were given when Saul was born.
In 2008 our summer highlights were:
-a week-long trip to Glacier Bay, Alaska, without kids.We kayaked 65 miles of beautiful coastline and had some great adventures there.
-a backpacking trip with our children on a 14 mile round-trip adventure.  It was quite the achievement for us and we look forward to doing it again soon.
Our 2009 summer highlights were:
-a trip to Katchimak Bay staying in a Yurt with the family including 1 month old Saul.
-and a 10 day road trip in our motorhome taking us all over the great state of Alaska!
Other 2009 highlights:
We celebrated our 10 year anniversary, we purchased a new home and we sold our old home.

We have felt so blessed and know that all of the wonderful things in our lives come from the Lord.

We hope that you all have had a Merry Christmas and a we wish you a prosperous New Year!

Please keep in touch and remember to update our address in your books!

Oh Christmas Tree!

We cut down our Christmas tree right back behind our house. At first we thought it was too small but it ended up to be just perfect! We estimated it at about 14 feet tall. I had to lay it on it's side to get the lights on it.

The kids had a blast decorating it.

Of course everything ended up down low and we got a kick out of how many ornaments could end up on the same branch.

We love our Christmas tree! ( I didn't end up taking it down until the end of January because it started growing new branches.)

Anniversary Antics

For our 10th Anniversary we decided to hold off on doing anything big until we finish our house remodeling etc. (Trip to Paris or South America comes to mind..... someday.....) so we did the next best thing and went skate skiing. It was a beautiful day!
It was really fun and even though I try to go once a week and Haakon hardly ever goes..... he still wore me out! Whew!

Doing fun things like this is exactly what Haakon and I need in our marriage. It is the perfect therapy for us because these are the kinds of things that we did when we fell in love. We love going out and doing fun outdoor things. When we do them together, we are easily reminded of one of the big reasons why we love each other! We really have FUN together!

We have had an awesome adventure these last 10 years and I look forward to an eternity more with my amazing man! I love you Haakey!
