Allergy Testing

Yesterday we took Daniel to St. George to an allergy specialist.  He has been having very harsh allergies so far this summer.  His nose is always congested and running with lots of sneezing, and his eyes get super huge and swollen with lots of stuff in them all the time.  So we figured we could at least find out what he is allergic to and then try to keep him away from the stuff as best as we can.  We got there and the assistant was very nice, she has a little boy Daniel's age so she was really really great with him.  Luckily Daniel isn't a hard kid though, he likes going to new places and thinks everyone is his friend, so he didn't mind being there at all.  Plus they had some cool toys and that will keep Daniel happy no matter what he's doing.  They did an x-ray of Daniel's head to see how his sinuses were doing and he sat so well for that to, very still.  Turns out the left side of his sinuses are completely blocked off with infection and the doctor has prescribed him with a LOT of antibiotics and some steroids to try and get that unblocked as soon as possible, he is very concerned about the infection and allergies together causing Daniel to have asthma.  After that they had to poke the little guy with about 60 different pokes on his back.  Not fun at all and poor Daniel did such a good job at trying to be brave. It's hard to be brave though when someone keeps poking your back. After getting poked you have to wait for about 15 minutes to see what pokes welt up, whatever welts is a positive reaction meaning he's allergic to it.  Turns out he's allergic to a lot of stuff, the doctor walked in after 15 minutes and almost fell over in surprise, he was totally taken back by how many things Daniel had a reaction to.  They gave us some Flonaze for his nasal allergies and for everything else right now we just have to try and keep him away from all the stuff he is allergic to.  In a few more years when he is eight we can start getting him shots to try and get his body immune to the things he's allergic to but right now he is too young for that.  Daniel ended up being allergic to:

Whole Milk
Soybeans
Eggs
Cashews
Almonds
Shellfish
Tomatos
Strawberries
Raw Apples
Pears
Slight reaction to Corn but not bad
Cats
Dogs
Horses
Most trees
Most shrubs and bushes
Almost all grass especially Kentucky Blue grass
So that's pretty much the list of everything that we have found out that he is allergic to so far. There were a couple others but the doctor was pretty sure that they were just false positives, he said just to keep our eye out on him when he eats them. We have to take Daniel back in about a month to make sure that his sinuses has been totally cleared out though since that is the main concern right now.

Lost Identity

So today we are going to go and get Daniel a haircut again.  It's a little over due and his hair has gotten pretty long again.  Daniel is so good when we go and get it done, he sits very still for the girl while she does it and just talks and talks and talks.  Last time we got his hair cut though we cut it very very short because I didn't want to have to go back and get it cut again for awhile.  When he was all done and we got back home he started talking weird.  He started talking about how Daniel was gone and how he wasn't Daniel anymore.  I asked him were Daniel went and he kept telling me he didn't know just that he was gone and that he wasn't Daniel anymore.  So I asked him who he was and he would say that he didn't know. So we would ask what his name was and he would tell us that he didn't have a name.  It was like after his hair cut the poor kick lost his identity.  This lasted for a few weeks too, not just a day.  He was pretty certain that Daniel no longer existed and he was someone new, someone with no name.  It was so funny to watch him.  For the most part he without thinking he would still answer to Daniel but there were plenty of times where we would call for him and he would tell us that he isn't Daniel anymore.  So like I said we are going for another haircut today, hopefully when he is all done he doesn't lose his identity and become boy with no name again.

Happy 5 Year Anniversary

So since Shaun and I have been married, something has come up or happened every year on our anniversary to keep us from celebrating it.  For instance our first anniversary we just had Daniel and so we were busy trying to figure out how to be parents. The second one I'm not sure, I think Shaun just had to work. The third one I was super sick pregnant and the fourth one I was getting a hysterectomy, on the exact day.  So this year being our 5 year anniversary I decided that I wanted to do something awesome, that is was about time that we did something great to celebrate the two of us.  So I book us a room at the Anniversary Inn for Thursday the 23rd, then Friday we were going to spend the day just us roaming around Salt Lake, going to Temple Square, the Gateway mall and where ever else our heart desired.  Then Saturday we would take Daniel to the Hogle zoo and spend time with him.  Then head to Manti for the last night of the Pageant.  I had it all planned out perfectly,  the I started feeling a little under the weather on Monday.  Figuring I could just keep it at bay, I took a TON of Zicam and EmergenC.  It didn't work though, by Wednesday it had hit me hard and I have been so so sick since.  I finally went to the doctor yesterday and she named some kind of virus, I don't remember the name it was a big long word that only doctors know, and said that it is very contagious and just as bad as the flu.  So for this anniversary our wonderful 5 year anniversary I had to cancel my plans and Shaun and Daniel had to head to Manti on their own in hopes that I won't get either of them sick. I've decided that I'm anniversary cursed.  There can be no other explanation for it.  It's okay though we have both already decided that we are going to try and get away sometime in July and celebrate our anniversary a little later then we planned.  For now though, I'm sitting on the couch watching Alex Trebec host the National Geographic Bee surrounded by ear drops, eye drops, tissues, cotton balls, meds and Vicks.  Happy 5 year anniversary to me!

Birthday Party 4 Daniel

Today Daniel had his 4th birthday party and it was so much fun. So much work but lots of fun. I started off the day by making a whole bunch of SpiderMan cupcakes for the party, which took from when I woke up to when the party started pretty much. We had a couple of kiddy pools out and filled and a sprinkler going and lots of water guns and bubbles for the kids to play with. A lot of Daniel's little friends came and they all had so much fun running around and playing in the water together. Luckily we had it outside cause there was cupcakes all over the place but it was nice to see them enjoyed so much. This year Shaun and I decided to get Daniel as new bike for his birthday. His old one is a very very small one and he was getting too tall for it. He loved it so much he spent most of the rest of his party just on his own riding his bike around. After everyone left our friends Casey and Tori stayed after and BBQ with us and just sat around and chatted for awhile. It was for sure a long day for all of us, fun day, but very long day. For some reason Blogger hasn't been letting me post any pictures for a few weeks, so as soon as I can I'll be putting up pictures of the party.
